[2011] Skate & Eat. S.Hadley Race - 7/23/11
Ok, let's have a race! How about:
( The 4th annual! )
SOUTH HADLEY SKATE & EAT RACE
Saturday, July 23, 10:00 am - My house
http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&tab=wl
rain date -- Sunday
Same format,
First, a Hybrid course from about driveway level,
followed by Barbecue lunch and Kids/Novice race
then, Super-G from the top -for those who dare.
For the uninitiated, this is a quite steep fairly short hill right at my house. It is a dead end street with little traffic, and so far cooperative, bemused neighbors. It is an "outlaw" event, but has been well received so far. I'd like to keep it that way-- so we will expect good behavior from all attending.
I will provide the basic BBQ staples. More exotic contributions are welcome and encouraged. You won't leave hungry!
Last years race, (with sketchy ramp features) http://www.youtube.com/user/dk400rider# ... Vr0qgCsLg8
See you there!

Thanks Dan! I need to find a steep hill to get some practice on. See you there. Let me know if you need anything.
Re: Skate & Eat. S.Hadley Race - 7/23/11
Hi Dan,
I hope to be there also - I'll see if I can scrounge up something exotic to grill.
Thanks for hosting,
Terry

Excellent!
This is a fast, fun little hill, family friendly neighborhood, always with great company and great food.
Boston area skaters, Antrim/NH skaters, you might hook up rides out there with a few of us who are going - let me know, or post here.
Hey, let's all try to come up with some kind of sketchy bush meat to throw on Dan's grill. I've always wanted to try squirrel...

I have a feeling that what we call "sketchy bush meat" in Boston might not be what our NH friends would lable "sketchy bush meat."

I assure you, we have the sketchiest... and the finest. The middle ground is rather thin.
Andabump.
Not to forget Dr Dan's! We're down a NESRA race this year and haven't picked up a new one. Let's keep bringing the new ones on board, this is a mellow and friendly race! DH guys might try a few runs on this hill, and borrow some slalom gear, try it out?
The fabulous astronaut timer is working great, my kids are raring to go, and with a little luck there will be something in the HavaHart trap by Friday.
Lets go!

I'll see what I can find crawling around too. If my cat uses it's claws on my leather chair one more time, it might be pretty easy to find something for the grill. I hope I didn't miss my chance by not picking up the sea gull on the side of the Mass Pike this morning, but I was already running late.
I hope to have my 9 year olds with me (maybe one racer?). Looking forward to Sat.

Any one traveling from the Boston area, I can make a stop at the Riverside stop on the Green Line to pick up skaters (we will need to leave Riverside by 8:30am). You will need to contact me here or on my cell phone if you want a ride. I can fit up to 6 skaters and gear, NO SMOKING, NO DRINKING, NO DRUGS. Glenn

Dan,
I am still coming up on Saturday - just going to be a little late (between 10:30 - 11:00).
Looking forward to running some cones,
Terry

Dave, Glen, Dave, Terry, Oliver et al... Glad to see you can all make it.
Looks like we should have a good day. I'll have plenty of fluids on hand if it gets hot. Maybe an after-race trip to a swimming hole will be in order?
Anyway, everyone else, welcome and feel free to drag some friends along this weekend, but please continue sending me an post/pm/email -so I could get an estimate headcount.
I will need to know how much grass-fed filet mignon I will need to marinate in the Bordeaux! ;o)

Thanks Dan and the rest of the Parrish clan. Wow, that was a fun day, great racing and a cookout. Karl and Curt were fast in the hybrid but some how Dr. Dan, Dave K and I were able to take them in the KING of the HILL GS, it is fun the bomb that corner. Hopefully we will see all of you and more for Dave's Antrim Outlaw next weekend.

Was there no Queen of the Hill?
Thanks Dr. Dan for the event as well as Glenn and others for helping to get things rolling.
The rack of lamb was most excellent.

Thanks to the Parrish clan for hosting a fun race. Olivia and Maddie had a great time and asked if we could do some more slalom before the race next weekend!

The South Hadley Skate & Eat Results
Thanks for a great day everyone! We had a good turnout considering the conditions. The weather always seems to be a challenge; either rain, too hot, or this year -- both. After a brief delay to let the road dry, we got started on the hybrid. With the surprise reappearance of Karl to the NE skate scene, the level of competition stepped up. Three-quarters of the way through the race, we let on that we were recording a secret one-second penalty on his times. The results were different after that-. Karl won the hybrid.
1. Karl 17.734
2. Curt 17.885
3. Glen 19.003
4. Terry 19.419
5. Dave K. 19.922
6. Dan 20.337
7. Oliver 21.439
8. Dave GW 23.495
Next up, we set a course from halfway down the steep section of the hill. A B-Class, if you will. The hill, from the top, is quite steep and fast, and the lower start allowed more racing from those who felt uncomfortable riding from the top. Divided by gender, the results were
1. Oliver 13.807
2. Dave GW 14.875
1. Lindsey 15.349
2. Delaney 17.347
3. Bailey 20.545
Next on the agenda was lunch. BBQ fare included hot-dogs, burgers, sausages, kebabs, salads, beans, etc. While eating, the kids race was set up. Enticed out of the air-conditioned house by ice-pops and a prize for all participants, several kids rode their skateboards for the first time.
1. Maddie 18.126
2. Angus 18.367
3. Dante 18.836
4. Julian 22.134
5. Olivia 25.702
6. Jack 25.887
Thanks for coming everyone.
See you next year!
7. Andrei DNF (fell on his butt!)
After the kids race, we had the "awards ceremony." The kids received supersoaker waterguns and everyone got their "Hot Skater" certificates for participating in the race. (The heat-index of the day was near 100 degrees) After this, people started heading out, and the hearty souls who dared to continue and brave the heat, ran the Super GS from the top. Beating out Karl for the Super GS title;
1. Glen 19.925
2. Dan 20.751
3. Dave 21.749
4. Karl DNS
Thanks for coming everyone. Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Great skate Dan. Catching up on my backlog a little here:
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set= ... 448&type=1
Thanks to Oliver and Bailey for the fine camera work.
Let me know if you can't see them, I'll put them up elsewhere. There are a LOT of pics in this collection, where would one post the whole lot without too much fuss?
