I am dedicated to Kryptonics wheels.
Up to now I have been unable to find old C68 -
if you have a set for sale, used or Nos, I will ride them.

Off topic slightly :)
I've got old Kryptonic wheels bought at -78 blue and red, size dia 70mm wide 50 and no nylon core.
Not lip like on Startrac but otherwise look pretty much same, only text on wheels is KRYPTONICS and then 70mm.
Just wondering what of wheels they are :) used to race with them on that time.

@Peter: Speed Kryptos are roller skate wheels (IMO), very hard for Speed or Roller Derby.
No, thank you !

@ Sj Kalliokoski: any pic welcome - I will post some more Kryptos on Sakaroulé so you can check them.
I am interested ! Show me more !

You are right! But anyway I use them on a Alva Pool Pig, they are hard but have still a lot Grip, much more like Powell Peralta Rats for example...
And truly still fast- you can not compare the old Kryptonics with the new ones!!!

Peter: that seems a good use of small and hard wheels.
But ... I prefer them soft and fat, in accordance with the asphalt we have in Guadeloupe.
No park, no concrete
I prefer the Olde Kryptos !

Thx !

These are beautiful "2ng gen" Kryptonics from1977-1978 - just before the nylon core was released.
Lightly used, not abused.

I have 2 sets of these reds - they have sentimental and riding value - but not much for a collector.

Thx !

C-68

Post by Keith Hollien » Mon Apr 26, 2010 11:42 pm

I know I have some used, but I will have to look for them. I have some brand new ones in my wheel collection, but it has been a while since I looked for or saw red, yellow or orange Krytpos. I will look though. I use to skate for Krytonics in the mid eighties(started riding Kryptos in 1976, I think). Mark McCree(Radikal Trucks) and I worked with Kryptonics on the 2nd batch of C-62 & C-68. What we ended up with was the blue and pink C-62 and they did not want to make the C-68 again. I have a batch of the protos I was testing for them and the colors were purple, pink and black for both the C-62 & C-68. The protos were much better than the prodution wheels. It was unfortunate Krypto had lost the original molds and formula for the C-62 & C-68 and had to start over.

They lost the Formulas?
I thought that in the old days they used more poison Chemicals, and now they could not use stoff like that any more...
Maybe i am wrong, but the old wheels are much better than the new Kryptos!

I do not know what kind of chemicals they did use or they do use now.

I was talking about the late 70's C-62 & C-68 wheels that were red(78A), yellow(82A I think) and orange(88A). In the mid 80's Kryptonics wanted to make the C-62 again. They had lost the formula and molds for the earlier C-62 & C-68. It worked out ok for me because I got to help on the blue & pink C-62's. With being said though I have to say the blue and pink C-62's were not as good as the red, yellow and orange ones. While we were testing the proto wheels Krypto made new molds with Kryptonics and C-62 on the wheels. They started with a small run of 500 white(later became the blue) & pink wheels each. The white and pink batch were much better than the production wheels(blue & pink).

I have been skateboarding since 1964 and slaloming since 1976. Today we have by far the fastest wheels ever(not all wheels are good). I remember in the beginning of 2003 after Mark McCree of Radikal Trucks asked me to skate for him again. I was riding some of the blue & pink C-62's and some new Turner Cambria's on a couple of my old models. I kept thinking it felt like somebody had put some glue on my never riden C-62's.

I think today we have the best skateboard wheels ever. I do not know what today's park and street wheels are like though.

Keith, you are right for sure that on Slalom and Downhill today´s Wheels are much better as the ones from the old days!
I remember once back in ´81, I was bombing a hill with 85 Km/h (a Motorcycle rider behind me told me that!), and at the end the bearings burned out the Wheels!
Today fast Wheels even very soft and grippy too! Before only hard Wheels were fast...

But honestly for Streetskating I find the "Vintage" Wheels so much fun- only the noise is amazing, and there are fast (for Street and Pools) too! They scream when they slide a little in a curve... like in the old days....

...shit...

Hey jerome- seriously where did you skate? Sounds like you have only dusty roads- maybe you need offroad wheels?

Hi there !
@ Keith & Peter: interesting news about the second batch.

The first slalom wheels were actually lathed from bigger 2nd Gen (no core, metal ring in 1977) and later from C70s (white core, 1978), then the molds were made and production started in 1979 under the name CS (Core Slalom) but only "C-62" and "C68" engraved.

I have found a strange hybrid engraved "CS-62" with a rounder lip (as opposed to the sharp lip of the C62), soft red urethane ... I will post some pics on Sakaroulé !.

In the Roller skating world there are numerous models I still have to identify.
