Hey Mike,
I hear that hill is steeper and faster than WLAC. Did I hear correctly that you've been practicing up there with Charlie Ransom? How would you compare that course to any of the hills that the FCR races were run on?
As you get a list of RSVP's let us know here who is showing up.
It is on my calendar. Could I come up there sometime in January and try the hill? I don't know any place near as steep as WLAC where I can put down some cones to practice.

Hey Glenn,
I haven't ridden here with Charlie, but I have been riding an exact replica of his championship winning Ick deck. So far, Chicken, Richy, and Attilla are in. Come up and ride this Saturday morning, I think some of the boys are coming up to practice, and I'll be there for sure.

Oh, Glenn
As far FCR courses, think Tahoe, or La Costa or Avila but with the offsets pulled Way in.
Long, fast, good traction. Did I mention Fast? By the way there is a place I just found there to set up mellower courses if desired. The big hill is a screamer, no lie.

Thanks for the picture's Maria. Sure looks fast. Even though we don't have hills like that here and mostly run slalom or Tight, GS is my favorite type of slalom racing. Can't wait. See you soon, TK

Oh sh!t.

This hill reminds me of the roads we chose in the Mummy Mnt areas of Paradise Valley, Arizona.

Desert Jewel racing with cones!

Yeah, good stuff. Thanks for posting the pictures Maria, hope to have more about this race and this sort of racing here.

Remember, we have a "magazine" [slalom!] and articles are welcome and will receive front page press. Contact Jani if anyone is interested as this is the sort of stuff we are DEFINATELY looking for.

adam - jani - slalom!

Mike,
Is there anyway that you could describe the course better? Cone spacing, how many cones, hill steepness?
Thanks
PS. oh yeah, and how about the chair lift running back to the top

Thanks for posting those pictures Maria. Even that overview shot doesn't show the whole hill. Between 40 and 50 cones, wide open GS, but the offsets are makeable. Basically the top of the course is lightning fast, and then you've got to figure out a way to haul it all in to make the corners as you near the bottom of the steep chute. Going slow, the course is quite makeable. At speed, you may be having an intimate conversation with God by the bottom. I'm sorry there is no shuttle bus, Glenn, but the repeated trek back up helps to build the kind of iron thighs and calves needed to hold a line at these speeds. This place is not for beginners or kids. Safety gear is highly recommended, leather not a bad idea at all.

WOW! I'm frickin' scared of JPL and I haven't even been there....Looks real fast and sick. I'm gonna try and make it. Definetly at lower speed first until I can run it clean. It sure looks like a fast one! Thanks (I think?) Mike Gorman-for putting this together.

Hegstrom-I seen you go face first into a curb at 35+ at Blackhill, You should have no fear of anything after that little stunt. You'll be fine, just think of it as a longer cemetary run.

GUERRILLA ROAD REPAIR

Armed with trowels, brushes and sponges, we loaded buckets of cement dyed with black house paint pigment to match the road onto old beat up kicktails and rolled them past the locked gate and down the JPL hill. We filled in all the potholes we could get to, then went back home and mixed more cement. We went back and fixed the bottom half of the road, making the lip at the concrete water crossing into a smooth little rise.
NOW,
WE GOT RUNOUT!
Not to mention all kinds of future course setting options. Suicide steep tight racing coming up.

MG -- now that's dedication! I'm sure you guys are really gonna miss those "boulders" (blocking the pot holes) toward the finish line though. ha ha

Do you think that "technology" would work for WLAC?

I wish. To me the issue at WLAC is the reflectors, man hole covers, narrow width of the road surface, outrageous roughness of the street, etc. There really aren't holes to speak of, just other problems.

Ok we got some major players signed up for this thing now, like World Champion Chicken, Series Points Champ Paul Dunn, Hackett, and even TA, (assuming that's not some joke).
I think we have representation from most of the major teams like SSS, Roe, Turner, La Costa Boys, Ick, and Black Leather.

Maria -

Thanks for the filming you do; video, stills, computer stuff, updating-posting, and reporting, and for supporting my brother Richy, {THE BROWN BOMBER} in his endeavors!

Someone said- "Behind every great man, is a great woman"- -
....hey, that's you Maria!

Sorry, I couldn't make it to JPL - Bobby Joe {BIG BUFORD] had a BIG Bowling Tournament, and he wanted me to watch him.
I get a big kick out of watching "THE OTHER" Carrasco Brother rip up the bowling alleys !

We all gotta hit "Lobster Village" again sometime !

........-Rene' "Flying" Carrasco Brother.
