Car Rentals

Post by Claude Regnier » Thu Mar 19, 2009 12:23 am

Is it just me or are car rentals going up all over the place. It's incredible how much they've increased considering the economy.

Depends on where you are going into and when. I have seen rates as low as 55 total for Fri-Mon. PM me and give me your arrival loc/time and departure same. Also what size of car you'll accept. I'll have a look and can tell you what deals I find for you. I have a couple of cool spots for cheap cars. I'm sitting on an SUV right now at 90 total for Fri - Mon out of San Antonio.

CR - it's not the rates that are going up...it's the Canadian dollar vs. the US!! ;-)

Claude & Rick,

I've PM'd both you guys with the gory details. The rates in Austin are easily double what I have seen in San Antonio. That and the freakin city taxes are OUT OF SIGHT! The rental I found Claude was a full size at 164 for the 5 days (not bad, not great) and Austin tacked on 71 extra bucks in fees! Fugaaaawi!

Rick yours is a full for 59 bucks but they nail you at 32 bucks in extra yummies. I guess Austin felt we needed to do our fare share in paying for the new city center.
.
Just bend over this won't hurt a bit (us that is!)

Check both links I gave you 3-4 times a day, they dump cars all the time. You don't have to use a c card to reserve so there is no risk. Just be cool and XL your old reso when you make a new one.

Steve, the car I got out of Boston last year for Antrim was a mid-size at 12 whole bucks a day. I changed my reso about 7 times in 5 days with each one progressively lower. SCHWEEEET. And no I bring my own cigars, Macanudos this time and yes I get them at a deep discount.

Rick,

Hotwire has Mids for 76 total on thier website. BUT you have to pay up front.

Claude, if you guys have an hour or so on Friday, rent a car for Wed-Fri then book a weekend deal at the same place. All you have to do is drive back and re-sign the papers and you'll save maybe 75 or so bucks. Not bad cheese for an hour, hour and 1/2 tops.

Just a thought.

I'm not trying to be a smartass (for some of us it comes naturally,) but a little Photoshop is a wonderful thing. Thought I'd give everyone a better look at Woody taking on the course:

First of all WOW. That Was AWESOME FREAKIN. I am home and decompressing BIGTIME. Tomorrow I become an ICU Nurse again.

Thank You to www.ncdsa.com, www.silverfishlongboarding.com, www.bonelessone.com, www.slalomskateboarder.com

. Thank you to all of the competitors, Texas Outlaw Team Mates, friends, skaters wives, girlfriends, pets, sponsors who came to the Texas Cold Fusion Sizzler aka The Texas Sizzler.

As a kid. One day I stood outside our local cement skate park ready for a session.. The park was closed unexpectedly. The sign outside said No Trespassing. The bowls had been filled with dirt and later after it was dug up by the locals. It was the victim of a bulldozer. I swore this would not happen to our aspect of the sport.
This year was tough because I could not compete. I am on the injured reserve list awaiting back surgery and I could not sit for too long either. Sitting for a long period of time is tough on my back.

A huge thank you to one of our biggest sponsors and supporter of our contest Dan Gesmer. Dan leaves sun burnt, tired, but through all the wind, questions, and interesting skateboarding tales, the bro leaves smiling.

Marty Schaub thank you for helping out brother. You are a true legend in the skating world.
To the sponsors you guys are all ways there and I know I can count on you.
To the city of Austin, Texas our state Capital. Travis County. David Greere is who I work with every year. He presents our bid to the Travis County City Council. I bug him a lot Thank you David. Long live Texas.
The City of Marble Falls, yes we had a headwind, pump boys and girls pump.Thank you Robert Moss.

To Jordan Adler a Texas Outlaw a friend team mate and Owner of Wahoo’s Fish and Tacos. Thank you bro, Thank you hermano. For providing the great grub and beverages. Jordan Adler he will be running next year’s event. Good luck to you mi amigo. It just keeps getting better. I will all ways be part of the Texas Sizzler and lend a helping hand. That is a promise.

To my friends and Gumby, aka Mark Gosser and Zack Levitt for helping me out every year. Marcos OG Texas Outlaws with you this would not be possible.

To my guess course setters JBH, Claude and Keith/ COSS. Thank You

Paul Price and Claude for coaching my Team Mates. Gracias.

To MB, Michelle, Mama Mc Clarren. Thank You. All of you are beautiful ladies. And everyone else that helped out with the cone heading.

To the Down Hill racers who come out every year. Put on a great show and are truly STOKED. Your Bro’s RULE!!!!!!

To my Slalom brothers. As long as I am around. Slalom will exist in Texas. Long Live Our Sport.

Thank you to all from the Texas Outlaws. Muchisimas Gracias. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.

Yall come back now.

Yeah Rick, stay out of the Masters for a little while. I will have my hands full as it is with CBark, Pirnack, and all the other now aging, slowing, old, pros (you know, the couch crew from COSS) - LOL. If only..., sigh...

After seeing John Gilmour at the 2007 (I think it was 2007) US Open in Longmont for the first time in like 25 years he said something very kind to me when I was struggling to find my long lost abilities (I really thought I used to have some skill) and trying to learn new moves, equipment, etc.:

"Steve", he said "...the only difference between you and me is you stopped skating and I never did". I say this is kind because he could have just said I sucked. Those were easy words for John and made me feel okay about beeing so far behind... Thanks John.

Feel free to join us back in the Open/Am class brother...I'm waiting until I'm 50 (or the docs tell me to slow down) to go Masters. ;-)

BTW - I know I said this in Tejas, but I'm really impressed by your work with Peter M., he LISTENS to advice and applies what is said right away. So cool to see it, and the run to run improvements. Nice job Peter! And thanks to Jack and Skateboarder's Journal for giving us a place where someone like Peter can make contact and be put in touch with racers in his area!

Well, there's a lot more differences between you and JG but we won't go into them now on a well-moderated website where young children and the clergy have access.

+1 to that! If it weren't for Jack's site, Rick's helpfulness, and the kindness of area slalomers like Steve, I would never have been at the Sizzler. As it was, I had a fantastic time, learned a lot, and got to meet a bunch of you guys! I'm not sure how to describe how awesome it was to talk with everyone and get advice straight from the pros on how to improve. It kind of blows my mind that people who have been doing this for (decades?) were completely willing to come up to me and give me tips, encouragement and feedback on my last run. The advice was immeasurably valuable and I could feel myself getting faster on each trip through the cones.

So, to everyone who helped me, and to everyone who is now my friend on Facebook (if not yet, look me up! I'm in the Bethel IN network)... THANK YOU for everything. Keep an eye out for me at future races :)
I'm new here.
