I can't hear, but the highlight of the night was when the drummer for DI (formerly from the Adolescents) switch places with the lead singer and ripped a killer version of The Adolescents old favorite "amoeba"!!!!!!! THe Dickies were ok and the Huns were good too.

Yo DC Outlaws,

The Adams Morgan Festival officials have given us the hill (15th Street) for Saturday 6th of Sept. I am reluctant as I don't believe I'll have many Stand-Up riders. Unfortunetly, there is a GSI race the same day in West Virginia and many riders have already committed. We could allow the DC slalom guys half the time on the hill to have a race (3 hours). GS or SlalomCross would be nice. 15th has a nice run-out. No heavy footbraking!

Anthony, that sounds teriffic! With alot of people NOT going to the slalom race in Georgia this weekend, I bet there would be a good showing next weekend at the Adams Morgan Slalom race. I’m sorry that it happens at the expense of the DC Downhill race, but a slalom race in DC is a slalom race in DC! Gotta get the word out about it on NCDSA and high traffic areas of this site.

I hope we can pull this off. I haven't done any heavy "advertising" in the slalom world, because it hasn't been completely etched in stone. We (Doug and Myself), aren't running the slalom event as that would surely set the sport way back! We need someone to step up and run the slalom event. We will allow you guys to run a slalom race from 9am-12pm and we would run stand-up 12:30-3pm. We still don't know who is going to officiate for us, as Doug and I will be competing. It's all up in the air and we'll see how it lands.

What cross streets is the section of 15th street between? I am not very familiar with the whole Adams Morgan area. What is the closest Metro station, and will there be any parking nearby for the race organizer? Anyone know what kind of courses can be set on that stretch of road? I think this could easily happen, but we need to get it set before this weekend. Brian and I will be leaving for Georgia tomorrow evening and will hash it out / talk with Dave Riordon etc via cell phone / get substitute race organizer if needed / etc on the way there.

Wes, If it's the same 15th Street hill they used at the first DCDC, it is the section of 15th that runs along Meridian Hill (Malcolm X) Park, from just above Chapin St., down through the chicane between Chapin St. and Belmont St. The hill then gets fairly steep until it levels out, crosses the W St. intersection and then makes a right hand turn from southbound 15th onto (I believe) Florida Ave. I could be mistaken though. It could be that the right hand turn was onto W St., but I don't recall it being that abrupt a turn and do seem to recall crossing the intersection. I'm looking for my photos to refresh my memory. Normally, the whole race section of 15th is one-way auto traffic, up the hill.

Hey Andy,

The turn is on New Hampshire Ave, right after W st. The slalom guys could start about 1/2 or 1/3 the way up and make the turn on NH ave to scrub speed. Plus, we can throw together a course down one of the drop streets on Sunday at the festival, just for fun. The ECRW is supposed to be coming and some others. We'll see.

Anthony, That's what I thought I'd remembered (New Hampshire Ave.), but trying to read Mapquest, I think it was listed as Florida.

The hill IS really big for slalom, but there are many things we could potentially do with it. It would be quite difficult to run anything like TS or even "hybrid" on the hill, particularly as a dual set-up. There's just waaay too much hill and the speed would become unmanageable very quickly. This hill as like the hill at last years' Avila Beach GS Worlds, x2. However, the hill could definitely be the venue for a REAL GS. It'd be a great GS hill, and if it's set-up anything like it was in 2000, it may even be wide enough for a true, dual GS. Dual, as has been noted many times, seems to be more spectator friendly, but to use the whole hill for a single-lane GS would ROCK!

I'm not sure what to expect with the slalom race. We haven't really heard from anyone who seems interested (except Wes) and we don't have a timer, so who knows? Maybe they're pissed off from times past. I would hope not. This is a great venue to display the sport of slalom to the masses. Then again, maybe that's the problem. They would no longer be outlaws!! Just wear all black and growl at people, but come RACE!!

For whatever it's worth to the rest of you, Anthony is absolutely correct about this being a great venue at which to showcase slalom skateboarding. I am prepared to be at 15th and New Hampshire N.W., next Saturday. Who else is in? Where's BP with the timer? There are definitely things that we can do with this venue to make the event appear professional and notable to spectators and other by-standers, and if I'm recalling correctly... wasn't that section of 15th repaved recently? I know they repaved (perfect!) the 16th St. hill on the other side of the park, in 2000. It was my understanding that a similar repave was scheduled for 15th. If that's the case... we're talking about a surface better than the Gaithersburg P&R.

Anthony, Are you going to be ordering haybales? We don't necessarily need them for a slalom event, but could use them to set-up some visual stuff around the start and finish areas. Also... what time do they close the road? I seem to recall that the road was closed pretty early in 2000.

The reason I am suddenly so enthused is that I have a very specific recollection of two D.C. councilmen standing beside the course at the 2000 DCDC, and they were sounding quite impressed and amenable to similar events in the future. Let's put slalom on that same stage!

Well, for what it's worth, I'll be there as a body to race: tweaked ankle, lame homemade board, and all. Any ideas where a good place to train for this would be? Anybody up for some training seshes during the week? And is this like full-face helmet and leathers fast hill, or just full pads and hard bushings fast?

And no, slappy, you may not have marek malik. maybe if jagr brought back the aerodynamic hair flaps the caps would have a chance at a post-season.

Thanks for the stoke! You guys could have a blast on that hill. Glad to see Slappy's in, and Rene, you've got to fly the flag for Canada. Anyone who wants to session on Van Dorn this Tuesday or Wednesday with speedboards (or whatever), let me know. It's great training for 15th Street.

We will have some haybales to protect the spectators at the turn. Probably 30-40. We plan on walking the hill one nite this week and if anybody wants to join us, feel free.

Vlad, my fav is the Texas Limo. A big ass F 350 Ford Super Duty Crew cab with the dually rear end(thats 4 rear tires instead of just 2. The Diesel option is rad also. Plenty of room for lumber and little hard wheels. Hope this helps. TK
