[2011] Grenoble World Ride, July 1-2-3 [Major]

Post by Jani Soderhall » Thu Oct 14, 2010 5:02 pm

Philippe Galindo has requested me to to this pre-announcement for Grenoble 2011.

The giant slalom will be held on the same location as 2010. The city wants us back and they have already approved the use of the same road. We'll just need to set a slightly easier (read slower) course for juniors and women. For the higher ranked racers this will be one of the best GS in 2011!

Tight and special will be held at the stadium as in previous years. Probably there will be a complimentary World Record run as well.

The date has now been confirmed as July 1-2-3. (Updated Nov 15, 2010)

It is Philippes desire to make this the European Championships 2011, if so, then it'll automatically get assigned World Cup/Major status. If it's not assigned the title they will still ask for the equivalent of the Main status.

I am glad to announce that the status marshals decided to grant Major status to Grenoble : the Désaxé Worldride #5 will host the European Championships 2011.

It's a real pride for Philippe and his organisation crew : everything is already on for a great event, but this decision give them motivation to work even harder and make of this week-end an highlight of the racing season.

Website and more news will come soon.

I just had Philippe on phone.
Organization is doing good things : there will be a big outside concert near the stadium. 10000 persons are expected and national TVs will be there (because there's something "unique" with this concert).
It will for sure get some more audience and media coverage for the slalom.
He do have full support from grenoble city : there will be 4m*3m posters all around the city and the event will be announce in the city magazine wich will be distributed for free in each Grenoble mailboxes.
As we are Euro Champ' this year, slalom event will move back in front of the scene, just in front of the audience/bleachers.
He expect us to make a great show!
Expect the 2011 website and registration early May.
More infos on fees to come.

All officials infos in the sanction form :
http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/ISSA/ ... n-V1.1.pdf

Giant slalom :
Giant slalom will take place like in 2010 at Saint-Martin le Vinoux, few minuts by car from the city center.
It will start on Friday at noon.
The road is long approx 700m and really fast (approx 11% pitch). Last year was maybe one of the fastest GS we did ever see in Europe. Good level and footbreaking are required.
Security will be increase this year with downhill equipments : strawbales will be setted dangerous points of the race. An easier race will be set up for juniors (and maybe women).

Tight and special slalom:
Tight and special slalom will take place on Saturday and Sunday, as usual, in the “Olympic Speed Ring”, in the heart of Grenoble.
Training will start around 9h30 and competition will start at 11. A large audience will be there to watch for the show, especially for the finals.
Finals will end by 17h. Organizers get the spot for all WE and goton s
The spot is flat, approx. 150 meters long. Surface is near perfect, grippy and fast. In 2010, Janis Kuzminz broke the 50 cones world record on this spot.

50 cones World record attemps
On Saturday approx 17h, after the 1st day finals, junior, men and women will be able to try to break 50 cones WR. Last year, both Junior and Men broke WR on this track. The audience will be waiting for this challenge

As for the Worlds in Canada, the ISSA did decide to help non-european racers to come to the major european event this year.
A 500 dollar purze will be alocated to eligible racers.

The world record attemps against the 50 cones will be put on Saturday evening. Remember last years : 3 records were beat on the very fast and grippy surface of the stadium. Men record, Junior boys and girls records. No doubts this years news records will be set again.

hey guillaume:
just a question and no troubloemaking or anything intended, maybe you just delete what i wrote and answer me privately...
using pictures of any kind of athlete for any kind of event without asking the person in question is either unprofessional or a violation of personal rights.
just imagine the skater would be a total asshole and sue you for using his/her image without any kind of acknowledgement.

this is not smart-ass message, not at all.
but a reminder that, when you do something on that scale, you should make sure all the legagl issues are covered.

i know these things happened often in the past,i just saw the poster and i think it's a good promotion for the sport anyway.just see this as a friendly reminder and maybe next time you just ask the people for authorization and you are on the safe side.

i would applaud if just guillaume replies to me on this issue and its not fit for stirring the pot or anything likewise.

thanks
donald

Don, i think (and hope) there is, included into registration form, what we called in french "droit à l'image" (i do not know how to translate) : it means that skaters give to organizer all rights about pictures/videos taken during the event.

Then, considering the sexy bib Don is wearing on the picture, i am quite sure this pics had be taken during one previous edition :D
So i think there is no legal blame to make against the organizer...

That being said, i am not involved neither in this design, neither in this organisation (i am just giving advices for the race schedule and prize money allocation... i also take my ISSA national coordinator role with diffusing infos about french events) and i fully agree with you if we said that a courtesy email could have been send before...

I'd be interested to know if there are any younger juniors coming to Grenoble. Flavio is about to bring his 9 year old. I'll bring Alexei 11 (will by 12 by then) and Dimitri (12 also). I hope Irene and Zaccaria from Italy are coming too, and Irene could race in the boys/girls category. (born 1998, so turning 13 this year). Anyone else bringing their kids so that we can have a real race for the little ones?

We'll be there only for the Saturday and Sunday. No GS for me or the kids this time around!

Don,

There are 15 on the list so far (but none from Germany!)
More riders coming, but still it seems a bit weak for a European Championships.

Josef,

Great if you come! Just do the PayPal payment. Bring your receipt so that you can show it at sign up, just in case.

For the GS I don't know. I will only come on Saturday morning.
I will bring my boys; one 12 yrs and the other soon 13 yrs. They will be good competition for your son Saturday, Sunday!
We are staying at Hotel Gallia.

Hotel Gallia (7 Boulevard du Maréchal Joffre - 38000 Grenoble), Tél +33 4 76 87 39 21
(Double rooms for around EUR 55-61, possible with extra bed too, so if you are three maybe it's a better solution than the youth hostel. Very close to the contest site).

See you in the weekend!

All I know is:

Straight:

1. Janis Kuzmins, LAT
2. Dominik Kowalski, GER

Viking should be up there in the top too, but Dominik took him out on the way to the finals. Christopher Dupont got good reviews too but I didn't ask for exact results. Hey, it's after midnight and time to put the kids in bed.

Janis has set the course for tomorrow and to avoid any goofy/regular bias the German team then mirrored the other course. Should provide a nice show tomorrow.

The site looks excellent and there's a big concert just next to it. This is one fine race location and Philippe has all aspects covered. This is truly a big race. All good reviews from the guys I've spoken to tonight (Dom, Lindner, Chris, Homer, Kathrin).

Jani

Looking forward to some great racing tomorrow.

Here are the top 5 overall riders (no rumours, even if i'm not a contest official) :

1- Dominik Kowalski, won Giant and Special
2-Janis Kuzmins, won Straight
3- Viking Hadestrand
4- Mika Hadestrand
5- Gustavs Gailitis

And, if I have good memory, in the top 12 stand Robert Thiele, Michel Dupont, Christoph Bauman, Chris Schutz, Joseph Stefka, Viktor Hadestrand and Ferdinand Lindner (more or less in this order).
No turn, no fun.

so here comes the CONGRATS section:
DOM=RULER no training but still the best euro boy out there
MARKUS ROCH we will find a good international nickname for him soon, right now he didn't even complete his first year racing and i heard he already left an impression, people like him too, perfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
FERDINAND LINDNER good new addition to the team,he's out there and hungry
HOMER too much private terror prevents his talent to unfold-it will hppen for sure, sooner or later
KATHRIN she seems to be better among men than racing in the womens league-too much work here too as a major symptom
VINCE hell yeah where have you been hiding?

i hope i forgot nobody from the team, but with no actual information at hand it is hard to tell who was there and who not,i had to make a few calls here and there and finally markus and dom gave me the full story.

maybe things will be better one day and we will get the same speed and accuracy regarding race info as IGSA does it-right now it is not the case and that is very frustrating.
steve pederson did an excellent job from the american side with the help of a few good friends, things are falling apart over here again, very sad to see that.
i do not understand why it is like that,we live in the age of wireless communication and there are memory sticks available too if you want to transport info.
the weekend is over and the promotional aspect of the race has not been fulfilled,in grenoble for sure i heard, but the rest of the world remains uninformed.
i am sure criticism will follow my post, but i stand for what i said here!!!!!!!!!!
more than disappointing.

Don't be sorry Guillaume. You're not normaly in charge of this; but as nobody from the Desaxe is in charge of it well you become the responsable. Thanks to do it, and thanks to support criticisms.
Don Agree with you about results,, but as long as it will be done by amateur staff which do that for free, taking time on their family life and work, it will be difficult to do better (specially in Grenoble because Desaxe organisation don't look after the results).
PS : I think they still are waiting the IGSA results of streetluge and classic in Maryhill.

Guillaume!! waiting the giant result! the only race I wasn't ridiculous!! ;-)

thanks again to be time setter, speaker, informatician, electrician, responsable of the result... haha Desaxe rules!

so you mean that guillaume has to play the scapegoat now pierre?
hahahaha
he doesn't deserve that for sure
but let me ask you this:is desaxe the organizer of the race of how is this whole gig split up?

somebody has to be in charge and hold the reponsibility, who is that main person who delegates the tasks?
i heard grenoble was good but then again only for grenoble.
if we don't manage to spread the word like others do,the number of participants and the general interest will dwindle more and more.
it is already lower than before thanks to the stone age homepage we have and if nobody is interested in feeding it with news it won't catch
any interest in the sport by its viewers.
the french page guillaume is running looks way better than what we have here.
then again there needs to be a structure for news.
i bet a lot of people wanted to know the results over the weekend
but if you want to see results you have to visit the igsa page-they know how to do it the right way

dang big bummer again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know the homepage of IGSA. Nice victory of Ramon in downhill and good report. But luge and classic are not available till now! For sure presentation before, during and after the event is very important. The particularity of Grenoble which is a very good "gliss sport event" is that it's not only a slalom skate race and for sure Philippe don"t say clearly who are doing what and this can make some small problem for us. I'm sure will have a nice report on Guillaume french internet site very soon.

Hey Donald I'm looking for a large slalom truck for my giant board. What it's the maximum size of a GOG? thanks for your answer

i support the main responsability of what happen in grenoble.
This year, as a national coordinator for ISSA, i offered Philippe (main organizer) to help him about pre-race communication and organisation.
Erika and Jani was suppose to be more on the time keeping
Pierre was helping on course setting
Lydie was responsible of cone judges team.
Desaxe is just organizer of the main event : they provide road closure, and all ammenities (food, electricity, ramps, stage ...), but race direction still in the hand of the riders and i take most of the main decisions about the race...
So i am the guy to blame :D

Erika did a fantastic job this WE, i really want to thanks her !!!
But as Jani's son broke his arm on friday, Jani was missing friday and saturday (with his laptop, Seismic spreadsheets and many other electronic stufs), so i have to deal also time keeping and others things with Erika.

I did try to get some feedback from the racer on each day.
I know some things get wrong : no laptop on friday, schedule non respect, especially on saturday
That was not what people can expect from a major race!
But i also get some positive feedback from riders , hopefully :)
Please go on with constructive feedback!

I personnaly think Cut 32 for finals is not a good solution : really long and boring for audience, time eater for organisation
Even open, main and major race must focus on top racers and use a cut 16.
My mistake again...

About the communication issue, i just do not own any smartphone allowing me to post internet things during the weekend...
but this issue seems to be easy to fix for the future

anyway, i really want to THANkS ALL RIDERS.
Even with all this work, i do have a excellent WE : it was a pleasure to see old slalom friends and to meet new riders from Germany, Russia, and others...
You all provide a great show!

ok, stop the blablabla... please wait a little for complete giant results, overall, pictures and media coverage!

no news on the frontpage,it is thursday already.
the positive promotional aspect of the event got lost on its way
what is a start page good for, when nobody gives a shit about it.

we just had the euros-the supposedly biggest contest in europe this year and there is nobody from the elected side who cares about it

i just want to let you know-if you ever read this-again this is also highly questionable-that there are a lot of riders out there who are very disappointed
in the weak support they receive from the issa.
thank you again for everybody who posts up something/anything

issa:baddest show on earth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
