It's the stock Bennett axles which are pretty good and straight. Mine measure at 7.97mm...

Hey Stéphane, what are you using for the pivot on these trucks? Most of the pivots I have found have a small flat spot on the top of the ball and these don't appear to have that.

The main issue I am having is finding a ball stud that is completely round, most manufacturers that I've talked to so far all produce theirs with a small flat section on the top of the ball.

What size of the ball stud would fit Bennetts?

Thomas, Bennett Trucks have always been good-steering trucks with a 'deep' turn, due in part to the axle height in relation to the bushing-ring and pivot. So, a 'modded' Bennett will turn in quicker, and with less 'twist' (torque against the pivot point) using a ball-pivot, and the narrower axle (also 8mm, not 5/16") gives a quicker response, and the tighter tolerance (8mm) value between the bearings and axle added response feel + grip.

Personally, I'd opt for using Lazer, Energy, or Proccer trucks to modify, but these are long out of production, rare-ish finds that are better used as collector's/vintage trucks. Others do come to mind, such as American Magnesium, Force, Megatron, ACS, California Slalom, and GullWing's early 'Pro' series. But alas, time marches forward, leaving good "old" ideas behind.

Bennett is one of two truck companies making pre-1980 styled trucks, the other being Tracker, which unfortunately hasn't renewed it's 'small pivot' Original Trackers, which are still one of the best trucks for Slalom ever made. These retro designs have finally been eclipsed by trucks like Asphalt Playground, Airflow, Turner/3DM TTC, Seismic, Radikal, and G.O.G., but it took 20+ years.

Thomas, also take note of Wes T.'s query in the 'general truck' discussion arena. It kinda fills in a few gaps in the process of 'fixing' a production truck's inevitable inadequacies. When I note deficiencies, Gus Trucks come immediately to mind; Weak pivots, sticky-soft pivot cup, unreally-bad bushings, short kingpin, sub-standard axles, and a baseplate that didn't even match the hanger's turn ability in either active geometry nor in bushing-ring placement! Few trucks have come out "in fightin' trim" for Slalom or Downhill racing, and most of those have arrived in the last 4 years. At least things are getting better! BTW, both Radikal and GOG have got it figured out, which is why the $$ are as much as they are.

I'm really liking my "Stennett" as a front truck for fast flowy hybrid and GS. Had to make a few unusual setup adjustments though, which other racers have agreed with me on. Had to get a shaft collar ($2 at ACE Hardware with a set screw!) for the kingpin of course - to run regular sized barrel bushings on the bottom. I am finding because the axle is so high and forward of the kingpin that the truck gets "divey" if wedged too much. I'm at 5 degrees for Hybrid and running flat for GS. I also am using a yellow Stim as a bottom bushing WITH the bottom bushing cup (never though I'd do that on a front truck!) to keep the truck from over-turning and/or diving - thanks to Mig M. for that idea. Also running it a little tighter than I would other front trucks. The "sweet spot" adjustment-wise on these trucks is very small, but when I get it just right it is really nice.

Yeah the Bennett makes a great GS truck! I run a modded one (Speed-dealer) on my set-up and really like it. At first I thought it might be too squirrely at GS speeds, but was amazed at the stability considering it is a conventional truck. I actually prefer it over my GOG for GS. I run the GOG for Hybrid and tight though. Can't beat that quickness!

another note - I found I had to shave off the side of the Stim (as a bottom bushing) that faces the back of the pivot arm, to keep it from binding a little, since the pivot arm is so clost to the kingpin there.

The more I ride this truck for GS, the more I like it. Smooth and stable on the big turns and nimble in the tight ones. Been running it flat for GS, as suggested by Mig - with a yellow stim and cup on the bottom, and a shaved green stim or A11 85a on top.

Front but I have modded offset rear as well.
