Course inspectors Paul Coupe and Rob Ashby inspect each cone location.

This is a very new location that has a fantastic sloped straight for slalom and a skatepark attached. Think mini Brands Hatch.

The Cyclopark centre on the A2 near Gravsend has very kindly allowed us to run a slalom race early in the year to run as a test-bed for events later on, once their pavilion is completed and a site operator has been selected. Because the site is so new, we are still waiting for the skatepark to be signed-off for use. Updates on this when we know more.

This means that we have the full circuit for use, which allows for quite a bit of freeriding/ LDP. The slopes are not as extreme as Hog Hill, so this is an ideal location if you are a newbie and want to run some tests, or hang out on closed roads. There are short slopes for sliding lite, but the place is too flat for DH.

This is really a great way to try out a bit of slalom on a gentle incline.
It is strangely addictive. PUMP ACTION!

Looks like an awesome location for a 100-cone course sometime!

Just the ONE hundred cones, Jonathan?

The bridge in the picture at the top can be seen in this aerial view, centre top third (LHS of circuit). We have enough track to make you dizzy.
Now, if only we could angle it a bit further...

Well, I meant for the unfit ones among us, Sam - not the lean, sinewy cycling types.

For those who dare, why not up the ante a bit? Virtually all slalom races are sprints. Even the longest slalom race I know of -- the Hood River, Oregon GS -- leaves you less winded than running a 400-meter race. Let's have a one- or two-mile slalom race with several hundred cones! And not all just this down-sloped kid stuff, either. Uphill, too - with teams of cone enforcers instead of cone judges. Hit a cone or take a foot off on the uphill section? Stun gun! "Slalom by ordeal," anyone?

Ordeal? We could just run the gauntlet uphill without a skateboard:

We already have that; it's called "proposing that six-wheelers be allowed."

Apparently this museum bridges the interest gap for boys from aged six to eleven:

If there were sites like this in the seventies, we'd've never got into skateboards.

Now Cyclopark are 99% certain that we'll have first usage of the skatepark. Very close indeed. Hoping to hear about the 1% on Friday 24th February.
