[2006] Paris Slalom World Cup 2006, May 25-28, 2006

Problems with the dates, June 3-5 or May 25-28

< Latest update. We've now choosen May 25-28, a four day race weekend! Updated Nov 2005 /Jani>

We just received information that we may be able to get an authorization for the Trocadero on June 3-5, 2006 and may have to move the event back into May, 26-28. It's not a bad choice either as it is kind of a 4 day weekend.

We received the information yesterday that they are blocking all events on the Trocadero for the month of June. We don't know why and what the outcome will be, but for now we have asked for the alternative date of May 26-28.

Sorry to keep you on hold, but this is some top level decision from the city.

Don't book you tickets just yet. Let's wait and see what comes out of this.

Paris dates

Jani,

Monday the 29th of May is a Bank Holiday in Britain, so the earlier dates might suit those hoping both to travel and take in a bit of Paris without having the mad dash back to the UK.

Is this not also similar to the dates of PWC one and two?

The above is not intended to swing any decision, but should go to show that the May dates are not unfavourable, and will probably even be welcomed by a tiny part of the slalom community.

Normally Jani has already informed him.
but in fact nothing is sure. We are waiting for more news...
The city was OK for the first week end of June but there's something big from the country or government that seem to block even the city will!
We hope to have more information at the beginning of next week.

I like that! Let us know as soon as it is all confirmed. 2 Events in one trip with some coaching clinics in between sounds good.

Detlef was informed before I posted here.

Nothing is sure yet and although VinzZz and I now share the responsibility for the Paris SLALOM race we can't decide (alone) over the whole event. We'll say what we think next week at a meeting with the rest of the organizers.

Next years Paris Slalom World Cup will include more "other" events than before and also other skateboard disciplines(!). (Hey, Donald listen!)

More news as soon as we can obtain it.

Hannover World Cup

Hey Jani,

i hope everything will work good for you. If you decide to make the event one week before in may, we are ready to hold our 2. skateboard slalom world cup in hannover from 3.-5. of june.

at the moment it´s the only possibility. each first weekend in june we have the expo revival party on the expo area 2000. all streets are closed on that weekend and a lot of spectators go there for the event.

anyway, good luck for you in paris. i´ll be there. may or june. we will see.

dear jani:

even though i seem to be a loudmouth for you guys, your recent post shows that some of my actions have caused reactions which are good for the scene and the sport.
i think that your shoutout to me indicates that.
sometimes people who create a push can cause some good things.

by Hans Koraeus
Donald, you being a loudmouth or not have nothing to do with it. The trend have been going that way for a long time. It's just that some shout and act and others just act. It still gives results in the end.

We all have our personalities and they are all needed, like in the real world. Seeing all the different kinds of people doing slalom on a high level is really great. The same goes for the organizers. This is a good thing and will make the future so much more interesting for the sport. Skateboarding has some real characters. Let's hope slalom can be a place where they can all meet.

Right now it is more likely that Paris will be end of May rather than early June.

Our next organizers meeting was postponed and I will not be able to attend the next one (Vinzzz will) but it is leaning strongly towards May. But as we still haven't had a green light for our initial date June 3-5 it's safer to go for a late May date.

Just wanted to let you know, although the final word hasn't been said yet.

Hey Vinzz, we are waiting for the Final Word from Paris. Our Race on the fabulous Expo Area is only possible on the first weekend in june. So if you decide to change your date to may, we can organize our race. please let me know your decision. we can organize a powerweek with to big races in two european countries. this can be very interesting for the american racers.
i´m sure we can offer a big price money for an overall winner paris/ hannover. what do you think? and what do all the participants from our first race think about that idea?

Paris dates: from the 25th to the 28th of May 2006

Riderz and the CDRS75 (parisian comitee of the french federation) booked the Trocadero slopes from the 25th to the 28th of May 2006.
So we are thinking about a four days event, but we have to work more on the schedule before telling more.
You'll also be happy to know that we're trying to block another street just near the Trocadero to organize a long Giant Slalom (or Super G).

seems like i'll be back in paris sooner that expected!
4 days program with a super G, it looks great

but that time, i'll be there as a visitor, not anymore as a local! ;)

Déjà elle descend depuis Passy vers radio France... ensuite on est pas obligé de fermer toute la route, genre à partir de St Jean... On peut toujours demander, parce que ça pour un géant ce serait terrible...

So which are the dates for the slalom competition?

I'm not that interested in standing around Trocadero watching the slide comp or the rollerskaters.

Will this be the first year without rain?

Is there any chance to change the We and doing the race in three days instead of four?
I know that I'm alone, BUT if the date will not change probably I will have to skip the race (due to job related difficulties). For me would be really a pitty missing Paris....
Thanks in advance anyway,
Stefano

The dates will not change (to another weekend if that's what you meant). However I'm not sure about the schedule yet. We intend to use the Thursday for Giant slalom racing on a street outside of Trocadero, but we haven't got the authorization for that particular street yet.

Another idea we've had is to use the Thursday for some of the Am qualification, to reduce the number of skaters/runs on the other days.

The final schedule cannot be decided yet.

In other words, if you are not into GS or would like to qualify as an Am thursday is probably off..?

Giant slalom racing on a street
a giant course on one of those big parisian boulevards? I mean, how spectacular is this?
There's no way to top this!
I won't miss this one, that's for sure. This year I'm going to bring my family.
The whole Pavel-Team is going to show up. We are all going to have a blast!

Stefano: You better don't miss Paris! I guess You will be a strong contender, this year, having trained all winter with Luca. I noticed Your GoForIt-attitude in Antibes last year.

Marcus: There will be no rain! As You know, we all paid our dues last year.

i suspect the city administration would prefer to offer to cut a boulevard on the sunday morning when traffic pressure is very low. Doing national qualifs first sounds like a good idea (might be a crowd).

If you're a Pro racer and not interested in GS, yes you could have Thursday off, but only if these plans become reality. Don't hold your breath just yet.

Thanks so much! I appreciate it. The only point is that only with my "GoForIt-attitude " I won't go that far. I will have to be two seconds faster....Moreover we did not train during winter except doing couples of pumps for the Olympics (it was indoor at the beginning). Now we would like to start as soon as the weather will be dry at 8:00 pm. Hopefully soon.

Anyway I gonna try to be faster. We will update on this issue at the end of the season. You know, I'm pretty old, but may be not toooooo old.
;-)
BTW, concerning Paris I will do all my best to be there. It would be a dream.
If I won't be there you will find me elsewhere during the season. In fact I will start with the race on April 22nd in Switzerland.
Enjoy your training,
Stefano

Paris schedule

Jani,

Is there a schedule of events as yet? I am expecting to book Eurostar tickets for myself and Stride tomorow, so naturally don't want to arrive after an event in which I am entered has taken place.

How about this for playing Devil's Advocate: Get those dedicated Pros to Paris early, run them early and get something in the bag before the weather kicks in. Let the Ams amble up, have a bash, have a tumble and have a beer.

No, not yet.
There's a meeting tomorrow so then we may come up with a schedule. Hold on for a few days.

We'd like to use as much as we can of the 4 day weekend, but haven't yet figured out the best way to use the time. We've been thinking about doing some of the am qualifying on the Thursday, so don't skip that day.

Hopefully more news soon.

any recommendations for affordable hotels for the paris race? I am travelling with my girlfriend and we are looking for something cheap. Donald suggested the formula one hotels and they seem pretty decent. any other places in Paris?

you might search in the western suburb ( Boulogne-Billancourt - neuilly -suresne - nanterre- asniere) Which is about 15 minute from Trocadero, it could be cheaper than in Paris.
