This might be a good opportunity to visit both this event and the European Championships in Stockholm a week later. There are now low-cost Ryan air flights between Riga and Stockholm making it very affordable to participate in this event.

Gints has a long experience of organizing events, so you can count on a good organization!
Latvia used to have a good slalom scene

More info will follow.

Good prices to Riga with RyanAir

While looking for flights for myself I saw that flights with www.RyanAir.com from Stockholm to Riga is now 464 SEK (51 Euros) return !!! I suggest there be massive Swedish participation at this race.

Also got information today that the street has been resurfaced just for the race. And if you didn't know the race is on the citys main street! OK, it may be a small town, but this is a beach resort and it'll be in the middle of the summer season. Sounds like we'll have some spectators!

Hi!
The cheepest flight operated by Airbaltic I found from Munchin -195, euro including taxes.
If you decided to come with this flight, arrived in Riga around midnight, any from our team can meet You and drive to the hotel.
p.s. the flight prices rises with the time...

Hi ,
thanks to those ones who have already given us the infos about your flight schedules. We register it all, and everybody will be picked up from the airport free of charge. Seems that i will be the coordinator for it, so you are welcome to reply directly to me. Or call +371-9275148.
As a hotel we recommend Hotel Vilmaja, see the link. We have reserved 10 places in double rooms with the chance to increase the number. There will be also a special rate. We would recommend to you to stay there, because it is quite close to Riga center which is of course much more attractive for hanging out than Jurmala. During the contest days we will organize free transport (by bus or privat cars) to the contest place and back.

We will try to get special price at the announced hotel Vilmaja, eventhough their price level is actually very cheap for the quality of rooms they offer. Please also bear in mind that there is really a stressed situation with the hotel beds in Riga during high season.

Check out the Pro registration list for the Riga/Jurmala event (so far):

1 Krumins Konrads krumi latvija PRO
2 Söderhäll Jani coneRacing & Airflow Sweden PRO
3 Sausins Armands - Latvia PRO
4 Kuzmins Janis ConeRacing Latvia PRO
5 Konošonoks Edžus Priekuļu nagliņbrigāde Latvija PRO
6 Berzins Martins - Latvia PRO
7 Sirmais Jānis Priekuļu Nagliņbrigāde Latvija PRO
8 Petrauskas Remigijus Lithuania Lithuania PRO
9 Gailitis Gints Zig Zag Latvia PRO
10 Vidzenieks Martins County Boy's Club Latvia PRO
11 Zommers Gints Imanta Latvia PRO
12 Mironenko Stas Ukraina Ukraina PRO
13 Kozhin Denis - Russia PRO

Such a big group of Latvian Pros. And what is even cooler is participation from Ukraine, Russia and Lithuania. Stas Mironenko - wow, we haven't met since a very long time. Denis Kozhin, a really promising racer. I expect him to do really well. Petrauskas used to be really fast too.

Among the ladies my old friend Svetlana Brusilovskaja. We haven't met since Saratov 94? Elena Sinodalova has registered too, so this will be a good level race.

Anders Hellquist, Sweden, will probably come too.

Who wanna do the skate trip?

Posted: Thu Jun 23, 2005 4:11 pm
by Vincent Berruchon
Hi everybody, the event is really soon now.
I've talked in Gruningen with Janis and Latvians skaters. They said that all people that want to go shouldn' wait now to reserve accomodations.
Furthermore they'd like to help us and organize what should be. So if possible just say them quickly where you stay.

We're a few french doing the Sweden-Latvia trip but it woud be really cool if we could go all in the same place
As you've seen there is two main propositions :
- the hotel in Riga, Hotel Vilmaja, nice, not so expensive for a real hotel but not near of the race
- Nemo, cheap but OK, near the beach, the skatepark and near the race site ( www.nemo.lv - two rooms flat for 13 lats=20 euro per night for 2 persons)

Any others suggestions?
I'm arriving on Thursday and leaving on Wednesday in the afternoon.
Great if we can organize our skate trip together
Young french skaters will probably prefer the cheapest, so probably Jurmala.with the beach and skatepark can be cool
but I'd like to visit Riga too.
What are your plans'? Let's keep in touch

I think Nemo sounds like the most sensible idea... If we all stay at the same place is there any way we can haggle some kind of "group" reduction?

i'd like to visit riga too. Well I got another solution....I know someone who could maybe borrow his flat in Riga, but it's not sure... French guys, I told you if it works ;)

Hello Gints!

I'm really looking forward to the competition in Riga.

The departure for my flight back to Stockholm from Riga is 17:20 on Sunday the 10th July. Do you think that the pro-class competition will be finished by then?

Is there a possibility to take a taxi directly to the airport?

Hi,
last news about the accomodation. Nemo camp is booked out, no free space anymore. If you are going for low budget so we can also recommend Hotel Liesma in Jurmala. It is situated in the middle between the contest place (4 km) and Nemo skatepark (4 km). A double room cost LVL 25,- , if you add 3rd bed then 31 LVL,-. Please let us know asap if you choose this, we have reserved 5 double rooms on free conditions so far. On the contest days there will be free bus to contest place and back.
Please also advise your arrival schedule in Riga, we will pick up everybody.
see you soon

18 pros from 5 different countries. 7 countries in all. Not bad for a first World Cup in Latvia. Anybody else thinking about coming? No Swiss so far in the Pro category, but Jadranko is representing the Swiss in the Amateur category.

It'll be really fun to go to this event for me as I know many, if not all of the guys and gals on the starting list, but half of them I haven't since 1994 or 1995.

See you all next weekend!

PS. Where is Vincent Berruchon in the starting list? As far as I know he's really coming.

Too late, he's gone...
Travel with Allan are ever full of surprises:
his last message to me said that finally we should find him at the Riga Train Station on Thursday since 19:00.
He's comin from Stockholm: mer, 06 jui 05 - flight FR1962
14:45 Stockholm S. Skavsta (NYO) --> 16:55 Arrival Riga (RIX)

Did he contact you Uldis or someone in Latvia?

If you didn't have more indications and if it's possible, I suppose we'll have to go to find him at the train station on THursday?

Allan?? do you hear me?

It's ok!! I'm in Riga, and I have internet! :)

I'm sorry to cause so much trouble :( if the train station is inconvenient for you than I can meet you at the airport with Vinzzz, the bus is cheap and doesn't take too much time...

Jani, if it's not too much trouble for you to bring some griptape, some screws (8 would be good...) and one flat pad that would be great, I would really owe you one! It's for a pool board so s;all screws should do the job just fine...

Sorry again for all the trouble and hope to see you all tomorrow with smily faces in Riga...

OK, done.

Just talked to Klang yesterday. It seems like the Riga event is very well organized and supported by the whole community. The asphalt was the smoothes he had ever ridden on a competition. Ahh, really smooth asphalt on a competition... a wet dream for most slalomers and still so hard to manage. Also it's a very nice town on the boarder to the sea. A strong candidate for Main Status next year according to Klang.

Ok, the results. It seems like Kuzmins whipped everybodies ... He looked very, very strong and will be ready to take on Stockholm 15-17 july. Suprisingly good news for the Swedes. Anders Hellquist took second, Peter Klang third. Then I don't know more expect that Jani was 6:th. But then Jani took this as his only chance to get a practice session in before Stockholm so I don't worry to much. He will do better today already, I'm sure, with a couple of runs under his belt.

WOW, Just got back from what I believe will make Stockholm look like a silly comp. Latvia blow my mind, super good organization, beautiful beach, great course on the best surface ever (baby’s butt smooth), The vibe of the Latvian people is really something for all of us to learn from, I never felt so welcomed and friendly treated in my life. Super fun from the time I landed till I left. The barbecue party on Saturday, well I have on film, but would not dear showing it at home, even though I have a clean contuse. This event must get Main status next year, I say we all go there.
