Racin' in Texas

Post by trish erickson » Wed Jan 18, 2006 4:36 am

Hey UPC Boys,

I think I might be goin' south to join in the fun at the Texas Sizzler at the end of Febuary. Its a 2 day race that includes Hybrid and a gs course. SO if any of you have any ideas as to how/what to pack or just say hey "good Luck" It sounds like a great race. My brother says Texas is too flat but thats ok for a newbie!

Did you all get that email of Bob doin' a hanstand when he was younger and better looking? I found that picture on a web site called old man army. Rock on Bob!

Hope you all are enjoying the snow.

Ride On,

Utah Trish

Trish,

1. I will be in in TX. You can count on me for help with gear and strategy.

2. Expect a medium GS Saturday and the Sunday race should be 6 feet and above. What's in your quiver? Sounds like two boards, and 12 avalons. Pads, your fastest bearings, and maybe a handful of bushings.

It should be a good beginner race given 1/2 the outlaws are pretty new. I hope you'll come. I've enjoyed your enthusiasm. It would be nice to meet you.

PM me if you want to get specific,

Joe

Trish,
I hope you make it to Texas, it sounds like a great event. I think the other women will be racing for second place if you show up. Thats a great shot of Bob that you found, I've never heard of that site, but there were also some pics of him up at old school skateboarding.
The pics are not up there anymore, but some of them looked like Skateboarder Magazine cover shots from the 70's. And he's still ripping as a grandpa. Peace, Kevin

Quiver!

Post by trish erickson » Thu Jan 19, 2006 2:45 am

Thanks Joe, I really appreciate the support. I am soooo stoked to finally get to meet and ride with you and this great slalom community. You have been really helpful to any and all "newbies." I was/am a bit nervous as to what the course might be like but you set me straight. I don't have much of a "race" quiver so I will bring my PP chicken dagger and my "Martin Drayton " custom roe with the 18 inch wheel base and it's sighned by Martin himself! They are the only boards I have to race with. LOL. Guess I had better get a bigger suitcase. Don't think my duffle bag is going to cut it. Looking forward to sharin' the stoke with ya!

Hey Kevin,

Thanks man. I somehow don't think I'll have much of a chance of winning but I don't care. Just goin' south to race with these guys will be great. Havn't tried the snowboard thing yet. Its been kinda busy for me (i.e. I'm a wimp) But I do have a couple of passes for a free lesson. Just waiting for the sun to shine! Whatever huh!

Happy trails

Just bring Martin!

Geez. The guy has a kid and all of a sudden he thinks he can slack off on all the races.

See ya' in Texas, Trish.

Go Get Im Trish!

you will do awesome and it's so cool to see you heading out across the states to race slalom. i'd totally be up for it, but i will be skiing up in Jackson.

when/if you head up snowboarding, give me a shout. Ashleigh is a beginner too, and while i picked it up fairly quickly, i still have much improvement to be made. we should make it a beginner day and perhaps we can all chip in for martin's experience and know how to baby us along.

good luck, and i seriously can't wait for spring/summer to ride again! i just moved up to the avenues and have been scouting hills to bomb/slalom on. the street i live on (b) is way smooth and steep, but much too highly trafficked.

laters and good luck,

Mike

30+ days and counting!

Post by trish erickson » Thu Jan 26, 2006 4:08 am

Hey all,

I wiggled through a few cones today at the local church parking lot....look out Texas!....ya whatever. LOL It was kinda cool to wiggle and attempt to miss the ice spots. It was a blast.

Hey Joe I. It was great to hear from you. Things should work out with the roomate thing. I recieved an email from Laura and she said there is plenty of room. More details to come. I havn't picked a flight yet. I am hoping the prices come down a bit. Salt lake is a bit pricey with their flights. Troy is wimping out and won't be coming down. I think I embarass him! LOL. Martin the man is MIO. He must be doin' the snowboard thing. Hopin' to get in touch with him before next month. He's a busy boy!

Can't wait to meet you all !

Trish on the podium

Post by Kevin Hornibrook » Wed Mar 01, 2006 1:24 am

Trish got second in hybrid and 3rd in GS amongst the women at the Texas Sizzler. She also had times that beat a lot of the mens times.
Way to make us proud Trish!

Hey Kevin,

thanks for the compliments. Really though, not many women were racing. 3 total. So from that perspective, I didn't do great BUT, I did manage to get put into the "B" bracket for the hybrid. A very tough class. Maybe a little sandbagging into the c class woulda placed in the top 3. HAHa. I did mange to win a really cool "Fatboy" bamboo board compliments of JOE I. It is sooo pretty. It was such a great experience and I can't wait to practice what I learned from all the racers there. Some guy named Erek was posting on the ncdsa site and he is setting up Thursday sessions at the U. He wants to set up a race here in Utah. I think we all need to hook up. Spring is in the air. can't wait to ride again.

see ya soon,

Trish
