Another Luna Slalom Jam is in the books, the fifth LSJ. I must say it was one of the best. We had a great time with old friends and met many new ones. We had several that couldn’t make it for one reason or another and believe me, we missed you. Sorry you couldn’t be there.
I can’t say enough about our sponsors this year. You guys are great. Foiled Concepts’ owner Gabe Steptoe made the trophies for the event. Hand carved, hand painted surfboard shaped beauties. How many times has the actual trophy itself been what is on the mind of the racer on the start ramp in the consi round, “Will I score one of those trophies or not”. They were that cool. Thanks Gabe and Sarah. I’d also like to thank ChiXill, Fullbag, Pleasure Tool, Gravity, Sk8King, Radikal Trucks, Roe Racing, Concrete Wave, ASSA, Doc*36, Swell-o-phonic, SkateMS.com, Road Kill Racing, The Ross Barnett Rez and the City of Ridgeland and of course PPS.
Chicken, we did you proud in the Pocket Pistol Blood, Guts and Glory Slalomcross on Friday night. It went really well and everyone had a new experience on their slalom boards. There were several close races and a few close calls (Josh and Evan for one), but overall it was a safe event only a little bloodshed. We had no disputes on rules, no intentional elbows in the mouth, nothing like that at all; just close racing and big smiles. Josh Byrd was able to get out in front for the win in the “A”group and Harms fought his way to a win in the “B”. Slalomcross is coming, get ready. Thanks to FCR for the idea.
Thanks to all the racers and family and friends thereof who made it to the race and the festivities afterward. It was all a great time. People like Eric Sanders and the Bama boys, Texas Outlaws from all parts, and it was good to have the DHB crew there. People like these are what make it all what it is. One group that has raced with us since before Luna is the STL Daggers. We were so glad to have Harms, Graf and Buckles, but missed our good friends Chainsaw, Seeger and of course Go-Go Goad. We were thinking of you all weekend. We missed you guys.
The ramp jam at Clifton’s was sick. So sick in fact I threw up…twice. Gumby, Harms, Frank, Tate, Lou , etc. ripped it down big time, inverts, deep front side and back side rocks, you name it. The pool coping was broken in well before the night fell. With flood lights on, it continued well into the night. I hope everyone got plenty to eat and drink. Thank Foiled Concepts for those huge fresh gulf shrimp… awesome. We had a blast. Thanks for coming.
Congratulations to all the winners. Keith performs with the precision of a machine once again to repeat his win from last year. Josh, Harms and Evan were no easy opponents; no one gave anything away without a fight. With a stiff .2 cone penalty and a brutal 3X false start penalty you had to be on your game or pay the price as many did. We wanted to have a women’s race but before I knew it we had moved on to awards. Sorry girls, I wanted to see a Sarah Byrd / Stephanie St. Clair match-up. Again, sorry for that, we’ll plan on it next time. Evan St.Clair holds the honor of fastest time of the day at 15.033 set in the round of four against Harms. Harms advanced in that round anyway winning by only .044.
Thanks to all our local support that I could not do this without like my wife Lisa, my brother Wally, my high school buddy Andy, Frank Henn, Andrew Eure Marcos OG TX Outlaw for the use of his switches, flawless and of course Clifton Jennings for his fun and laughter through the years.
