Do YOU own and ride a 6-wheeled slalom skateboard?
This is NOT an argument for or against 6-wheelers!
If you read this and you DO ride and own a 6-wheeler, please respond. If you want to insult or exhult 6-wheelers, there are about two dozen places right now where that's appropriate. I'd just like to get a census of just how many slalomers are pursuing 6-wheeled slalom racing. So far, I've been able to identify EIGHT skaters who have their own 6-wheelers:
Ron "Fatboy" Barbagallo
Christ Chaput
Keith Hollien
Tim Kneitz
Marty Shaub
Jack Smith
Tom Thompson
Me (Even though I've never had the chance to race it)
Anyone else?

To quote Keith Hollien, "I have put away my training wheels." I no loger keep a six in the bag nor even set up for that matter. Four at all races this year. That shortens the list to six, how appropriate!

Donald.. While I love your products and am greatful for the advances of the high(er) tech components available now. Don't you find your statement a bit odd?? No foam,no precision machined billet trucks, no urethane wheels, no sealed bearings, no grip tape, no carbon, etc... etc.... That would be in accordance to your plea.
ENJOY!! (while you can)

What part of that confuses anyone?

Ron,
I posted this on SL.com and will repeat it here: these messages have been up for 24 hours. Hundreds of views. With the exception of Ramon saying he tried and didn't like it and Marty saying he and Hollien gave it up, the response is about nil.
Is all the hoopla, discussion and viterpitude over just three or four people who want to ride a 6-wheeled skateboard?

I've got a deck with three Indy 101's.
------
EDIT: Took off the front Indy. Now I have a widened Midtrack on there which is much smoother at speed.

I really feel that the outlawing of the six wheeler has cost me dozens of podium finishes!
well that and the fact that I totally suck at riding a skateboard.............

That's exactly what it is. I'll have to say I'm amazed at the results. I really expected 20 or 30 skaters to come here and say something along the lines of they've got one and skate one regularly. The response has been phenomenal to me in its scarcity.

set one up, tried it, thought it was fun, would never race it.

Here's the one I built and then quickly took apart. Never did feel quite right.

6-wheelers
I've got two boards, both lay-down (luges, but wooden, short @ 48" or less, non-competitive) that I've had for, um, well a quarter-century anyways, that are still ridden fairly regularly, and they ride like crap if using only 4 wheels. Slidey, wobbly, and just nervous overall. 6-wheels makes them ride right.
With stand-up boards, I've had two decks I've used intermittantly for bombing hills, neither is exceptional in any regard other than having a tad more traction due to the extra wheels.
The Bozi 36" I've got was drilled for a third rear truck last summer, but i didn't get it put together with 6 wheels until Autumn, due mostly to the demands of my machine-tooling schooling that summer. I got it back out this Spring, with Seismics at the rear, Avalons all the way around. I could run down some seriously steep hills with no worries about the back getting loose, nor any hint of wobbles. Pump as hard as you want, it'll hold. However, agility suffered, and 7 ft. cones aren't easily negotiated, unlike when it's a 4-wheel set-up, where it'll make 6 ft. cones. I'm not sold on running the extra wheels out back, but it's been fun messing around with it nonetheless. On something like Turri Road, it might get me down the hill faster, but so would a Slingblade with narrow Talons and Big-Zigs, not that I could afford That Ride.
I definately feel that RWYB is still the way it should be. If it isn't like that, then how will innovation prosper? If we don't innovate, then we'll be like the Kickflipper crowd, riding the newest Graphics, not the Best Ideas for Competing. Look at a kickflipper from 11 years ago. See any signifigant differences from one made this year? Now, look at a Slalom board from 3 years ago (yeah, like my Bozi!), and the Innovation is Clear. Sure, for 'fun' at races, my Turner is still able, but not truly competitive anymore. While that's dissapointing personally, it's natural if you're Racing in a sport that's not over-regulated.
I guess that's why I prefer Rally to StockCar racing...
