Red Clay Cup - 2004 Georgia State Championship Slalom Skateboard Races (updated 8/26/04)

Friday, September 10th 5:00pm - 8:00pm (dark) - Outlaw Giant Slalom - short but fast, single lane jam format - excellent surface, long runout, might get dark quick, I'll try to get there around 4pm.

Saturday, September 11th 5:00pm - 11:pm - Downtown Athens Saturday evening. Washington Street, in front of the 40 Watt Club, infamous in more ways than one. Due to inconsistencies in the road surface, this will likely be a tight'ish hybrid course.

New Trakmate timer (false start detector), steep start ramps on Saturday night.

Racers from out of state will be put up at the Courtyard by Marriot, just west of the venue (walking/skating distance).
$500 guaranteed winner take all at each race (Friday and Saturday) - not to mention the coveted Red Clay Cup to the overall winner.

Mean Bean is feeding us again, Red Clay Real Estate & Development is on board, Monster Energy Drinks, Grindline, Bozi, Mile High Skates, Jason Thrasher Photography, other sponsors as added.

$50 to enter covers all events AND covers your entry fee into the Mountain State Slalom Skate, Fayetteville, WV, on October 17, 2004.

Sign up online at the NCDSA Contest Calendar - http://www.ncdsa.com/contest_registrati ... testID=142

I'll update this message regularly (photos, further info, etc.), thanks for your interest!

Georgia. Georgia? The whole day through...

EDDY...I'm in GREENVILLE for 5/5, bro! I'm outta here on the thursday noon flight back to PHX from DFW, no time to skate. Where the HelllinTexas are you?

Come out to AZ some time, and we'll do Park/ditch/Longboarding and slalom, all GRS style. Wifey is a killer cook.

Georgia...not this year. Too much goin' on through the end of May. June-Sept, gotta get the Supra ready for the national Vegas meet.

updated 7/19/04

Official name change, I will now refer to this race exclusively as the Red Clay Cup, which better reflects the regional nature of the race. It also allows me to officially name a Georgia State Champion (residency required).

Race is now permitted and insured

Free two nights of lodging offered for racers available to those signed up through August 19

Free transportation to and from the Atlanta airport for flights arriving earlier than noon on Friday or Saturday mornings.

In case of rain Friday evening, we will hold the outlaw race Saturday morning.

If rain is forecast for Saturday evening, we will run a dual hybrid Saturday at the outlaw venue.

We will run rain or shine Saturday evening, bring inexpensive trucks and an old set of bearings.

Worst case scenario, we will return to the covered Equestrian Park for a flat slalom race.

Sounds like a cool race Rick! Unfortunately, I'm already going to a race on the French Riviera at the same time. This time next year I should be permanently in the US and will definately come down! Its way too long since I hung out with Team Byrd!

It's all coming together here in the land of Red Clay - you all are in for a very good time.

The Red Clay Cup t-shirts have arrived (limited edition, these will be handed out to racers on the hill Friday and Saturday nights) - lots of people have asked me about getting them a Red Clay Skateboard Racing Team shirt this summer, well, unless you've got nephews named Jared and Clayton, the only way to get one is to race in Athens next week.

Local press is promising full blown coverage next week, and a CNN affiliate will be out getting footage.

Monster Energy Drinks is bringing hot babes to bend over and pick up cones

Terrapin Brewing is flowing the adult beverages for the post race par-tays

Lots of schwag has been promised, but alas, none has arrived (sorry)

If we can just make it through Hurricane Frances (which is threatening to dump massive amounts of rain here in Georgia on Labor day), I hope we'll fall back into our pattern of summertime drought and very little rain this summer (we only had 6 days of rain in August, and only one of those was of any significance)

Please, if you can, Paypal your entry from the NCDSA Contest Calendar ( http://www.ncdsa.com/contest_registrati ... testID=142 ) before coming to town. I'd prefer not to be dealing with any amounts of cash on Friday or Saturday (except what I plan on forking over to the winner - $500 each night!!!) I need to firm up my block of rooms with the Courtyard by Marriot, and I don't want to end up paying for rooms that don't get used (i.e. if you signed up, show up or delete your name from the NCDSA Contest Calendar)

Some big names that haven't signed up have indicated they'll be here, I have a feeling the cup ain't going back to Flor'duh this year.

Oh, and let's show our support for the guys doing the freestyle demo - I want them to come back next year and run a full fledged contest in combo with the slalom race and our first ever bowl riding contest here in Athens.

so where is the coveted Cup headed to? Look forward to see all my bros. Sounds like the level of racing has been risen. I will do my best to keep up. By the way Joe I wait till you check out the mullet I am growing. Very 80s. Muy simpatico. Your Amigo Eddy Texas Outlaws.

although gayness runs rampant in Athens (not that there's anything wrong that), Friday night will be a third testicle shriveling giant slalom, the likes of which have not been seen by me in my two plus years of traveling to slalom races throughout the United States

Eddie Martinez, Texas Mullet! HAHAHA, stop I just wet my pants a little.

Stanziale, don't forget this year's newest award sponsored by me

It's the Local's Rule award

Pabt's Blue Ribbon, a Varsity voucher, and a roll of Cottonelle goes to the fastest one of you local goobers not named 66 or Thompson.

Missing teeth, carrying the KKK Mastercard, or being married to a blood relative all take .5 seconds off your time. Hard core locals can combine all three for a hat trick of 1.5 seconds towards winning this Valuable Award.

What can I say. I'm a giver.

Joe

Is that from last years race?

Where were those chicks on my birthday?

Can I put my drink there?

Red Clay is going to be out of hand. I predict a full scale sacking of Athens old school style, you know, like the Persians in 480 BC.

And remember, what happens in Athens stays in Athens.

set up the outlaw course last night

Low J wet his pants on his first run (this on a Comet w/ Radikal front/offset Indy rear & Avalons) but he eventually got it

my only worry is that it might be over 1000 feet (my timer only goes 1000 ft)

around 35 cones - 3 pumpable straight sections at the top, but if you build too much speed you won't be able to handle the wide offsets in the middle of the course

after the wide offsets, another pumpable straight section before one wide offset stinger at the end to keep you honest and then a dive for the finish line

Friday night is the racers race, Saturday is for the spectators

even if i don't do well i'm absolutely sure that i'll get me $230 worth of rooming, mean bean, beer, biotches, and memories.

i skate,
i smoke,
i drink,
i live.

gettin the chills just thinking about it. first time on a plane by myself. damn i am stooooooooked.

Strange, but we only got about 2 inches. Seneca, South Carolina, about an hour and a half northeast got 7 inches. We had strong winds (maybe 40mph gusts) for a couple of hours before sun up Tuesday, but that was the extent of it.

Tom - somebody turned in the dude living on Trade Street, there was an article about the police finding drugs (unspecified) and porn mags out there.

Guess they didn't see that issue of Slalom! I left behind.

Skateboard racing lives in the south! It's on!
