[2005] Paris Slalom World Cup - Online News ;)

Post by Vincent Berruchon » Sat May 14, 2005 1:21 am

The competion begin tomorrow, I'll try go give you some fresh news during the next days.

The last good news is that the spot is ready.
It should have been wet this friday but finally the rain began only after 20:00.
Rain is menacing tomorrow but it should be nicer after that... and perhaps we could race in the evening if it's dry enough and everybody OK.

Image See Ramon training in the late evening on the AM special slalom course.

I got a cold at the begining of the week, but I could train a little bit at the end of the day ;)

I'll try to get you some fresh news and pictures

But now the show must go on!

Quick report of the day (I'm so tired...):
We wake up with the rain on.
Image

but luckily the rain stopped in the beginning of the afternoon.
Races could start quite late, but yes it was a real racing day like we were all waiting for!

Image

The competition level seems to be higher and higher every year
and from 16:00 to the night we could enjoy great races on the 2 meters tight slalom.

Anders Helquist, one of the best amateur lst year, against Luca Gianmarco

After hard struggles, M.Dong (USA) get to the final against Luca (ITA).
But one more time Luca won!
He is the first to win the 500$ from the Radikal Challenge.
G.Fluitt (USA) 3rd
K.Mollica (USA) 4th

Image

For the AMs: Heiko Scholler (GER) won, B.Weber (SWI) is second
B.Jackman(USA) 3rd
M.Molhmann(Ger) 4th
and I am 5th (I have to train my chrono start :( )

Complete results here:

I hope I will be able to give more news tomorrow:
Sunday -> Special Slalom and Slide Contest

(But now it's ever time to go to bed and I still got some stuff to prepare for next races)

01:00 After session is still on!

Great day under the sunshine here in Paris - I got "nice" protections sunstroke!!!
Special Slalom was incredible.

Luca first again
and Paul Price is second, first after Luca ;)
Jason Mitchell did a great first on qualification times and third,
black four for D.Hackett.

I fall down in a late after session session, got to check that and go to sleep.
See you tomorrow!

Thank you John!
I cannot do as much as I wanted because days are long, I try to race and help on organization, but also to meet and celebrate with most of skate brothers who came on our hill... so I came back at home late and tired.

But this last day was incredible:
Giant Day

Rain came and went so many times... the Pro race was near to be cancelled.

Image

Hopefully Trocadero slopes dry really quickly, and all the pros get their two runs.

We -amateurs- were quite lucky. The rain stop us one time but not for long time.
For me it has been a crazy day... Giant was my race but I really did a bad first run. I probably went in the race too hard too early; even if it was the best raw time of the first AM round I really hit too many cones (6 x 0.2s! = +1.2s)!!
Heiko Scholler took the head one more time
So before my second run I was 16th but I don't know how, I just did the second one like I wanted to do it: clean and fast. Wooooooow

AM results:
1st Vincent Berruchon (Fra)
2nd Heiko Scholler (Ger)
3rd Florian Lombardo (Fra)

Rain made tricky jokes to pros, raining-drying-raining-drying....
But they did their two runs after all and it was great!
Big show!

Jason Mitchell was the man of the hill today! (1Mo Aninated Gif)</A>

I can be wrong but I think that Chris Hart got 2nd, Ramon 3rd and Kenny 4th.

I really want to thanks Riderz and all the people that help to make this competition happened.
They had hard times and so many problems, but it was really an unforgettable weekend.
Good racing, good sessions, good times, good friends.
It was so good to see all of you on our little hill, I wish we will see you back soon with those that missed it, next year I hope.

Yeah, Paris was a real blast.
Great courses, perfect organization, lot´s of fun beside the racing (belgian Duvel beer really IS special).
I really don´t think it was coincidence that Donald and me were racing in the tight qualification together.
It was a good thing: It really helped pushing me and made me ride my best quali placement (22.) of the contest, even if this is my most disliked discipline.
But the best thing about it was that after this race it was easy to settle our dispute and concentrate on the sport and fun again.

This goes out to Richy: Illegal training, eh?

Great weekend guy, thank you a lot! :-D

One thing to critisize: The Prize giving was only down to 5th place and not like last year down to 8th place....who cares....

BLR: Shut up and ride.
Thanks Dave for teaching...gna.

oh....the fastest run w/o couting cones was mine....just half a second faster than the rest....these §ç#¬ cones...
