OK. I'm a jerk. But I love doing this. Not because I like to be a jerk about a great deal, but because I HOPE others will do the same thing. I really don't want anybody to miss a race because they think they can't afford to get a place to stay.

I went to Priceline, put in a bid for $60 a night and got it again. Unlike in Chicago, though, I just went ahead and asked for a 3-star. So I'm in the downtown Marriott. I know this area and I'm about 20 minutes from Tway's house. According to the map, I'm about 4-5 hours from Bethel, but that's understandable since the only way to get there is by way of Saskatoon and Montpelier.

Moral Of The Story: DON'T PAY RETAIL! With gas so high hotels are practically empty on the weekends. Getting $60 a night is a lot better than not getting $132.

Grass Roots Slalom continues next on the farm. Let the smack begin.

First off, thanks to everyone who paypaled us early. This race could not have happened without y'all.

A major thanks to all the sponsors who stepped up. Your contributions continue to make this event a special one. I know FATBOY is really stepping up with custom boards for the last place finisher with a time (Fri) and fastest rookie (Sat.). Roe is kickin' in a deck as well. Radikal is tossing in a set of trucks and I'm sure Khiro Bob has something up his sleeve. We are certainly gonna miss Flu. We wish him a speedy recovery and thanks to Asphalt Playground for their support. Finally, Dave from Skaterbuilt rocks. His boards are on fire. All over the world. Thanks!!!

8pm - Cleaned bearings, adjusted trucks, then removed Marty's name from the #9 slot and added Karl's....

Just so there is no confusion regarding the downhill event. It is by no means a traditional downhill race. It will be more of a pumping race w/o cones. Point A to point B...no more. We may add a turn or two but nothing more. One racer at a time. One run, no practice. A slalom board will probably be your best bet. A longboard may not make it off the ramp.

Put $5 in a hat and pay 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It should be pretty darn close and somewhat interesting.

All results from Friday will be announced at the Friday Night Party.

#4....

It sounds so Bond.

I love yer idea of a GS style downhill without cones. Maybe us big fatties will have a chance.

Here's a question for you since I read all of that crap between WT VS. the world. AFTER I drop off the ramp in the downhill, can I push? Or is it drop in and pump only? I like option #2, as I said...weight may finally be an advantage.

Frankly speaking.....I cannot wait for this.....

Now if I can only finish as high as my number. Maybe I should have been #20 instead....

Woke up. Finished spread sheets. Killed bees in front yard...

Attn Campers.

Just want to make it clear that anyone is welcome to camp but it is somewhat primitive. I personally don't recommend bringing your family to camp as there will be music going on... probably late. I have designated a spot in the side yard that should provide a fair amount of privacy. I plan to put a few lights in the area so everyone can find their own tent. There will not be a port-a-john but all are welcome to use the facilities in the farm.

Also, if you have never raced on Shady, THERE WILL BE TRAFFIC. The road will be open to residents only. Please be courteous and expect delays between runs. There will probably be a bunch of local kids and parents hanging around so please don't act like Tiger Woods when he makes a bad swing and yells "F@#K". If you DQ or hit a cone, just smile.

Friday night’s dinner will be provided by The Food Basket. 6' Subs and at least 10 pizzas are on order. Along with a full keg of Bud.

Race Notes:

Fridays GS will qualify you for the A, B, C or D brackets. However, you will still take 2 qualifying runs which will seed you in your particular bracket.

Since Hays is out this year, we don't have the budget for live music but I hope to have a live mic set up so if you can play any instrument...BRING IT. I know TK is good for a few songs.

This just in...PocketPistol Skates is now on board as a sponsor. Thanks Chicken.

Set up party tents in yard. Got a call from TK who just got the crocks. Went in garage to look for Tiki torches...found 3 remains...no completes.

Vintage Race

Attn: Vintage racers. This year's vintage race is going to be a little more serious than last years parade down the hill. This year we are awarding CROCKS. The 3 fastest times will earn a crock and 1 will be awarded for style/dress etc...

So clean those German bearings and be ready. All pre '78 boards, trucks and wheels accepted. Please no board sharing. The format is still undetermined. If time permits, we will do one qualifying run then do a single elimination race.

Ok. Just got off the phone with Kirby. Regarding the Vintage format...it will go as follows...

First you must past the JG tech inspection.

Then you will get 1 qualifying run.

You will then be seeded into A, B, or C bracket (Groups of 8)

It will be a dual race.

Single elimination.

Winner of each bracket will earn the illusive CROCK.

Again, 1 crock will be awarded for overall style, dress etc..

JG is the guy who tried to ride plastic baseplate Trackers. What does he know about vintage?

Posted: Wed Aug 03, 2005 1:51 am
by Marty Schaub
Maybe he knows enough to know that no one raced RR 6's on a needle nose back in the day.

by Wesley Tucker
I did.

And back in the day it wasn't a "needle nose," it was a "cut away."

OK,

Nobody fast rode RR 6's on a cutaway or a needlenose.

Still Needed For The Farm

1) 200' of extension cord
2) Walkie Talkies

Please bring if you can.

Thanks.

Weather Update....Friday looks hot but the good news is....they don't call it Shady Lane for nothin'.

Sat. looks killer. High 82 and low Humidity. 20% chance of rain.

Set up stereo and live mic. This may be a bit out of charactor for the farm, but I threw up x-mas lights under the canopies. One strand is bunk...maybe Cnova can find the burned out bulb. Tonight I plan to build an "Oyster/Clam" Bar and if Parsons doesn't pay his entry fee soon...he'll be shuckin' clams all nite Fri/Sat. Finally, I will give the timer a complete check-up just before bed time. Got 2 new tape switches in today.

Wes, I just got a message that Eric is not coming to the Farm. Bummer. However, he is sending a replacement.
Interesting. Could you call or email him and ask him to check his private messages? I can't find any contact info for him.
Are you planning to attend?
I'm right there at #21. Looking forward to it. BTW, I spoke to Brian Gilbert tonight and he told me that he won't be able to attend after all.

PS. Please delete the post that you made in this topic of mine so that I can delete the topic later? Also, don't go licking outdoor pump-handles in February.

Don't forget your instruments.

Thanks for the cord and the talkies.

Just about set. TK should be here in a few hours and we plan to mark both courses tonight.

Firepit is ready as is the raw bar. Parsons doesn't have to shuck clams all night afterall. Thanks BP.

Looking forward to a long and fun weekend.

I think the vintage is going to be very exciting this year. The first ever dual vintage race. The classes should be very interesting. Plus we will be racing on the same course as the Slalom event. The times will be cool to evaluate. Can Parsons qualify his Grentec?

Come to the farm and see.

Peace Out.

May the harvest be plentiful at THE FARM RACE! WesE is in NJ as I type this on his way to take you all down....and it may be a close call in the Vintage Outfit Contest too. Will The Geeze walk away from this one again in his pimp outfit? Or will a certain coloRADoan show up w/cool wife & camper and tight shorts? Only time will tell....we will be awaiting the results. Good Luck to all the Farmers!

The GS spreadsheet

There are a couple of racers who didn't get results (ie dq). But only Paul Pellerin in the result list. Did the others who are not in the result list not run? Or should they also be marked as DQ?
