The return of the old format has already prompted heavy useage once again on the UK forum. Simple single thread forums really are the best way of keeping in touch on a local or regional basis (well it works well for us in the UK anyway) and NCDSA services us well. We have tried a single thread style forum via Chatroll, set up by Sam, on the UKSSA site. However it lacks the features offered to us by Adam.

As I have said earlier on NCDSA it feels "like putting a comfy pair of slippers on - or a pair of well worn Vans". Thank you Adam

The "old" NCDSA is back again

Post by Jani Soderhall » Sun Jan 23, 2011 10:26 am

Even I went there to encourage him on the switch back to the old format. I have long been thinking of adding a NCDSA like topic to SlalomSkateboarder.com but in the last few years I haven't done any programming at all on this site, so it never happened. Now we're in development mode again, so I'll look into the options for it, but not really to replace NCDSA. Just make it a better Daily Banter maybe.

The big difference between us and NCDSA is that NCDSA is now again open to anyone without signing up first. Here you still have to sign up. I think that's OK for us, because it's less of a chatroom and meant to be more structured.

Coming up this fall my new title will be "Grandpa" -- that's right, my son and his wife will be having a baby this fall.

Maybe ISSA should have a "Grandpa" class?

North American Status Marshall Update

Post by Steve Pederson » Tue Feb 01, 2011 3:00 am

There are so many different sections on this forum I have no idea where this should be posted. - Jani, please move this if there is a better place for it.

I want racers and race organizers know some things are happening. Lynn Kramer and I have joined on as North American Status Marshalls. We are working with JBH and Fatboy to contact race organizers and sort out ISSA status assignments for MAIN and PRIME races. The Board of Directors will decide on the World Championship assignment.

The BOD and EU Status Marshalls have revised the race application and created a status guide - listing the differences between the different levels of races.

We've sent race applications to organizers we know are interested in hosting races. If anyone else is interested in hosting a race and would like to receive an ISSA status assignment, please contact us or post somewhere on this forum. I have no idea which section that should be. Maybe someone can tell us.

Hopefully all the applications will be submitted promptly and the details can be worked out so the status assignments can be announced soon.

Anyone interested in racing or hosting races should read the ranking rules here:
http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/slalomranking/mvc.php
This will explain how the system works so you aren't surprised at the end of the season and you don't have as many points as you thought you should have.

One important thing to note is that to collect PRO points, at least 8 PROs or more have to participate in a race. If only 5 PROs show up, no one collects PRO level points that day. If North American racers don't collect more PRO points, the Europeans will dominate the rankings. So encourage all your Pro friends to attend more races. Encourage your AM friends to get better and move up to PRO so we have more PRO racers. Maybe at the races, Pros can give technique and equipment advice to the AMs so they get better and help the sport grow. Many have helped me. Thanks. AMs need to speak up and ask PROs for advice. I do this at every race.

I know the current BOD is working on things. Maybe cutting down on so many topic sections? :-)
They will probably give us an update soon.

Thank you.

I'm maybe not the one for big annoucements, but we owe you a report on the ongoing action. Been busy pulling strings to get the right things going, so with this post I just want to assure you that things are actually happening.

- Making sure the ranking is finalized was the first comittment. Corky has been working in overdrive to make that happen.
- Assigning status marshals for US, Brazil and Australia. EU assignments were done in November already.
- Getting the status marshals set up and working
- Getting a new sanction document and guidelines out

I won't list it all here, because this is just the daily banter but we are confident that we are on the right track for this year!

Moving this train along

Post by Steve Pederson » Mon Feb 07, 2011 3:36 pm

The North American Status Marshals are working on assigning status levels for races. We have assigned MAIN to the Texas Sizzler and PRIME to the Oregon State Games.

Even though we know other races are planned and set. We are just waiting for the applications to be submitted.

Right now there are two bids for hosting the World Championships. Ottawa, Canada and Antrim, New Hampshire. If anyone else is interested in hosting the race, please speak up soon.

Ottawa is checking to see if they will have permission for their first choice hill. and Antrim is checking to see if the school dorms will be available.

Some of the things we are considering are:

- Timing in calendar
- Conflict with other races
- Attendance expected
- Quality of race location
- History of organization
- Accommodations
- Audience
- Travel

The Marshalls will give their recommendations to the Board of Directors and the BOD will make the final decision.

Thanks Donald.

Actually we're not posting enough for everyone to see, and we should improve on that soon. The reason is that there are two new restricted access forums at the site, one for the board members and one for a working group including ranking administrator(s), status marshals, national status coordinators and other volunteers to the ISSA. We've been busy in those forums and we should have made more annoucements available. It's coming!

It looks like there are five Pros signed up for the Texas Sizzler MAIN status race. We need few more so the Pros can collect Pro level points and stay competitive with the Europeans in the rankings. 8 Pros are needed.

Rick stepped up this year. I might. Lou? Lou and I usually race neck and neck. Anyone else?

Lou's steppin' up this year - whether he knows it yet or not. :-)

And I count seven pro-types so far: Pederson, Statman, Price, Kosick, Joe Mac, Richy and Ducati Globetrotter "Zak" Supercharger Venomboy. And it's still early in the game. Yee haw!

The North American status marshals have done their best to gather up info and discuss the pros and cons between the possible locations for hosting Worlds. We have made our recommendations. Now the Board of Directors will make the final decision.

Peter,

Good job! It's a very impressive list.

Here's a few recent confirmed status assignments:

Ottawa: MAJOR
Texas: MAIN
Oregon State Games: PRIME
Wisconsin Wiggle War: PRIME

Désaxé should say European Championships too, if you can fit it in.

Hmm, why are only two events showing up on the front page of slalomranking.com?

Thanks!

Fronpage events are fixed now,
I don't have the Database rights to change candidate status to official status (except for the East Atlantic Regions (talk with Corky please).

Rumor has it that the Colorado racers have been doing some slalom riding as well as downhill riding. There's also talk of several new guys coming out and running only about a second slower than Gary Fluitt on their first time riding slalom.

And what about this guy? He claims he's on Team OTC (Off The Couch), but I have my doubts. I show here some recent evidence that Dave Pirnack isn't quite as out of practice as he claims. Will the real Dave Pirnack please stand up - or sit back down?

What are you fuel this guy with? Nuclear-stuff?

He was great during the Worlds in Czech......not so fast in the start, but after some cones he put in some magic power and just force his way forward.....and win.

Check out the rst of the Sizzler photos here:

It seems Aria's strobelight got blown over by the wind & the back plate cracked & bent a bit, and the power plug got dislodged so buy his photos so he can get it fixed!
