Some changes due to overwhelming demand....
The organizers of the 2009 World Championships have decided to add a separate MASTERS class.
This is in response to the racers asking for this.
(We also eliminated the PRO Women's class). All of the Women will race in the Women OPEN (PRO/AM) class. (The women wanted to race all in one big group). We are still paying out for the top 1,2,3 racers in the Women's group.
Additionally, the # of competitors advancing to the finals (head to head) is not 16 racers .... the MINIMUM number advancing is per the ISSA rules [which dictates the # to be advanced based on the size of the group of racers who have qualifying times].
We have heard you and are making these changes.

Last year I might have raced Masters if I knew ahead of time that there was a nice money purse. Seems like both Masters and Women had 1/2 the Pro purse. And just in case anyone is wondering: You get to race in ONE CATEGORY only. No double-dipping in men's AM and in Masters... Choose one.

Hey Pat,
Will the CSA be posting the sign up, A La NCDSA so riders can see who's coming, etc? There is one on NCDSA but that was "unofficial" and seems dated. It's always nice to see who's coming so you know how much extra beer to buy.
Just curious while it rains here on my practice sesh.

Hi Pat,
Looking at the poster, the format for the last 2 days seems very different to the norm.ie. having the qualifying for two different events on one day and the finals for the same two events the next day. Am I reading that correctly? Plus qualifying and finals are at two different locations...and on two different pitches/surfaces?
How far will the qualifying go, just 2 runs of TS and 2 runs of Hybrid and done on Saturday, leaving 2 lots of finals from the top 16 (or 8) onwards in each event for Sunday? Doesn't that leave an awful lot of racing for the last day and very little on the Saturday? I think there will be some very tired people mid way through that last day.... and I don't just mean the Masters!
Sorry to ask so many questions... I just like to be prepared.

Yes, for the winners there will be lots of racing on Sunday! Good thing we are not at altitude!
The intent is to take only enough people into H2H on Sunday as will fit into the schedule. It will likely NOT be the full 32, but closer to the # specified in the ISSA rules. (e.g. ISSA rules say if the qualifying group is 20 to 29 people, then 16 go on to the H2H races)
The organizers may decide to hold limited number of H2H runs on Saturday to fit the schedule of Sunday's headline events which are H2H races on the main downtown street.
Sorry there is not more info -- it really depends on the # of signups in each racer group.

Last minute changes
When did this get finalized? What is the deal for the Juniors? Dan & Gabe fly out of PDX on Sunday AM. Missing one race isn't bad but now both TS & HS. The signup seems very confusing to me, 25 racers (17 paid) on your list but 61 registered on NCDSA with 15 racers in the last 2 or 3 weeks. I'm betting I'm not the only one confused...
And my personnal opinion (for what it's worth...): having qualifications and eliminations on different days, hills, pavement, weather (wind, temps), and courses sucks. And I'm with Mike about the brackets.
I will still go if I can make it though...

Big potential problem with qualis and finals on different days is weather. If it rains Saturday or Sunday, you have qualis used as the standings. Maybe better to run a full event each day so at least one gets completed?
Having said that, Jack ran TS/HY qualis on Saturday, and finals on Sunday, at the Nats last year with no problems. We were done with qualis by 2pm Saturday, and Sunday was a long (but great) day with the double elim format.

The list I posted of who-signed-up was a snapshot at the time - because someone asked for such a list.... I am not updating it on a regular basis.
I am receiving PAYPAL, checks, and email on a daily basis with signups.
I respond to these promptly and record them in the official sign-up/paid list which is a spreadsheet on my computer.
Updating an online list of racers for all to see is a low priority.
I would prefer that if a racer has questions about their sign-up status, that they email me directly at issa-wc2009@hotmail.com
