We got a bunch of freezing rain and, at my house, just a couple of inches of snow on top of that. The ice was so thick and heavy that it busted a lot of tree branches, power lines, etc. Several hundred thousand people in STL lost power (not me, thankfully), and some of them still won't have it restored for a couple of days.
I was kind of looking forward to seeing/hearing the predicted "thundersnow" (just what it sounds like, apparently), but we didn't get any.
On the plus side, skies were sunny yesterday and today, and the ice on the trees sparkled like diamonds in the early morning light. Spectacular.

For those of us who live in regular-snow country, the first drive on snow of the season is always a white knuckle experience. Hoping like the dickens that the other clowns have some sense of the laws of friction and physics. But for what ever reason the memories of last year are wiped clean, and so the people drive too fast, too close, and the body shops get filled up - eh CB?
After having lived in a rocky mountain ski town for 4 years, we got pretty casual about the whole deal. 6 months of weekly fresh snow provides plenty of practice. I've got loads more respect now, since that line between traction and breaking free is pretty darned sharp. Kinda like skating idn't it?
Clean and green (ok getting browner) here in the Twin Towns.

I've been in the auto repair/insurance biz going on 20 years now...i'd rather have 10" of snow over 1" of snow/freezing rain any day.....
I love skating outside in the middle of winter though.......it's soooooooooo quiet...
Snow on the sides of the road is fine.......the cold is fine, as long as the sun is out....
But it's been too windy to skate here for almost a week now..
I friggin hate the wind
just hate it

Jbh,the thunder snow was a trip.because of a jet stream blowing across the top of the storm,it would cuase a sudden lift in the storm coulds and create squall effects.we got a solid 8 inches in wilmette, but in wisconsin it was a solid foot.cfav

That, plus all your pretty sun-dresses were dirty, right? :-pMarcos Soulsby-Monroy wrote:I was cold enough in Houston today (39) that I had to put on pants when I walked my daughter to school.
Sorry, I'm a little bitter. Our HIGH temp today is supposed to be around 39.

It's OK Jonathan, I'm sure it will warm enough for your sun dress soon My daughter insisted on wearing a woolen hat and and gloves today. Just shows what you get used to. I really do miss the snow though, not in January when it is 20 below, but other times I really do. Texass only has two seasons HOT and Cold (and not very cold)Jonathan Harms Posted: 04 Dec 2006 06:50 Post subject:

Finally broke down and called the gas company last week to re-connect the Ghetto home/shop, BUT because of the snow they had to re-schedule -for later this week or early next week!
Well the temp this morning when I got up was 50°F, if the sun comes out it might get up to 55°F! If so I'll have to break out the shorts & sandals!
It's already up to 53!!!

We've been lucky- it's been super nice here. This weekend it finally got cold, but a sunny, nice cold you can skate in. Except... I'm having hardware issues... I'm going to break down and buy some sort of power drill. I see it happening.
Nice sand man.
JBH- Beeeee You tiful pictures! It does look chilly.

i wanna go fast
Nice shot of what looks like a Black Walnut tree atop that cliff! Not much accumulation here yet..Outta power from Fri to Sat ..50mph winds. On my a.m mile trek at 17 degrees this am. the bit of coffee that sloshed from swerving a tree limb created a brown icecicle in a matter of a minute or so..Hitting 20 mph made it shape coooooly!
ENJOY!! (while you can)

The snow was heavier south and east of Mad Towne. All we got in Sun Prairie was a few inches. My daughters live in Oshkosh and they only got maybe an inch. I was in Green Bay Saturday and Sunday and they didn't have hardly nuthin ... 'cept it was plenty c-c-c-old.
Gravity is a terrible thing to waste.

I woke up today to frost on the ground and I actually warmed up the car and scraped ice off my windshield. I know, I know it's tough down here in Texass. You think this is bad just wait until February, I guess that you will all have to come on down to Texass and slalom with us at the Sizzler.
Yep those southern slalom types have it hard!!!!!!

CB, the reason you hate the wind is because you forgot to wear a shirt.
Eddy, how you go that sand to mold into such nice round spheres I'll never know!
CFav: Are you Wilmette? I'm in Villa Park over the Xmas holiday. It's gonna be a power trip, but if the weather holds, skate on?
Nova: Thats the big diff between Chitown and Twintown. The weather down south might warm up. We might be lucky and hit freezing. Then we're skating without shirts, and Bara's invited.
And Marcos: I'm playing my sad violin song for you scraping your windshield. But as I always say, better to be cold, 'cause you can dress for it. If it's hot and you strip down, you're gonna spend time with the man.
Weathering it,
Fran

Bara.. Yeah buddy, It's me! Got the slightly deserved, ill expected, and highly un-ethical treatment of the long arm of the law. I'm hangin' tho bro' and skate daily, been talkin' to a few of the boyz and am thankful for the respect and concern!! P.M me and we'll chat if you want.
Damn...........It was cold again this a.m, 15 or so. Tomorrow's 'sposed to be warmer, followed by snow Thurs. Put me on your prayer list(s) All ye' carvin' christians.
