when some a%&%&&/hole car-driver hit s a rabbit and stops and looks at the rabbit and then goes back into his car, thinks a bit and then splits the scene,so he won't have any trouble?
just saw that and couldn't believe it,being a citizen and no country-boy(i know you might think about it differently)i walked back to check for the rabbit.it was still there his legs broken and his skin torn from his legs.
took the poor chap into my car to get it to the doctor for the final injection(yeah i couldn't break the neck of the animal).during the drive the rabbit died with some very quiet screams.
i looked at it and saw it fade away
damn
that was my day today...
behaving like a kid, weeping over a rabbits death.

We actually had to to the same thing with our cat. It had lost its tail and didn't look so nice anymore. I guess my mother's cousin, who then was in charge off the cat's fate, cut it's head of instead bringing it to the doctor.

About 2 years ago, my old cat got very sick. He was about 15 years old, didnt move much anymore and was really in tough shape. the only reason we hadnt put him to sleep already was because my two kids (3 and 5 yrs then) loved him and he loved their attention.
Anyway, it became obvious he was in pain, so I told the kids God would have to watch over him and make him better, they gave him a hug and my wife took them to nursery school.
I sat home with him wrapped in a towel waiting for the vetrenarian to open.
I was petting him when he made an odd sound and i looked at his eyes as the pupils got large and he died.
It was surreal. I'll never get that image out of my head.
it sucks

my cat is 20 now and a big part of my wilder days/youth.
i know it's gonna happen, maybe this fall/winter,this is gonna be very very hardcore for me.
that rabbit today really killed me,the screaming of a animal which never ever makes a sound until its final struggle comes really hit a nerve.
and i knew i couldn't help the animal anymore all the time
damn again

i own 2 old cats(19 and 16) and the thought of losing them is always with me. I have had these cats most of my life. Donald, I know how you feel, I hit a squrrel last year and was weepy watching this poor animal die, its hard to watch any living thing suffer, but a little easier to deal with when you dont have a multi decade connection. We ALL have soft spots for animals, after all, were animals too.

I could bet the a%&%&&/hole car-driver goes to church on sunday and pretends to be a good christian, well maybe. Happens all the time.
Too bad.
Thanks Don for reminding us to look after each other. Be it animal or human.
Thanks for caring for the rabbit. I am sure it was better to die in your car than on the road.
