Post by Ramón Königshausen » Mon Apr 30, 2007 10:05 pm

Since there hasn't been an offical announcement of this event but though it has already been posted and sanctionned in the Event Calendar section
( viewtopic.php?t=4427 and
http://www.slalomskateboarder.com/ISSA/ ... a-AUG4.doc) , I'd like to open a thread for the "Slalom World Cup Policka Czech Republik".

So in the Sanction Form is mentioned that transport from Prague airport to Policka is possible.

Could anyone give us some details? I'm planning to arrive Friday 3rd of August, 12:50 and leave on Monday August 6, 13:20.

I'll be advertising your Event in Switzerland to get some more people up there!

Great to hear about contests in Czech republic. Slalomers in CZ have good traditions.
I participated in Policka 20 years ago and I remember Josef Stefka, Honza Smolik and good others riders.
Very strong Czech slalomers will be in 20 year Anniversary for European championships in Prague. There are rumors that Martin Kopecky (first AES president) organize big party and contest for people who participate in Euroskate in Prague in 1988.

European Champs in Prag 1988.

That is very sentimental for me. It was my farewell to skateboarding at the time. My skate energy had run out. It lasted until 1992 when I got dragged into the slalom scene by Jani. In Prag I was some kind of a team captain for the swedish team. In slalom Jani took gold. :-) I was a flatland freestyle judge. Stefean "Lillis" Akesson, the swedish flatland champ, still reminds me of this event now and then beacuse I made him miss the final in favor of Rudi Matter (Switzerland). But when knowing how happy Rudi was about this and that Lillis has got his share of victories through the years I think it was a good choice. Sorry Lillis! :-D

I remember Prag back then. It was still quite poor and we brought along sugar and stuff to give a way. :-) Everything was so cheap and we felt like kings. The liquor was also very cheap, unfortunatly. I had one of my worst hangovers ever in Prag. That's how it goes with home made liquor. I remember having breakfast with Nicky Guerrero and my hands where shaking. If I remember well Jani did not do very well with the Champagne either after his victory. Not even the Champagne you could trust. ;-) Claus Grabke and his band was playing at the farewell party. Thise where the days...

Much have changed in Prag since thos days. I guess it is now just as expensive as anywhere else in European big cities.

No... Prague is still cheap, especially compared to Sweden...
Last time I went, your pint of Pilsner was between 0.50 and 1 euro depending on where you were in the city...

Hi,
Prague is about 150 km from Policka, BUT, there will be lot of fun at the place!!! Skate contests in this town were always super, slaloms runs are in the middle of town, crowded by hundreds of spectators. And evenings are always well organized, this year there should be some parties with concerts etc... Be sure to come to check it all: good skating, big prize money, the best Czech beer, girls and parties!!! See you, Tomas

Questions regarding Sunday’s race.

How far is it from the competition area to the airport?
How much time do I need to get there?
My plane leaves at 19.00 hour, when should I leave to race to make my flight?

I would love to attend but must be home by midnight.

Yours fastest

A question:
Will the special slalom turn around the plaza like on the video??
and could we have more information about the pavement?

I hope our booking wil be OK (strange things with the internet travel agency)
I'm really looking forward to discover Czech Republique

Great I suppose 11:00 is perfect for us, as we arrive from Paris around 10:15 and Ramon 10:40.
Just have to get our bags, perhaps change euros to local money and find you.

Do you have a special meeting point where we could easily find you? (edit: ok we'll probably see you in front of the airport on the parking)

Hum.. yes we didn't book anything yet. Thinking about Opus because it seems most penzions are full...

Some impressions

Post by Ramón Königshausen » Tue Aug 07, 2007 1:08 am

So I'm back from Czech Republic and once again it was worth travelling east!
Let me share a few impressions from the weekend:

Official shuttle from Prague Airport to Policka - great!

A real special Special Slalom on the town square - No head to head and some say it might have favoured regular footed racers....
I had the fastest raw time but, fortunately for Dominik, too many cones - that's racing!
Best goofy footed racer was Luca on 4th place....

The GS hill was pretty much okay. Good Surface.
Well chosen for spectators on the main road of Policka.
Some gates were maybe too wide so it cost real effort too carry the speed down to the finish line.

I don't make a comment about the Straight Slalom.
I think you all know what my idea towards "flat 1.80" is....

Then the Big Bait that lured half a dozen Pro's from the west:
€6000 prize money did not turn out to be 6000 Czech krowns!
And this was not paid by the racers since the entry fee was only €30 (€50 if you registered after deadline).
It was great effort to get such good sponsors for the first (prime) race for years, well done!

For some the beer price and delicious food (mmmh, fried duck in honey marinade!) might have been sort of a bait too...
...but actually I don't think so....Paul Price didn't show up...strange...English sportsman, you missed that race, where have you been? ;-)

I'm glad to have travelled to Policka. I enjoyed to be in good company with Vincent, Partick, Luca, Dominik, Silvio, Janis, Salvis, Gints&Sons.
And it was great to meet new old faces from Czech Republic!
They are back again, you better watch out! (Josef Stefka got 4th in GS - Congrats!)

Also special congratulations to Janis: 3rd place in GS - his best GS result ever!

Then I certainly need to thank the organisation.
Good schedule and nice services! Maybe a bit too less English during announcements to the racers....we should've been introduced in a few things maybe.
Anyways, for some reasons I will learn a little Czech for when I will come back next year ;-)

Czech out the Results

As far as I remember there has been a list with the exact spread but right now I can't find it. What I've found is this: PRO – total amount 6000 EUR for the first three in each discipline
First ten in overall standing count

I'll try to reconstruct it:

Disciplines:
1st €300 - 2nd €200 - 3rd €100

(3x600=1800)

Overall:
1st €600 - 2nd €500....

Can't make the calculation...that's what I know. I'll see tomorrow...

Overall top three:

1st Dominik
2nd Ramón
3rd Janis

back from this last summer's holiday i've seen what a success Policka got.

First of all it's a great coming back hystorical scene, with all the old friends (Jiry,Thaomas,Joseph,Martin thay several times came to World Cup Italy)and probably next ones too, but first of all the feeling of good images, organisations, partnerships well done and a lot of institutional and industrial cosponsor that will be able to have for this edition a special prizes for all the classes.

Hope to have time to come back with us all next time

Here in Italy we are working hard to have a great happening with a new generation of slalomers, working with wintersports and cyclist Fed. for Londra 2012

my best to everybodies for the next Eurochamps
