Jean,
A few years ago on American ESPN CLASSIC tv, they were rerunning what they called ABC WIDE WORLD OF SPORTS CLASSICS. The Catalina Classic coverage was part of the rebroadcasts (the CC was originally on ABC's Wide World Of Sports.)
I'll have to say I am STUNNED it didn't get taped and put on YouTube. Everything else is there.
Anyway, I'm sure someone has it. The rebroadcast was rebroadcasted several times. I know one Sunday I was sitting here and watching while on the phone with Bill Tway while he was watching it in New York.
(It was watching this that I first realized Bobby Piercy DID NOT win riding in a true parallel stance. I don't know about other races, but that day he adjusted his feet with one foot on the back and one up front for the same reason I have had to: to get off the start ramp. Quite an eye-opener.)

Piercy
Geez Tuck, I coulda told you that....
The key for Piercy though was that he got faster AFTER he hit the pavement, rather than be at top speed at the bottom of the ramp.
You might wanna work on that.......
(I'm bored today, can you tell?)

Re: 77 ' CATALINA CLASSIC TV FOOTAGE ?
Glad you guys found this original coverage on YT. I think I used a borrowed copy on VHS from Jack Smith years ago to produce coverage segments of the 2002 Catalina Classic but only used a short bit in the opening. Anyway, the 2002 segments I produced are also on YT now on my OffTheRailsTV channel:

http://youtu.be/8RX7Bvq-5ZQ (version for local news in So Cal - 2002 Catalina Classic)
Other stuff there to check out too.
