2008 World Championships - when is it?

Post by Marcus Rietema » Thu Oct 04, 2007 10:17 pm

Has the date been set for the 2008 World Championships yet in Gothenburg? If at all possible I would like to ensure that it doesn't conflict with any of our IGSA World Cup Downhill events. We are in the process of finalizing our 2008 schedule so now is time for us to work on this.

Hey Marcus!

Thanks for finally taking care of this! I just checked the IGSA 2007 worldranking and found myself on rank 50 :-)

Looking forward to next year's DH races!

Hey Ramon! Great seeing you in Statesville! I want to ensure that skaters like you can crossover and do both downhill and slalom without have to pick which event you want to attend. Congratulations on your rank of 50th! Looking forward to seeing you at a lot more races next year!

The exact date for the Gothenburg event may not have been set yet, but I heard talks of August. Also, the location hasn't been set yet, although Gothenburg may be one of the stronger candidates. Wadsten, Klock, Emrik and Hadestrand are the main guys, so if anyone of them responds they should have the accurate info.

I, also, would like to start planning for the 2008 season.

I'm looking forward to the posting of dates.
Hopefully Brixleg & the World's will be a week apart, so all us travelers can attend both!

I'd better work on getting a passport, huh?

We have an IGSA World Cup event already confirmed in Thalgau, Austria July 23-26. Another event is pending for Aug 1-3 on a different continent. I'm trying to get it moved to Aug 8-10. If I'm successful the ideal date for the Slalom World's would be Aug 1-3. This way downhill/slalom racers like Ramon, Siegrist, Von Glasow, etc could race in both Austria and Sweden on consecutive weekends. It would be silly to schedule our races on top of each other. Two years ago the Slalom Worlds and Downhill Worlds were in Switzerland on the same weekend in different locations. This was due to a lack of communication. I want to avoid a similar scenario if at all possible. The Downhill Worlds are scheduled for Aug 26-31 in Maryhill, Washington.

i have a set date for the brixlegg invitaionals aug 1-3
sweden will try to place their contest before or after brixlegg.
brixlegg won't really interfere with any dh contest, only ramon might be affected.
and i said might...

Hopefully I'll hear from the organizers in Sweden soon so we don't end up with a conflict. Dom told me he plans to race some downhill next year... Martin Siegrist complained to me last year about the conflict. I would like to skate at the Slalom World's again too so I guess that makes at least four of us who could be affected. I'm sure there are others... Both slalom and downhill would really benefit from some increased crossover....

Marcus,

Is there any IGSA race in Sweden 2008? Will it fit into the ISSA schedule?

Yep for sure, we miss Bettina! ;)
An other example: Shrek aka Cedric Burel (downhillers know him as he won races on both sides of the Atlantic) is back in Slalom racing.

The IGSA Scandinavian Championships will be held May 23-25 in Falköping, Sweden.

We have three European World Cup races in the three weeks preceeding the Slalom World's. They are:

July 9-12 Peyragudes, France
July 16-19 Jungholz, Germany/Austria
July 23-26 Thalgau, Austria

I will be traveling with a crew by rail from the final race in Austria to Gothenburg. We plan to arrive in Gothenburg on July 31st.

Is there any info on accommodations yet? I'm traveling up to Gothenburg with a group of six. We are hoping to find something low cost (budget hotel, hostel) that is near the racing venue. In what part of the city is the event being held? We'll be arriving by train from Kobenhavn on Aug 31. Looking for info because I want to make reservations and establish the trip budget. Thanks!
