Seeking a volunteer to create the 'Conehead Manifesto'

Post by Pat Chewning » Thu Feb 14, 2008 9:46 am

I would like the ISSA to produce a guide to give out to our cone judges and race organizers. Something written that shows them what cone judging is all about, how to do it, what is expected of them, and how the racers and officials rely on them.

It should cover (among other things):
1) Why are we counting the cones?
2) Signals to give to the head cone judge.
3) Safety (LOOK UPHILL!)
4) When is the cone in, when is it out? (Diagrams?)
5) What is a DQ? How to signal this.

You could start here with this guide for ski-racing gate judges:
http://www.bssef.com/bssef_weblog/files ... judges.pdf

Of course, the ISSA racing rules should also be used as a resource:
http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/ISSA/ ... S-2008.pdf

You could research some of the methods currently being used. (European methods vs N. American methods -- both of which are valid.)

It MIGHT be expanded to include suggestions for race organizers:
How to find, train, reward, and retain cone judges for races.

Cone judging is so important, yet many races and race organizers struggle in this area.

If you can help with this, volunteer here.

It would be great to have someone working on this by the end of February 2008, and with a draft by the end of March 2008.

CAN I PLEASE GET A VOLUNTEER?[/u]

Here's what I have included in our cone judge booklets that we use at all races.
Texts in the booklets are in both English and French.

I need to do a set of new booklets for the 2008 season, so if there's a need for a change of these texts I'll use the new stuff.
