New to the area/new to the forum/new to slalom
GREETINGS ALL
Long-time (10+ year) longboarder from San Diego, just recently learned that you can "pump" your board to make it go faster with a sufficiently narrow wheel-base and sufficiently awesome hip action. I realize you guys take this to a new level, with cones and courses, and I'd very much like to meet up with some of you and test this thing out for myself.
A bit about me:
I'm an intern at a thinktank, and I live by Capitol Hill.

My "quiver" (standard carving fare):
Gravity Hyper-Carve
Loaded Pintail
Gravity Bruce Logan
I also used to have a flexdex which I didn't pump but I would, using the kicktail, spin it side to side to propel myself forward...
Oh by the way, I was referred here by Eric Wallgren. Very cool to see there are skaters (let alone slalom-folk!) in the area. Everyone acts like I'm carrying a gun when I bring my board with me out here!
I'll keep my eyes peeled on this forum post.
Stoked in advance,
Zach

DC SCENE
Zachary, we have a good slalom scene here that skates in Virginia and Maryland. DC has a few Downhillers that skate with us sometimes. If you want to come out to a slalom session just check back here in the DC Sessions thread. We post there for sessions. If you come to Virginia we will put you on a slalom board if you want to try it out.

Cool, Mike, thanks for the offer. I'm definitely down. When is the next meetup? For DC, the last one as far as I can tell was in late January. Perhaps I'm missing where you all post the Virginia/Maryland meetups. I'm down for whatever as long as the place is within a few miles of a metro stop. (If I had the equipment to "long-distance pump," then maybe I could go farther!)

VA Sessions
Zachary, you haven't missed anything locally. Weather definately plays a part of where and when. Now that we have had snow, alot of spots have been treated with sand and salt so we gotta wait. I know of a few parking garages that you can hit. Welcome to the East Coast!

Re: VA Sessions
Had my first "real" session of '07 this past Saturday. It's starting to feel like Spring and I'm stoked!!Mike Ohm wrote:Zachary, you haven't missed anything locally. Any chance of another DCOL reunion race this year? I had a blast last year!

100% of all DC slalom is announced, discussed and occassionaly dis'd (when I'm involved) RIGHT HERE. The DC/DC (DC Downhill Club) through one Anthony Smallwood are also pretty good about getting the word out through this online forum. John Dillon up in Maryland, Dave Riordan in DC and others make it a point to post here if any skate-related event, even non-slalom, gets publicized right here on the SS.com DC forum.Zachary Skaggs wrote:When is the next meetup? At one time the EVENTS forum on NCDSA.com was just about hijacked by DC outlaws communicating their race and travel plans. Since this website, though, came online in late 2002 and really took off in 2003, just about every racer associated with NoVa, Maryland and the mid Atlantic is registered here.
Ohm's a good guy and runs a good race. Just be sure to keep your posts REALLY SHORT or he won't bother to read 'em.

Capitol Hill slalom skateboarder
Hey Zach. I work on the Hill and I slalom. I start work at 11:00 am on M W F. I take the Marc train in to Union Station on those days and have some time to kill before work. Sometimes I go to the gym to kill the time. I'd be up for some skating on those mornings. I get out at 5 on T TH, with the time change I'd be up for some skating then too. Anyhow I'll bring my board tomorrow morning. I'll be on the Brunswick line train arriving at 8:30 am.

Yo Zach!
Your weapon of choice(skate) is often considered a real threat.....once when I was skating uphill past the southside of the Capitol, upon stooping down to pick up my skate and jumping onto the sidewalk, I was surprised as *!%# when I noticed 2 men in black in the bushes pointing m-16s at me. Welcome to DC & the forum. btw, how's Geezer-X doing? Geez??
