No Big View this year
After talking with the folks at River Place it looks like our chances of racing at Big View are now slim to none. Last year the board sent our request thruogh with no problems at all. This year (as of today) 3 of the 9 votes came back with a NO. Before the race last year Me, Matt and Andrew were the only people skating this hill regularly. I said it before I'll say it again. WE GO EARLY ON SUNDAY MORNINGS AND WE LEAVE EARLY!!!!!! It's real simple. The less people you encounter the better.
Over the last few months it seems that a new group of kids has found this hill and have no idea how to conduct themselves. The Austin Longboard Club http://www.austinlongboardclub.com/board/index.php
Check out their site and you will see what were dealing with. A bunch of stupid fucking kids with no respect for anyone or any spot. In my previous post I pointed out how we have managed to keep this spot going for over 5 years with the proper etiquette and discretion. This was met with typical jr.high mentality "f you, we know whats, up you don't know us" kinda crap. These kooks are out there stopping traffic in the middle of the afternoon so they can do their slide bullshit. They also mentiom going out to the hill with a cooler of beer and chillin at the bottom. FUCKING MORONS!!!!!!!!!!!
At any rate if you got to race Big View last year congrats. If not and you were hoping to this year, it dose not look good thanks to these idiots!
Also if your a vendor I would suggest not sending these kids any schwag as they are doing nothing positive for skateboarding in Austin,Texas.

I did take the time to check out the ALC site and read Matt's post and the responses to it. I don't know those guys, obviously, but I do know Matt and Ryan, and if either of them says he's been riding there with NO incident for five years, then all of a sudden there's a problem, it does make you wonder just what made it change. I sure hope the negative vibe among the homeowners down there is only temporary.

It's too bad that there will be no Sizzler on Big View this year (or probably ever) but I liked the video. One of those guys is a hell of a skater.
It's also too bad that some people who live about a thousand miles away from that hill complain about those little bastards ruining "our hill".
Those little bastards live there.
I was once a little bastard as were probably a lot of us here.
Give them a break.
They're just doing there job.

Troy... you don't know what you are talking about dude.
Tough shit if there is a guy that's a "hell of a skater," as you said. He is a hell of a skater with no manners or respect for anyone but himself.
These kids stopped the cars of the people who live in this neighborhood to do their sliding & downhill.
It's has to do with common courtesy. You don't do that--- plain & simple.
You have to respect the people who live and drive in these neighborhoods or we will never get any respect!
What they did was absolutely wrong. End of story.
And... yes, they did ruin any chance we had of securing that hill this year.
We had the ENTIRE neighborhood out cheering for us last year. We were respectful of them & they were respectful of us.
So sit on your bullshit post & spin.

Joe, C'mon.... what do you mean, "skaters are skaters." ??? That's a total cop-out & not what I would have expected from you.Joe Iacovelli wrote:Blowing out a hill by overstaying your welcome is dumb. Doing it with a cooler full of beer is worse. I hear you Troy, skaters are skaters, but these guys don't live there, they found out about it on the internet, so don't tell anybody where your LI race is going to be this summer.
The skaters I have skated with--- including you, don't think they have entitlement to do whatever they want, wherever they want.
Don't be a kiss-ass, Joe. I know you don't condone this type of behavior.
Mr Smart's post made no sense what-so-ever and you know it.
Hugs & kisses to you, Joe.
(oh geez, am I being a kiss-ass?)

Ok, grandma, you continue to complain about those little bastards on your front lawn and I guess I'll sit on it and spin (nice dig Potsie).
I happen to still remember when I was in my late and early teens (its the twenties that are a blur), and guess what? I was a nice kid but I was also, on occasion, irresponsible, wreckless, and stupid.
As much as I loved racing that hill and looked forward to racing it again, I knew that it's days were numbered.
It was too perfect but more importantly the neighborhood was too nice.
I got to race on it once for real and a hundred times in my dreams.
I guess that will have to do.

You know girl, while being more mature and all, you too have confronted authority. It's the way it is ! Part of the grand scheme! I don't agree with the logic, but the fact remains!
Cats will be Cats...Joes will be Joes and Skaters will be skaters!

Looks like their having fun!
Although the neighbours closed out the road for the race doesn't seem like they are up in arms over the use of the hill by this group.
Seems to me from the footage that there is quite a few of them and they were out for a while. Plenty of time for the law to show up and fine or simply get rid of them with a don't return warning.
It sucks but that's what it looks like. Most likely there was more concern about closing down the road for the day then actually having it used for sk8 sessions.

And......... Daves will be Daves & continue to stock Cats on the internet, Troys will be Troys & continue to write idiodic, illogical, non-sensible posts, JBH will always be a horn dog , Wesley will always wish he could kick ass like a Cat, Joe will always be a pain-in-the-ass.... but a really funny pain-in-the-ass when alcohol is involved, and Claude will always try to iron things out & be the voice of reason........ but..........Dave Gale wrote:Cat ,

You are wrong on this one Claude. The neighbors in San Marcos around Big View, the folks that matter.. the one's who held the decision in their hands to let us or not let us aquire the hill for the Sizzler race, are pissed off that these punks, who would act as traffic cops & stop their cars in the middle of the street while their buddy finished his wanna-be slide, are invading their neighborhood.
There is no other way to put it....... those kids ruined any chance we had to enjoy that great piece of asphault this year. Even Gumby is pissed! He NEVER posts, but he posted on another Texas forum.
As my Wyoming buddy Pauli would say, "there's my two cents."

Well it was a huge bummber losing Big View. That is a for sure. Last year we got 9 votes yes from the home owners association from RiverView where Big View is located. This year we got 0 votes. We were associated with the sliders that ride out there. They have appologized for their actions on a Texas website. But appologies only get you so far. We lost a lot when we lost that hill. But racing must go on. More imformation to follow soon and sign up sheet going up on the NCDSA by this month. I really love to skate, nothing can beat that feeling. FREEDOM. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws/Pavel Flow. Luv ya Cat.

Wrong side?
Cat, I'm not on the wrong side. Maybe in your opinion the wrong view.
I fully understand what has transpired. What seems to be wrong with the picture is that they seem to have enjoyed several uneventful (cops) sessions at this prime spot that has lost a great race feature.
It sure was nice to head out to Texas in February for some great racing and hanging with some friends. It sucks that the Big View location is lost.
I've dealt with skaters and non skaters yearly since about '73 or so, In every facet imaginable. I've removed at least a dozen from the many skateparks I have owned, managed or skated at. I have refused to host events for certain professional street teams and such.
All I am stating is that from the video it seems that if I was disgruntled neighbor/resident I would be waiting for them with phone in hand and have them removed. It' a bitch but if they can't respect the space and the environment then they have no right to it.

Texas Outlaws, sorry that you lost your hill. I don't know how I'd react if we
lost Hobby Park, or another local spot because of something like this.
Just think. Years from now, when all of this has gone away, some cool people
will skate the hill again. Then they will share the hill, and eventually some
jackass will come along and screw it up for the rest. One big circle.
Impermanence can be a bitch, ya know?

Re: Wrong side?
Now that is reality Claude! I thought the same thing..there were several skaters, several observers and not a single law enforcement or apparent disgruntled local! The time allowed for them to be busted on the spot. If they can't respect the wishes of the land owners, and have no respect for the Texas Outlaws' wishes to maintain a good repore with the residence and home owners assoc. It's a shame that an organized race has to take the fall! But that's what the majority of skaters are like! And are precieved by the general public!Claude Regnier wrote:Cat, I'm not on the wrong side. Maybe in your opinion the wrong view.
