Do your best to read the letter above I apoligize for the small printing. It is good to see that the city of Amsterdam is backing up a slalom skateboarding competition, we are not part of a festival or whatever other event. We are just a slalomskateboarding event.

The city has provided us with fresh new asphalt, advertising of the event and they also have cancelled a cycling event that was going to happen on the same location on the same day they had to pay a fine for that.

We will start on 8:30 AM Saturday morning August the 16th with the registration of riders.

I hope we can start on 10 AM:

Tight slalom qualification for the amateurs.

Tight slalom qualifications PRO´s

Tight slalom Final Pro´s

Tight slalom Final AM´s

Hybrid slalom qualification PRO´s and AM´s

On Sunday August the 17th we will start at 8:30 AM

Hybrid Slalom Finals for the Amateurs

Hybrid slalom Final PRO´s

GS Qualifying runs Amateurs

GS Qualifying runs Pros

GS Finals PRO´s

GS Final Amateurs

Two days of solid skateboarding.

Facilities:

You can camp on site from Friday evening on.
We have reserved a half football field for the tents. We also provide showers, changing rooms and proper sanitary facilities. All of it of the best standards, clean and new. Please take good care of it. You will all be provided with trash bags. Please do not make any fires at any time. The location is well lit, no BBQ, sorry. You will be in a football field next to a golf course, ten minute walk to a lake and a ten minute tram ride to famous Leidseplein.

!!!!!!!BRING YOU OWN TENT!!!!!!!

For the ones looking for a nice and cheap hotel:
http://www.flyingpig.nl/
You can also go to our website:
www.amsterdamslalom.com
there is a link there for nice and cheap hotels in Amsterdam.

Prizes:

AMS: Goodiesbags are full. Thanks to Vans and to Hardcore Suplies
PRO`s : It depends on the number of competitors but it is looking very good already

Starting ramps will be provided by PAVEL. The big ramp will be used, please wear a helmet!

I do hope to see you all here.

time to the racetrack

Post by Emrik Larsson » Tue Jul 29, 2008 11:28 am

I won't be able to catch a flight until saturday morning, arriving at schiphol 0755 approx.
How far is schiphol from the sportspark..
i saw that you could easily take the tram etc..
but thinking of instead catching a Cab, is that expensive?

there's no direct shuttle ?
or anyone else arriving early saturday morning, maybe we could go together?

Best is to take a bus or cab. There's no tram going from Schiphol to the sportspark.
You can take bus 195. But then you'll still have to walk 11 minutes from the bus stop to the park. Cab will costs you between 20 and 30 euros I guess. Bus only a few euros.

From Schiphol to the site you can take the bus without any problems. You an skate the last part, it should take you no longer then 5 minutes and it is all done on bicycle lanes. No problem at all.

I am working at finding a place for in the case of rain. If this goes as planed we will skate on the SAME LOCATION but then inside a covered venue for bicycle races. I still need to get the OK from the association that takes care of the place but I think we will not have any problems. Bad news is that it is flat.

Hi Flavio,

I know you said that the competitor list doesn't update very quickly but can you check that you have me down as I registered about 3-4weeks ago and my name has not yet appeared. Or should I sign up again?

why always this long break between quali and finals of the AM's ???????

Motivation is going down, the muscles have to be rewarmed, etc.

Why not 1st the Am quali & finals , and then the PRO's quali & finals???

For those of you who like to hear some jazz and funk visit the town Haarlem.
On Friday and Saturday it is Haarlem Jazz. The whole town will be filled with places where you can hear Jazz, Funk and Soul for free.
From the championship site it is a 15 minute drive by car. I tried to point it out on google maps, don't know if it works but here is the link;

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&saddr=& ... 23474&z=11

Fridaynight you can see f.i.
New York Ska Ensemble
José James
Alain Clark

On Saturday
Ibrahim Electric and Ray Anderson
Ernest Ranglin(Jamaica) meets The Highnotes

Enjoy your stay wherever you will go.
I'd rather spend my time between

These three hotels are like 5 minute skating from the contest location but they are a bit expensive:

Mercure Amsterdam Airport 4
Oude Haagseweg 20
Amsterdam 1066 BW
Netherlands

Hotel Nieuw Slotania
Slotermeerlaan 133
1063JN, Amsterdam
+31 (0)20 61 34 568

Amsterdam Centrum/Zuidwest
Nachtwachtlaan 11
1058 EV Amsterdam
Tel: +31 (0)20-6691621
Fax: +31 (0)20-6691631

if you go to www.amsterdamslalom.com then click on INFO
scroll down the page until you find:

list of cheap hotels in Amsterdam.
click on it

you will be taken to a page with HUNDREDS of cheap and good hotels. Pick one in the center of the city places like Leidseplein, Rebrantplein or any address that ends up with a gracht word
from the center of the city you have to take tram number 2 to the location. Please refer to www.amsterdamslalom.com under INFO then scroll to PUBLIC TRANSPORT.

Carsten you are right, I do understand your point but....I had to make a few deals with the press to see that they would show up.
This was the best way I found to make it possible for them to film the PRO´s with some decent light.

I do hope you understand.

Please note.

the comment:

"Relax, it's skateboarding!"

posted at the end of the riders list on the event website list does NOT reflect my opinion.
I surelly want this contest to be runned the proper way and a proper rider´s list is part of it, otherwise we should not have it.

The right way is the relaxed way.

Call it a M.
Remember you can (you are not obliged though) use the big ramp to start. I figure the exit speed at the bottom of the ramp is ± 28 Km/h.

Very smooth asphalt.

Pitch?
I don´t know. In my whole life as a skateboarder I always measured the terrein in the following way:

Pools had a little vert, some vert or a lot of vert.
Hills were: Mellow, Ok or steep.
This one is OK. It is steeper than the Trocadero. The run away goes on forever, so you don´t have to worry about your shoes :-)

The course length will be about 220-250 meters.

IMPORTANT!!!
All riders willing to use the Big Ramp will be asked to sign a weaver freeing the contest organizers and the ramp builders from any responsability in case of an acident while riding it.
And again I say there is more than enough room to push pedal your way into the GS course.

We are ready to go:

The course will be set up on the competition day. Fresh made. All riders will have two practise runs and that is it. This way everybody will have the same chance.

Donald will be setting up the courses early on Saturday morning. So you can expect the usual GOG style technical courses .

We are all going to be there on Friday evening. I will be at the location from about 5 PM on.
If you come on Friday eve you can also register at that time. That would save us time on Saturday morning.

You are allowed to camp from Friday eve on.

How is the weather?
Presently it is not really good it rains then it stops and then is mostly blue skies at the end of the day, but from tomorrow on things are improving. I will keep everybody posted. It doesn´t look bad for the weekend.

What if it rains?
Plan B will be used. That is moving the whole set up to the Amsterdam Skatepark in the north of Amsterdam. It is flat, sorry. This is just in case of RAIN. Better flat then nothing.

Flavio, what is your phone number?

My mobile number is:

+31 6 42 50 97 80, it will be on all the time.

I wish all of you a good trip to Amsterdam.

You are all VERY WELCOME to the City.

The plan B location:

http://www.skateparkamsterdam.nl/

If it rains we will go to Everland Skatepark on north side of Amsterdam. We will have single course races, flat but decente.

So no worries about the weather, we can race anyways.

However I must add that the weather continues to improve !!!!

I have just been outside skating ...

more updates tomorrow morning

hey don´t forget we have a camping site. Let´s use it, many riders are staying there and I do think it is a good place to hang out.
There are two super markets very close to the location as well.

The lastest weather report from Amsterdam:

Saturday: A 20% chance of rain, wind force 3, average temperature: 22 C

Sunday: A 30% chance of rain, wind force 3, average temperature 24 C

This is good.

and it is dry at this moment as well we could have been skating since the early hours in the morning.

Please all of you try to be at the location at 8 AM on Saturday morning. We will start registration at that time.

We want to start at 10 AM

Also, around 2 PM on Saturday, Dutch national television RTL will be at the contest, filming and possibly interviewing some of you. We will be on the news (broadcasted to the whole country) on Saturday evening.

Weather: Good, forcast for tomorrow and Saturday is for dry weather. Sunday is also not looking bad, there is a 30% chance of rain only.

Michael Stride has just joined the riders list.
