If you liked TX Sizzler you will like State Games of Oregon
Congrats to the organizers and racers at the Texas Sizzler.
If you liked that, you may also want to make plans for the Oregon State Games June 25-26
We also have a nice smooth long Soap Box Derby track.
We will be running 4 events: GS, Dual Hybrid, Tight, Slalomcross
Sign up and more info here: http://www.stategamesoforegon.org/sport ... son=summer
Our event is a bit smaller, fewer sponsors, less expensive. Fast, fun racing on the buttery-smooth tree-lined Salem Soap Box Derby Hill !

Bursaries
We want to thank ISSA for taking these steps in order to help out some of the racers. Considering we are all this to get rich everything helps.
The organizers of the event in Canada also decided to match the offer. You can read about it here at our website.

Good Luck to all in the races this season and we hope to see you in Ottawa, Canada this summer.

Just got off the phone with Marion Karr. He's been in the ER for four hours. He was bombing a section of trail when a pine cone got him a bit squirrely. He decided to head for what looked like a bed of pine straw before bailing. What he didn't know was under the pine straw is rock. He's got a knee cut to the bone and has 40 stitches. He'll be slowed for at least 10 days. Nothing broken, though.
Marion told me last night he finished the first stage in 15th place last night. Of the original 25 riders it is now down to 15 with one more stage left for tomorrow. The temps are rising steadily and the grades are getting longer heading into Alabama.

Re: POST ONLY REPLIES, don't use New Topic
St Louis was a BLAST FROM THE PAST. I had not raced there since 2003. I believe nine of the original racers were there. Racing that is. To my fellow Texas Outlaws. Bros being there with ya, hanging out, racing, raising hell. It was an HONOR. Fare thee well. We shall session soon. It was hot, humid, mosquitoes and racing, seeing old friends and meeting new ones. I was SO STOKED TO BE THERE. It has been too long. The Texas Outlaws owe alot to JBH OF THE SAINT LOUIS DAGGERS. He has been to so many Texas Sizzlers and been our guest course setter on the GS. For those of you who raced Oasis Bluff. That was his sick mind. Scary, but makable. Friday I got to practice, met the future. The future looks good so far, Both in Texas and the Midwest. The kids are Fast, Stoked, and some are just a hair away from the top. WT showed up and everyone there was glad to see him race again. He is still on his game. I tip my hat to you sir. Till next time. Saturday was fast at the top, slow in the middle and fast at the end. If you had the right line, you had it. Sunday was fast, exausting, lots of pumping and cone processing while you are being pulled by the G forces making the S turns. If you leaned into the S course. No problen. Ancient chinese secret, actually Keith Hollien taught me that in 2003. It was an endurance course. At 60-70 cones. Your legs were burning. At 90 YOU were glad you made it through. And clean. This race meant so much for me. It was my second race back in 2003. Saw my Pavel Team Mates. Paul Price good win Mate. St Louis Daggers good race. Mellow atmosphere. It has to be the trees man. To all of St Louis Daggers ,Goad, JBH, Paul, Mary, Sasha awesome race. I will return next year. Kentucky is next, I want a Davy Crockett/Daniel Boone hat. I hope I can get one there. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.
Original 2003 crew and winner Paul Price .
Texas Outlaws crew, believe there are more back in Texas.

Nine years ago today it was raining so hard on Folly Beach you could barely see across the street. Eventually, everyone moved to the Visitor Center Bus Terminal where we interrupted somebody's wedding reception. The racing lasted well into the wee hours of the morning. Some guy (don't know who) slalomed down the course standing on a beer cooler balanced on his board.
Some folks I met that day for the first time:
Gilmour
Michael Brooke
Bobby Mandarino
Paul Price
Pierre Samray
Cabbage

We all remember J.R. "The Star" Lee who rode a Greyhound Bus from San Diego all the way to Edge of America and had his entire quiver stolen at a layover in Dallas. Totally cool dude who took it all in stride. He was stoked to attend and made the most of his time in the Lowcountry.

Oceanside Open is Go.
Loretta Street both days.
Saturday: Dual Lane hybrid, then single lane tight, two courses.
Sunday: Single lane GS and speed trap. You must enter the GS to ride the speed trap. Get there early before the headwind picks up. Fastest times will go first.
$60.
Sign up on n c d s a
Hotel accomodation details there.
Road: Somehow getting better than it was in the past, but keep in mind, Gravity holds the slide fest here. I have been riding 80-82 or harder and have no slippage problems. Courses are set to the hill, right?
Waiting for event status, but having City approval was a major breakthrough.

I just put this on Facebook and also wanted to pass it along here.
I don't know how many of you over the years have called Marion Karr at Execquest, but if you did perhaps Jim answered the phone. Jim Blackwood was Marion's right-hand man in the business and an excellent sales performer for the company. Last night he suffered a fatal heart attack. I'm not exactly sure but I think Jim and I were the same age (50).
As you can imagine it's a very traumatic event for all involved. Jim has a daughter who's a sophomore at Duke University and things for her and her mother will get very complicated. Of course, ExecQuest will have to do some major moves very quickly to stay on top of this tragedy.
It's a very trying time for everyone involved and I thought the slalom community would want to know.

I just thought that I would repost this here for better visability. Glenn
From Dave Kirkpatrick:
Skaters,
Sorry for the wait -
You can sign up for the Antrim Can Am Slalom Skateboard Championships on NCDSA: http://www.ncdsa.com/contest_registrati ... 521#signup
You aren't fully confirmed until you make payment through Active: http://www.active.com/page/Event_Detail ... 6beffc131d
...OR make other arrangements with me. Town of Antrim can take CC or checks, cash... but please get on the NCDSA list so we can count you and extra shirts, etc.
Beginner race is free, of course, and there will be extra-credit races to be had each day, if all goes as planned.
Housing at the Maharishi is good to go, $25 pp/per night, I'll post their contact info ASAP, they will not sell out. If you need other housing or camping info, let me know.
Let me know of any signup issues, they both seemed to work fine in MY sandbox.
Game on!

Re: POST ONLY REPLIES, don't use New Topic
The beginner race is free; it is usually on the run out of the GS course. Don't expect big and fast. You will need to sign a release if over 18 or have a parent there that will sign for you. You will also need a helmet (some times there are loaners available). Pads are nice and recommended but they have not been a requirement in the past. There usually are few loaner slalom boards that are shared by the group. There are typically mix of kids and adults that give it a try. As far as I know it will be held sometime on Sunday afternoon, but check back for details.

Re: POST ONLY REPLIES, don't use New Topic
Thanks for the post Glenn,
Yes, beginners race is mostly kids but anyone's welcome. Glenn said it pretty well. Shallow end of the hill, loaner gear, they usually each get to run several times and choose a really easy course, or a less easy course, or if you just make it to the bottom of the incline you get placed in the "bomber division" - didn't go through the cones, but survived!
This is a great event to check it out at.Town Home and Harvest with food, fireworks, music, fun & games, craft fair... If you need an excuse to go, take the kid or the girlfriend "to the fireworks" on Saturday, and you'll see the best racers while you wander the festival in the daylight.
Need info? Let me know.

Y'all should keep the northeast crew in your thoughts today. Looking at the track it appears Fatboy, Scooter, Noah, Tway, Joe I, ur13 and many others are going to take a big hit today. I'll be surprised if we hear from any of them for a while because electricity will be gone by the end of the day. Forecasts show it might fizzle a bit before getting to Boston and TK farther north.
No matter what it will NOT be a fun day up there today.

Thanks GlennGlenn Chapman wrote:The beginner race is free; it is usually on the run out of the GS course. Don't expect big and fast. You will need to sign a release if over 18 or have a parent there that will sign for you. You will also need a helmet (some times there are loaners available). Thanks for the thoughts -
We did OK in Antrim, some power outages and high water, but mostly just branches and junk in the road. South of here on the coast, they got some of the heavy stuff. I hope everyone's alright down there.
