Axles Size : what to choose? what to expect?

I got only short axles on my Radikal set, I suppose that the normal set-up I have is 88.9 MM wide (for the Dragons Claw) and my axles are 0.250 inch.

I used this truck in Stockholm on every races and I can't say it doesn't work well
but I'd like to try it with wider axles now.
I'll soon race in the French Alps for a Super Giant Slalom on one of this Alpine roads we love, but to increase stability I would probably need wide trucks

Which size choose and for which kind of slalom? (I won't so often race big super giant slalom, and don't want too long axle)

Do you have some hints about Radikal and wide axles?
The fact that Radikals are narrow, are one of the things that make them efficients: is it a good idea to use them as wide trucks?

What about bushings when you change axle? (harder bushings?)

Since it all depends on what kind of wheel you use it's hard to say. I mostly use ABEC11 Grippins and since they have a center set hub I never use the shortest (default) axels. That's of course unless it's suuuuper tight and you have to go for cambrias.

I think (since I'm not that used to measuring in inches) that I normally use 1/2 inch in the front and 3/8 on the rear truck on my TS board and probably 3/4" and 5/8's on my C81 and it works great. But the size of the axle is so dependant of what wheel you use.

It's true that wheels are important when talking about trucks width.
For slalom I ride 3DM wheels, usually Avalons, so the shorter axles are narrow but OK
(but on the rear truck I need to put at least two speed rings or the wheels are blocked by the hanger).

Hi Vinnnzzz

I have the same problem like you. The truck is too narrow. I put on my front truck 4-5 speedrings on each side now the truck is Ok for Tight slalom with avalons. (Truck is nearly 100mm).
I mostly like wider trucks so I ordered all axels to test. The last 2 months they could not deliever these because the titanium was out but next week I will get all axels and then I can hopefully use the second front truck too.

Vinz I think the Radikals are although very good for Giant but only if you got the wider axels. I think you need the 1" Axels...no front truck turns better than Radikal at the moment that is a fact.

if you have a stock "dragon claw" front truck, ( not a narrow one!!"

the following axles will give you the "between the bearings" hanger width within a mm

1/4"----------87mm
3/8"----------93mm
1/2"---------100mm
5/8"---------105mm
3/4"---------113mm
1"-----------125mm


Hope this helps, alternativeley if you don't like the wider width too much, put stiffer bushings in, after all that is the Radikal Way....which is what Keith would Probably do

Oukay, you're right too hm...my taste says that your truck needs to be so wide that it makes a radius big enough for hard offsets but narrow enought that you have a good fast straight line between the cones. Kind of a good balance...Do you understand what I mean?

Paul was pretty close on the front truck sizes(see below). We do normally have 6 axles sizes, but right now we have no axles at all. I hope we will have axles of all sizes by next week. We have plenty of trucks, but without any axles no trucks to sell. There is some good news though, the downhill trucks should be available by the Worlds(I hope). The axles should be done before that and more trucks are being made(hopefully we will not run out of product again).

The stock front truck with no axles is 3.0"(76mm).
The stock rear truck with no axles(with trailing swing arms) is 3.75"(95mm)

Axles sizes:
1/4"(.250) or (6.35mm)
3/8"(.375) or (9.5mm)
1/2"(.500) or (12.7mm)
5/8"(.625) or (15.85mm)
3/4"(.750) or (19mm)
1.0"(1.0) or (25.4mm)

So just do the math to see what you want to run or need.
