Slalom Skateboard World Cup Grüningen 2004

This is a announcement for the famous Parallel Slalom Race in Grueningen/Switzerland.

The race will be held for the fifth time now once again organized by the Youth-Generation Association. The complete Swiss scene will be there as well as racers from all over the World.

The stats:

Date: 19./20. June 2004
Place: Grueningen/Switzerland (nearest international Airport: Zuerich; for a pick up, please contact Jadranko)
Categories: Girls, Juniors (16 and younger), Men Pro, Men Am
Disciplines: Saturday Tight Slalom, Sunday Giant Slalom. Ramp start, electronic timing
Entry Fee: 20 CHF (incl. Party ticket for the Saturday night raiders Party)

Das Rennen wird nun zum fünften mal abgehalten und wird wieder vom Verein Youth-Generation organisiert. Die ganze schweizer Slalom Scene wird anwesend sein, wie auch Fahrer aus der ganzen Welt.

I hope you all noticed that there is a limit of 80 riders, so register early. This seems to be a first come first serve basis. I really hope this will not be taken too seriously once we get to the critical number. But Stride is already registered, so this is all I need.....

What I heard from the conversation between Chris Hart and Jadranko is that the registration isn't going to get closed at 80...I think the limit will be approx. 100 competitors...but I don't know!

The tight pro slalom will be set by Chris Linford, Michael Stride and Paul Price. The tight AM is the self like last year.

Make it as tight as you want. Just make sure the pro's are aware of it so that they bring proper equipment. Last year many where not sure what tight meant. It still is confusing I guess. If the course setters could give a hint in planned average cone distance that would help a lot. Both for Pro's and Am's by the way.

I have read at the competition site that the tight will have cone distance between 1.7 and 2 meters. Time to buy yourself a new board.

Nice and tight what is that?
Watch last years video and ask Jani which board he took for the tight then you know. The Stridínator will be setting the course with the other tight slalom freaks from the island, so why do you hesitate?

I think a good definition for tight is when you stand on the ramp and think "i´ll never make it through there".......................

just kidding, I don´t know.......i just know it was too tíght for certain definitive pros last year who opted for the am class instead. There should be a "rule" for them not do this. It is not fair.
Tight means going as fast as the course allows, that also means holding back just as much as needed when neccessary........some can´t do this and just fire pumps, you´ll never make it that way........

I agree, there are certain pro's on the sign up list that are currently undecided (certain airflow riders) that without doubt should NOT be permitted to race in the Am category....like you say its just not fair on the rest of us!!

I hope those to whom it may concern read this. I would never be someone to force someone else to race in a certain category, it should be anyone´s own decision, but it should be obvious in certain cases.......to whom it may concern.

As you probably all know, the registration for the race has closed at 103 riders registered.
A lot of you have registered well in advance which is great, BUT, should you be registered and should you know right now that you cannot come, please write an email to the organizers and tell them to remove you to make way for someone else. Please do so and don´t block the registration. Thanks.

Hello everybody, here is a translated short update from the pscontest-team:

The start ramps will have gates this year. They have been tested successfully last week.

The cone judges will get instruction next sunday and will be equipped with number sheets this year.

Each racer will get a handout with rules and start bib and info when arriving in Grueningen

There will be lots of places where the results can be seen and checked by the racers after their runs. The 16-cut will be displayed on a large wooden board.

Speakers will be Chris Hart, Nastasia Wolfensberger and Jodli himself.

There will be someone behind the start ramps who directs the racers to the ramp when their run comes up, so the race should not delay.

A timetable will be offered next week.

Jodli will be in Silverstone next week, so talk to him if you have any questions.

Support the race and show up, and lets have some fun

There is a new small skatepark in Grüningen, built by the famous Bowl Construction AG who brought us the Wínterthur oververt wood bowl.

Its a very small but funny spot - I already had a taste of the concrete around the 30:th of May when I checked CH and A with Mark and Peter. this evening I invented the fs grind into bankjump to face slide !!!!!! really cool move - ... I will see if you can copy it ???

What is the B-plan if it rains? If the Meteo looks really bad on Thursday or Friday is there any risk the whole competition will be canceled? Is there any possibility to change date or is that option too late?

Hans, Plan B if it rains all the time is: get the Poolboards out and head to Winterthur, skate, drink and talk.

Maybe I should bring along some slalom films. If we could get hold of a video projector and a big white wall the Weekend could get saved.

Listen everybody:

The weather can change fast in the Alps, so don´t worry, do the slalom weather dance three times a day and come to race. There are several different weather predictions for the area, so it is hard to trust anybody.

The course is open for free practice from 8 o´clock on Saturday.

Bibs must be picked up by 10:30 for all racers. At 11:00 the race will start withe the elemination of the juniors (then women, Ams, Pros I think)

There is a hall available for the case of hard rain, so bring your videos, a beamer is there.

Just talked a few minutes with Corky who reported that the first day of racing happened despite rain ruining a part of the day. The day started off with rain then it dried so that the qualification could be held and then it started raining again and the organizers called off the event making the qualification results count as final.

Pro, Special Slalom (26 participants):
1. Luca Giammarco, Italy
2. Maurus Strobel, Switzerland
3. Chris Hart, Switzerland

Am, Special slalom
Hmm, all Corky could remember was:
2. Lee Diamant
He was pretty disappointed with his run which put him in 7:th place and checking the times he noticed that he would have to race Lee who had exactly the same time as he had, only Corky hit cones and Lee made a clean run. Could have been an interesting heat...

Women, Special slalom
Hmm, not much detail here either. Probably Nastasja Wolfensberger won, but that is still unconfirmed. Corky was too busy filming and it all happened pretty quickly with nobody realizing that the qualification would be the end of the days racing.

The course was set by the UK duo Linford and Price who both also did pretty well. Steve Olson was present and did fairly well around 8:th place. Practicing tight in Europe over the last couple of weeks may have helped him get used to a bit tighter courses. The course was also slightly longer than last year making the run out area shorter.

In general the event seemed well organized and the new gates on the starting ramps worked well. There was also an excellent head to head "wall" with wooden signs so that all skaters could follow the advancement of the finals. The only problem is that they never got that far...

Let's hope the sun's up for tomorrows race.

So I'm back from Grüningen. I will not try to remember the results from my head since I don't recall it very well. Also Sunday races had to to be settled by the qualification results. But I can tell you Luca won on Sunday as well. More on the results soon when they are posted. At least we all got home with results from Grüningen. It didn't look good either for Saturday or Sunday and the rain did show up. But when it stopped the course dried up very quickly. We even had some really warm and sunny hours on Sunday between the rainfalls.

Wow, Ramon Königshausen in 2:nd place Pro! Amazing! He beats Chris Hart and Maurus Strobel. That's pretty cool from a (former?) junior who's currently in 115 place in the World Ranking.
