Hey Nick,
Don't give up so easy!! This TS race is being held as a result of this years races being more loose and less technical. Also, the location is more likely subject to a bust than say Magnolia Woods in Gloucester. Therefore, it is not a good idea to set up a separate course for newbies. Karl does not even want to run a dual TS race as it increases the chance of a bust.
The Chapman family live in Gloucester and practice at Magnolia Woods. You could try contacting them for a practice session. I attended a practice session there last year at the end of October or even early November. So it is not too late.
If you are serious about learning slalom, just post up that you want a practice session. Magnolia Woods is a great location and a couple of courses can be set at a time. I'm sure the crew will respond. Make sure you show up and bring your friends. You will have a blast. Ask lots of questions and try as many boards as you can get your hands on.
See you at the hill.

Lost/ Forgotten Gear
Anybody pick some Harbinger Wrist Guards and Smith Scab Elbow Pads.
I put them down after my run when I went down to help cone and left everything there. We managed to pick my knee pads and such but must have missed the above mentioned gear as we did a final swoop of the area everything was gone.
Now that I'm getting my gear ready to die again this above stuff is not around. We figure I left it at Ball Damm or someone around me packed it by accident when they grabbed their stuff. It was near the race start area.
If you've got it maybe you can get it to someone going to North Carolina.
Thanks, Claude

Tway!!!!
No small effort on your part. I'm sure it will bring smiles to lots of faces. Thank you for all you do.
I'm very proud of The Farm Series 1.0. With very little organization/brain power we pulled off the first series in the North East that saw close to 100 seperate racers. We had first timers at race 2 that were in the top half by the finale. The new racers were pushing the old racers and everybody was skating for the joy of it.
I want to say thank you to those manufacturesr that supported our efforts this year with deals on gear to get the new guys rolling. Fatboy, PPS, Asphalt Playground, and Skaterbuilt sent us gear at or below wholesale that got sold out of my garage and the back of my car. Local skaters and friends around the country flowed good used gear to the new kids too. It was a stone cold groove.
Next year is going to be amazing. Farm races will be breaking out all over. Now we just need cheaper timing equipment and Winnebagos.
Love you guys,
Joe

Ohm,
I burned a test DVD last night and the quality came out sweet. There is one small hang-up in the test disc but I fixed it this morning. I'll give you the test copy in NC. All the vids were shot in widescreen format.
I'm leaving Thursday afternoon for Richmond as I have two meetings there Fri. morning then I'm on the road to Statesville. Hope to make it there by dark.
I'll be burning DVD's of the complete outlaw series + bonus footage pretty soon.

Tway's DVD
Hey Tway,
Utah Trish here. I saw your video of the finale' and loved it. It made me go out and run cones today! (not that it takes much.) I was wondering if your DVD will be available to us skaters that were not able to attend when it becomes available?
Happy trails to all you goin' south to the Dixie cup! Have a great race!

By the way Leo, I've never seen the videos you took at Da Farm or at the Outlaw Finale. Is there somewhere on the web where I can see them?
And Tway, nice video man! Let me know what I have to do to get one of those DVD's.

anyone interested in the idea of swap meets? i have heard many other people doing this and i thought it would always be nice to get rid of equipment that i don't need and see what other people are getting rid of.
so who would like the idea of at least one swap meet this summer at a race?

Leo's Photobin
Damn! I finally got really LOOK at Leo's shots from that last Farm at Ball Mt. !! WOW! Thanks, Leo...
It's something that's so simple to overlook doing (um, especially when you're setting cones), but having photos taken from a Skater's P.O.V. is so very important. So, thanks Leo. Nice stuff indeed!

Ok Farmers the 2006 season is just around the next cone so it's time to get organized. We need potential organizers to step up and grab/change some dates. The only confirmed date thus far is May 13th. Karl will be hosting this event.
All other dates are TBD and I would love to add a bunch more. We hope to have 2 events at Ball Mt. Dam and return to a few of the same venues as last season as well as adding additional ones.
We would also love to have Mig or any other Canadian outlaw organizers join the tour.
Let the Farm Outlaw CanAm tour begin.
Joe, Glenn, Paul, Noah, PSR, Karl, TK, Mig....lets work together and make this a killer season.
The wheel is turning and it won't slow down...

Ok I'm in. June 17th would probably be good for a Quebec race if the date is not taken or September 9th would be cool. I'm assuming August 5-6 is the official The Farm. I'll talk with the crew tonight at the session and let you all know. Man, it's going to be a great season!William Tway wrote:We would also love to have Mig or any other Canadian outlaw organizers join the tour.

I am very happy to be part of the series! I am already knee deep in organizing the School Slalom Jam, which we are trying to make the biggest junior race of the year. Schwipster, the Weasel, Chappy, James West from New Mexico, Mike D, who will walk away with it all?

Farm Series
Hey Joe & Tway,
Thanks for the invite. Count me in for a race.
A July race date sounds perfect for Maine. I don't have a location yet, but I'll work on that after tax season with your input. Speaking of tax season, could you move the April 15th race up a week or two??? I tried calling the IRS, but I'm still on hold.
Ahhhh!! The party. The other reson we all skate. As long as my dad stays healthy, we are in.
I hope to have the after party at my Dad's house located on Sebago Lake. The house (non-rustic and no out house, sorry Joe) is located right on the lake with a good size shaded back yard facing the lake. The yard is flat so Godfather bowling is big as is horseshoes. A sandy beach is great for the kids and sun seekers. Also, has a dock with a fishing boat used for tours of the lake and tubing. At night a fire is lit in the pit, which helps with the bugs and great for making smores.
Becuase this is Maine a seafood feast is a must. I was thinking lobsters, scallops and clams. After tax season, I intend to do some hen claming. The clam cakes are as big as hamburgers. Perhaps, clam cake pie for the podium winners??? The house is party central and we encourage drinking ice cold Maine micro-brewed beer, unlimited pink pussey shots, porn and Fatboy dipping at the end of the dock.
To our French brothers, please feel welcome as French is spoken here as well. Dad is from the Quebec area and would enjoy your company and coversing in French.
It's on - BRING IT!!!

WOW! Possible contender to unseat The Farm for best race/party of the year. There is also a news paper article involved. Good press for our slalom mission.
Just an FYI for everybody, as this is on a lake, I'll be putting on a Goalie mask and killing;
1. Skinnydippers
2. Weedsmokers
3. High School Jocks
As in Slasher film tradition, virgins will be spared. Good news for Karl & Weasel. The jury is still out on the Canandians.

Podium Joe,
Thanks for reminding me about the newspaper article. I have a client that writes a couple of stories each week (includes a color picture or two) for the Outdoor section of the Maine Sunday Telegram. She loved the idea of covering a grassroots race. As part of her research, she has to experience the activity covered. Therefore and in Joe's terms, she needs to learn the ways of the cone.
Ron,
Great idea!!! Instead of a vintage race a catamaran race. Of course, to make it more realistic hip pads will be disallowed. Ouch!!! Remember those hippers complete with road rash??
Back to taxes - just three more weeks.

Joe,
Marathon day is Monday April 18th. Also know as Patriots Day in MA & ME and as a result we get an additional day tacked on to tax season.

The east coast hills will soon be alive with the sound of ur
Great responses!! Let's get this show on the road.
I spoke to Noah and we’re hoping the first race will be in NJ on April 22nd or 23rd. Once confirmed, if there's still enough time, we'll post it up on the CC. As with any outlaw race, there is always the possibility of a bust so we want to make sure we have a backup locale if babylon should happen sneak up on us and give us the boot.
For now, it looks pretty good for the beginning of the season so we have a little time to organize the rest of the series.
Paul and Mig, Thanks for stepping up to the plate. I'd love to race in both Maine and Quebec.
If anyone is interested in hosting a race, post it up. We still have time in Sept. maybe another one in late August.
Thanks,
tway.

Boston Marathon day race
April 17- Patriots day...
Its the Monday after tax day. Boston Marathon day.
The spot is the Massachusetts avenue underpass which is at the intersection of Commonwealth Ave and Massachusetts Ave.
Mapquest 354 Commonwealth ave Boston MA 02115.
For those who have raced the July 4th race before- where the July 4th race is the Storrow drive underpass that goes underneath the Mass Ave. bridge- this is very similar
This is just two blocks further away from the river.
It is always closed to traffic marathon day.,
I have set cones up there for years and never been shut down.
tons of spectators.
It was repaved this past fall (i never wanted to use it before because the pavement was bad) -now hte pavement is primo NEW and smooth and good for a ts or hybrid. Slightly less pitch than July 4th because you are not starting from an elevated overpass. 4 lanes total available for racing - 2 in each direction. You could set up a total of 4 courses if you want.
I'll provide the barbeque and announcing.
Who wants to bring the timer?
I say lets do it as a jam session. and as time winds down we eliminate the slower skaters Every 5 minutes the bottom 5 skaters race and the bottom 3 are eliminated. Unlimited push.
If we are willing to try a new cone penalty.. If you hit a cone it costs you $1 which goes to the Hooter girls picking them up. If we want prize money we could increse the cone penalty to $2 and half of that will go into the pot. Prize money gets doled out 60-25-15
No entry fee- just cone penalties.
If 15 people seriously commit I'll ask the Hooters girls to cone marshall....we should get a decent crowd then.

OK Farmers,
Race#1 is tentatively set for Sunday April 23rd in NJ. Details to follow.
It will be a very grassroots outlaw race. No frills. Race and bail as the bust factor is high but there is a good backup site about 20min. down the road.
We all need to work together to make this happen. Be ready to go with few practice runs.
Bring it.
JG,
The Easter Sunday race sounds killer if I want a divorce.
