Are they following the lead of the Oregon signees and just playing around a bit? If not this is going to be one screaming Saturday.

Thanks Paul. I appreciate update since I am running registration on this deal.

St. Louis Crew: If you could let me know if this is legit or not I would appreciate it. This was planned to be a low key event but if we have that many people coming we do need to make some more detailed plans....

Thanks.

Marion, I can tell you for sure that I'm not coming--unless that tanker truck of stoke fuel somehow changes into a tanker truck full of money and extra vacation days, and you pay for everyone's plane tickets to get there!

Would I like to be there? Sure. But those signups were, um, fanciful at best. Have fun, y'all.

Chainsaw, go stand in the corner. :-)

I just wanted to let everybody know my surgeon said he wanted me to wait at least another month before I start running cones. I will start back in the first part of March. The total healing time for my surgery is 6 months which will be the beginning of May. I will have some boards to ride since, I will be seeing Sparky this weekend to pick up my trucks.
See everybody in Athens.

WEATHER UPDATE> BAD NEWS ABOUT TRADE STREET

Post by Marion Karr » Fri Feb 17, 2006 2:21 pm

IMPORTANT WEATHER UPDATE:

According to the www.weather.com:

Cloudy. Some light rain is likely. Colder. High 46F. Winds ENE at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70%. Rainfall near a quarter of an inch.

Looking at the radar and weather map it appears tomorrow is going to be a BUST on Trade Street. I talked with Marty and he is in agreement that we should call it off for tomorrow.

Tucker, Tom, Keith, Ron, everyone, post on here and let us know your thoughts. I am so bummed.

I will get a hold of the Carolina DHB's and call Keith. Does everyone agree this is the best decision?

Not looking good for sure. Every report I've checked is bad.

Might I suggest we do this next Sat. 2/25? Looking at the contest calender, Keith is the only one of our group signed up for Texas, and he wasn't going to race this weekend anyway.

Well, my thoughts are the same as Marion's. And even postponing til Sunday looks iffy at best. It's going to be a wet weekend and wet all week.

Y'all can reschedule it for next week, but I can't make it. Tickets to Austin Texas, you know. Then, after that is MAYBE the Backwoods Blast in DC. (You know, that whole thing if O'Shei and Olson come into town and Ohm's ankle gets better.) If y'all reschedule for March 4, I would probably decide whether to head north or south depending on the weather.

Then on the 11th some people are heading to Columbus, Ohio. The following weekend is March 18 and I don't think anything is going on. Then after that is the Down Here Retreat.

So here's MY schedule:

Feb 25 - Texas

Mar 4 - MAYBE DC

Mar 11 - Open (but others going north to Ohio.)

Mar. 18 - open

Mar 25 - Down Here Retreat

Y'all know me: if there's a race and I ain't doing anything, I'm there.

March 18th should work for me....If for some reason I can not make it I will send my timing system down.

Ok, should we make this official? I can move it on the contest calendar later today.

There is no reason to make people drive hundreds of miles to stand on a wet hill. Let's move it and we can make do with who's there.

If it is on the weekend of March 18, I will be unable to attend. The 37th Annual NHRA Gator Nationals in Gainesville, Florida are March 16-19. I will be at the drag strip with Mark all day for 4 days. I will have just started running cones by then.

I talked it over with Michelle and we are not going to come up to Athens. I just looked at the weather and it said sat-hi-47-wind/rain and for sun-hi-44-rain/SNOW SHOWERS. I was going to visit my niece(UG student) and my sister, but no snow for me. Sat in FL will have a high of 77.

I do want to go to Trade St. in April sometime. The only race I know of is Kenny's(4/8/06). The next race in the US I know of is Luna Slalom Jam(5/6/06). May thru Sept. will be pretty busy for me.

protect and serve

I arrived on the hill at 10:30 to find Patio, Low J, Quint and Byron taking practice runs.

We threw down a loose but fast course and went at it.

It started to rain very lightly at 12:30, by that time we all had several timed runs.

1. Jeff "Low J" Lyvers USA
2. Rick "66" Stanziale USA
3. Patio Mendino, USA
4. Byron Hall, USA
5. Paul Patterson, USA
6. Quint Lumpkin, USA
7. Chris Bradley, USA

Low J is just plain ol' fast. He finished ahead of Keith Hollien on Trade in 2004. He doesn't own a slalom board, always borrows an Ick from me. (If there was any schwag donated to this event, can someone make sure Low J gets a board?).

We had an impromptu downhill after the slalom race, the road was barely wet and very safe.

1. 66
2. Byron
3. Quint (luge style)

Thanks to everyone for showing up and racing, you make it happen. Six of the racers were from Athens, Paul is from Alabama.

Piedmont Park banked slalom next Sunday sounds like it's gonna be huge!!!

Marion Karr wrote:66, Patio, and the other locals in Athens held the race yesterday with what they had. They started at 10 am and it was raining by 11:30 am. It appears we made the right decision not to travel.

At this point, from my perspective, I do not believe that we will be scheduling another race at Trade Street. There was some miscommunication about the use of that hill that has now been called into question and out of respect for the people involved I will not be part of planning an event for that location. Anyone interested in putting on something there should get in touch with 66.

Look foward to seeing you all on a hill somewhere later this spring.
All I know is mother nature kept me from making the drive up yesterday...something that can't be controlled. I was bummed.....I'm still bummed. I don't know anything about any miscommunication? Big hill, lots of skaters stoked on going fast, a date set for doing just that?.....all duckies were in a row in my book.....Anyway, it's only outlaw racing, fun, recreation....Rick, glad y'all were able to do a little something...home field advantage. Did I mention it's only outlaw racing?.....
