Hello Donald,

A deck was sent to you via US Mail just a few days after your post on the other site. Please resend your shipping address and I will ship you another via UPS. Also please include your weight so that I can send you the correct flex.

All the best,
Jack

The $1000 Challenge

Post by Jack Smith » Thu Jul 01, 2004 4:07 pm

Here is Donald's original post from the Bulldog Skates forum regarding the Bahne Black Hill:

´bahne is wasted money as i see it.
once you get a bit more experienced you'll find out by yourself that this is just a mass product with no real value when it comes to racing.my oppinion.

get your stuff from experts, experienced people who know what's up.

you want a deck with a memory. the bahne stuff swallows a lot of the impulse you give into the board without giving it back. arab knows what i'm talking about. it is as if you use a trampolin with no flex.you can bend it down, but it won't come up high and fast enough
ok?

I take particular offense to "get your stuff from experts, experienced people who know what's up". I guess over 30 years of slalom racing doesn't count for much with Donald.

As I mentioned in my response to Donald on the Bulldog Skates forum, the Bahne Black Hill was created to offer an inexpensive way for skaters to get involved in slalom. The deck is made of quality materials. It has never been presented as a "high performance" racing board.

I also mentioned to Donald that I have ridden a Bahne Black Hill to a few top ten finishes in some quite competitive events.

A Bahne Black Hill is on it's way to Donald at this very moment. This board is being sent to him free of charge for his evaluation. I am looking forward to his review.

To show my confidence in the Bahne Black Hill I make the following challenge to Donald...

A winner take all race. We choose a race that we will both be attending, and race head to head on the same course being used by the competitors.

I'll ride a Bahne Black Hill, Donald of course rides the board of his choice. The loser of the race donates $1,000 to the winner's favorite cause or charity.

As Mills Lane was known to say, "Let's get it on!"

I'm confused...

Donald, are you in Germany or Illinois???

I'd like to see the race go down, just cuz it is interesting.

i just read this

sorry but i'm located in germany
jack...you have all right in the world to be pissed.
that even honors you.
i would never race for money, but i'll pick up the glove,my friend.
i'll visit the us next spring and you can go and practice a bit till then.
the loser will state that he sucks bigtime here on the forum.
that's punishment enough.
in the meantime we can tease each other with results form the cyberslalom course.
did you ever do that,jack?
i would love to have a go with you on a tight and offset course with cones spaced between 5-6 foot.
i only have 28 years of experience to offer...does that make me a bad guy?

$1,000 Challenge

Post by Jack Smith » Thu Jul 01, 2004 8:30 pm

Donald,

I'm not pissed. I just thought your remarks about the Black Hill and Bahne in general were unfair.

The challenge still stands for the $1,000. Take it or leave it.

If you are so confident that you can "smoke my butt" as you stated in your private message, put your money where your mouth, or should I say keyboard is.

Next spring is fine.

I have no interest in teasing.

Yes I have run the cyber slalom course a few times. My last recorded time (8.97 sec) was in August of 2001.

I never made any mention of you being a bad guy, I just stated that it appeared you did not place any value on my (Bahne) experience as pertaining to slalom matters.

So Donald you don't race for money? So you don't compete? So you don't enter races? You don't skate? You make no sense at all. I ride for Bahne. I also take much offense to your comments that are unfounded. Put up or shut up! Have some balls. Shoot, you know Jack! He backs what he said, The question is can you? I doubt it!

adrian:can you read?
i doubt it,maybe you're also too stupid to scroll up and down on a page.
listen up:skating is about having fun,not about collecting money(or maybe trying to collect it).you sound very clever with all your dimwit comments.i'm only in it for 28 years,so i must be stupid, right?
you don't even know who you are talking to,show some intelligence.

know what?-leave your comments or thoughts off this discussion, i don't care if you skate for bahne or not.
i left my homes in the house,jack-make sure you do the same.

i accept your challenge-nothing else.
so if you want to go ahead and nail it on the money-that's your excuse then.
you decide.
since you're so keen to prove your point here, you better accept it.

so you're saying the first board got lost by usps-very strange indeed.

why didn't you speak out your thoughts on the initial thread on bulldog's message board?

i really wonder if you care about my opinion on the deck at all?

maybe you should just call ups and stop the delivery.

what can an idiot such as me who is only into keyboards add as a fruitful
comment regarding your gear?

Simmer Down Big Boy

Post by Jack Smith » Fri Jul 02, 2004 2:00 am

Dearest Donald,

Yes Adrian can read, he is also a very talented graphic artist. He is very passionate about slalom skateboarding and has as much fun as anyone I know when it comes to skateboarding. Adrian is nice fellow, I'm sure if you met him in person you two would get along fine. As I'm sure you and I would.

Donald, you also do not know who you are talking to. You know very little about me or my decks, yet you blast them online.

Did you mean to say "homies", I don't have "homies", I have friends.

You accept my challenge and nothing else? What else was there?
Yes, I want to stick to the original deal...$1,000 donated to the winner's favorite cause or charity. If you do beat me, I will pay on the spot with a smile and a handshake.

You find it strange that the USPS lost the first deck? I don't, frustrating yes, but not strange.

I did respond to your post on the Bulldog site, four days after your original post. Below is how I responded:

Hey Donald,

Jack Smith from Bahne here. I was a bit bummed to hear you call the Bahne Blackhill a waste of money. The board is designed as an entry level board, decent performance at a fair price. I have ridden the Black Hill to a few top ten finishes in the open class. I'm not exactly skinny, 190 or so. We make the deck in 6 and 7 ply. Have you ridden one? If not I would be happy to send you one at no charge. The Bahne Black Hill is the best selling slalom board in the world. My goal with it was to offer a board that people could get into the sport without spending a ton of dough.

Thanks for reading,
Jack

PS
I also recently won JPL on a Bahne Rocker cut into a slalom shape.

I do care about your opinion, if you don't care for the deck after you test it, that I can accept. Being an advanced rider, it probably isn't your cup of tea. The whole reason for this dust up were your comments about the Black Hill without giving it a fair shake and understanding who/what is was designed for.

The deck and a tee are on their way.

This is my last post on this subject until I read your review.

All the best,
Jack

Jack, I think everything you make sucks. Especially those Bahne Banshees. Those really are a huge waste of money. Your T shirts suck too. Sincerly, Terry Kirby

Donald, You are the one that said," The Black Hill is a waste of money." Not I. And Did I call you stupid? No. Also I can post where I please, so check yourself. This is Slalomskateboarder.com and comments are welcome. You should really try to Respond and not React to people that disagree with you. Maybe you would'nt feel so threatened. Donald you dont know who I am either. Lighten up. Racing is Fun.

ok adrian and jack
the net is tricky to say the least
i interpreted your posts in a different way than you seem to have meant it.
adrian just said the magic words.chances are high/very high that we dig each other when we meet.
jak:i'll thoroughly test the deck and give you detailled info about my impression of the deck.
also,i want to say that my first comment on your stuff, was a bit harsh-or not well eough written and expressed.
since this thing seems to be a one man enterprise,i fully endorse it.bahne,in my oppinion, seemed to be a manufacturing gig from an anonymous company.and i have to admit that i really don't dig those.
from what i see you are deeply involved in it.
for comparison.i run several brands in germany and i have the amount you mentioned invested in my projects.
one of the things going is here:www.peek-skateboards.com

i'll lighten up right now and try not to be harsh anymore, does that sound good enough?
and jack...you can reply to this if you want,ok?
