European Championships, Amsterdam, Aug 16-17 2008 [MAIN]

Post by Flavio Badenes » Sat Oct 20, 2007 9:39 am

We have started the hard work. The plan is ready.

First good news is that brand new asphalt is being applied to the location where we were last year. This is working in progress. It should be ready soon.

For 2008 the City of Amsterdam will be much more involved.

Two day event.

GS, HS, TS
Pro and AM.
Men and Women
Dates to be confirmed

Here we go again.

Ed note: Title of topic updated 2008-06-23 following the move of the euros to Amsterdam /Jani

So far we have a brand new surface. A coin rolls all the way down the hill as smooth as a baby face......

This was specially laid down for the contest.

The city of Amsterdam paid!!!! to have a contest that was going to happen on the same weekend as ours CANCELLED.

The city wants to make the SLALOM event the third biggest annual event on that location together with an international racing cycling event and an international junior football event. Both football and cycling even have a attendance of 3000 people on the two days the last to watch races and player of the whole world.

The city wants to " adopt " our event.

Do you guys realize the potential?

I do hope to see you all here.

and more info will come soon...
I have something cooking.......... see you soon............

In Amsterdam drug testing means doing a Tour of the 'Coffee Shops' then staggering home to make notes ;)

Indeed Jani. You started it and I am glad to be able to do the same. This is the least we can do to get more girls involved in slalom skateboarding.

By the way, are you the one that can change the title on this topic from PRIME to MAIN ? I would really appreciate if you could do that. Thanks!!

Hi, Flavio!

I hope you will include junior group in European championship 2008.

They are not so many and need only gratitude and diploma.

Junior group was last EM in Latvia 2006 and in France 2007.

No juniors - no future!

Hi Flavio,

are there some special rates for the competitors
in Hotel Mercure ?
(Last year in Hannover was Mercure a sponsor
and the cost of a doubleroom were about 35,00 EUR.)
What about the campsite - Is it in the same area ?
If you go to Riga we can speak there about it.

Kind regards

Robert

Hi Robert,

I have two meetings this week with managers from two hotels in that area. More info soon.

The camping site is on the racing site. It is almost like sleeping on the course. :-)

It is a quite nice grass field. You can place your tent there. There are also all the facilities, like lockers, showers, WC and dressing rooms. All very nice. They are part of the sport complex and they are used for the events that happen in the sport complex.

Flavio,

Hope you are surfing a lot! Is it in Brazil? lucky you!

When you come back, pls post the agenda of the event so I can adjust planes & hotels. I'm coming from Mundaka (good surfing too!, he he), so logistics are a little tricky.

I'm also trying to abduct some other guys from Spain. Argument being we are on a historical winning streak we need to mantain (Eurocup, Wimbledon...)!

Hola Ricardo!! and all the others!!!

Man I must congratulate Spain for the worderfull victory in the European Cup, great football and Nadal was also very good. So it is now up to you guys :-)

Ok:
The contest starts Saturday morning on 10 AM with the qualification for the TS AMs. Please go to our website on www.amsterdamslalom.com there click on info and you will find a link to a lot of really good and cheap hotels in Amsterdam.

Please keep in mind that the website has not been updated in the last week or so due to the vacation period, so you your name is not on the riders list do nt worry eventually it will be (sorry....).

The contest goes on through Saturday and Sunday, we plan to finish at around 5 PM on Sunday. So everybody can catch their flights back home on Sunday eve. The location is really near by the airport.

This is it for now.
Oh yeah before I go...I have surfed Mundaka in 1987, I was a much younger fellow then but I still remenber the lefts I surfed. :-)

Gentlemen of the ASS. I regret not being able to go to your contest this year. Maybe I was the first woman to go down your big windmill start ramp. The ramp made me almost flat bottom out but it gave me just the right speed to go into the course for a good run. Hope to come back another year.
Some of you guys are looking for hotels. The location is a bit away from the Red Lights. If one were to stay by Overtoom, Osdorp, Sloten, Slotervaart area you would be closer. The prices have increased since I started going there big time. The cheapest hotels on expedia are closest. Tulip Inn Amsterdam City West and Basion Centrum Zuid West.
If you have a car stay at Zandvoort En Zee at Pension Irma Louise B+B. There are lots of other B+Bs, way cheaper out this way than staying Centrum. ($50Euro a night single ++) Its only a 15 minute drive to the contest and it is nice out there by the beach. There doesn't appear to be any hotels by Haarlem that are affordable.
Hoping to go to Grenoble in September, maybe see some of you then.
Later Skaters!
