Oops
Oops! I told Cat the wrong result for Group A Tight. Fourth place was Brian Parsons, not Paul Graf. Paul lost to BP in the round of 8. My apologies to Brian (and Paul).

Just conversed with JBH on Facebook IMs. He was skating the full pipe at the Louisville skatepark and got way off balanced. Came down hard. Has a mild fracture of the ankle with a soft cast. Smashed his helmet in two places and was out for a while. (I guess a "mild" fracture means a small crack.)
EMS and an ambulance took him to U Of L hospital. He and Graf finally got out of there at 4:00 AM this morning. Got back to St. Louis and JBH is taking it easy. Said there is little pain and the soft cast is not that uncomfortable.
Graf said JBH was VERY repetitive. Kept saying things over he had already said but did not remember. I'm hoping that was last night and has faded. JBH quoted to me the great Chris Rock: "You were knocked the f#@k out!"

The event as described by JBH via Steve Pederson.
"My board almost completed the circle but I didn't. I "Wilsoned" (shot the board out by leaning back too far) as I started to ascend the wall of the pipe. Folded my left leg under me awkwardly and also smacked the back of my head. Paul called 911, paramedics came and took me to the ER at U. of Louisville Hospital. Diagnosis: Concussion, and broken bone on outside of left ankle.
Still have a bit of a headache (very mild), but ankle doesn't hurt much at all. Pain meds may be helping with that. I have a sort of two-part cast on the ankle that ends below the knee (thank goodness)."
Heal quick my friend and I'm glad it wasn't any worse than what it was.

Thanks, everyone. Today I will be calling doctors in St. Louis to make follow-up appointments. I'm lucky I wasn't injured worse. Even though I was park riding and not slaloming, I encourage everyone to look seriously at their safety equipment--especially their helmet--and make sure it is in good shape. When I look at the video of the fall--yes, Paul was filming that run--I am very glad I chose a helmet with "hard" foam. It may have made the difference between a "mild" concussion and something much more serious. I am very grateful to be alive right now.
