[2010] Freshpark World Championships Skateboard-X Oct 9-10
Freshpark World Championships of Skateboard-X
October 9-10, 2010, Morro Bay, California
Sponsored by Freshpark
Co-sponsored by The Skateboarder's Journal
$10,000 total purse
$5,000 for first place
This October, in Morro Bay, California where slalom was reborn in 2001 a brand new way of racing skateboards, combining street, vert and slalom skills in head to head format will be introduced to the skateboarding world.
It's called Skater-X.
Legendary downhill racer Roger Hickey, creator and owner of Freshpark has partnered with World Slalom Skateboarding Championships producer and publisher of The Skateboarder's Journal, Jack Smith to bring you this exciting new event.
Racers will compete head to head on identical 500+ courses littered with ramps, banks, jumps, whoop-de-doos . Each racer will be given two qualifying runs with the top 32 skaters advancing to head to head round.
In the opening round the skater swill be paired off in the typical 1-32, 2-31 format, with the higher qualifier receiving lane choice in each round. In the first round it's do or die, that's right one run will determine if you live to race the next day.
In the following rounds we will use the double elimination format, meaning that a racer must lose twice before being eliminated. No clock will be used in the head to head racing, first skater across the finish line is the winner. A world-class photo finish system will be used to determine the winner of close finishes.
At the end of the day we will end up with the two fastest racers squaring off for the $5,000 first place prize.
Be there!
More information will follow soon.

Yes sir.
Everything is a bit compressed.
After a couple of hours of practice, we will meet with the riders and then make some adjustments.

This sounds like an event for the Swiss boarder cross skaters! Maybe we should collect money and send the hottest Swiss racer over to make it a more exciting race? Legendary racers like David Hackett against some young guns from Switzerland - the country of SkaterCross!
Jack, I hope you get good coverage of the event so that we can watch videos over and over again. Thanks for stepping in as organizer once again! Wishing you good luck and good fun.

Hey Rick,
Nothing specific to the start or whoop-de-doos. For the start, you will be able to drop in from your tail or axle, or you can roll in over the coping. We will be adding an extension to the platform on the start ramp.
There is a bit of vid on the Freshpark home page:

And here are some Youtube clips:

Hope this helps.

PS - I liked your sailing shots on FB.

Will the ramps take a 215 pounder going 25+ hitting them? Have to ask - looks like they'd move maybe? love to see someone running a setup similar to the race to get an idea how to train and what setup to use.
