R U Ready Timer

Post by Michael Stride » Thu Sep 13, 2007 10:20 pm

I hvae bought this timer through Gunfighter.com (greta service)

Two optical gates, wired and a nice LCD screen. It resets everytime the start gate is passed.

Uses only 3 9v batteries. One in the display, one in each emitter. Everything has threads for tripods. Takes under 2 mins to set up I have the wire on a cable reel.

Makes racing more fun, everyone can see the screen. 750 bucks or so.

A buck IS a dollar.

A quid is ...er a quid.....

A quid is also two bucks at the moment hahahahahahahahahahahah!

Thats why currently a lot of US sourced gear is cheaper for us Brits. Fill yer boots!

One way to hkeep costs down would be to buy just the screen, as it will work with tapeswiches or buttons if need be.

yes.

check out ruready.com the site is bit basic, but they have a number of different solutions. I purchased it from gunfighter.com though...cheaper

They are evidently developing a wireless system.

I have easily plugged in a tapeswitch instead of an optical gate, so you could just purchase the screen and use your own gates.

The screen only (four digit) is 317 dollars plus shipping. from gunfighter.com. You need to plug in start / finish gates through a 'y'connection. Very simple. The four digit will show 1000ths up to 9.999 secs and then 100ths after 10 secs, ie: 10.28 which is ideal for our purposes.

Today we used it and I havent changed batteries for ages. Easy to see in bright sunlight.

This week I modified my system to be wireless. The units I have are sourced from China , cost
32 pound (70 dollars) for two transmitters, one reciever. I should have ordered 3 transmitters to make a 're-set' remote, so I have ordered one seperatly. These are coded to work with the rciever. I put the reciever in the clock/screen box and wired a seperate battery.

range, 3000m or 9000feet. long!!!!!

I got the gear from www.netairbuy.com

As the recivers can be coded, with a combination of recivers you can configure muliple options such as dual start seperate finish on dual systems.

it feels like they have about one million products, can you be a bit more specific as to which you got? The display is great, but what I really like is to get rid of that roll of wire.

Have a closer look here:
http://www.netairbuy.com/switch/s1-ac12.htm

If you email them they are very good at help. What you might want is the 3000m handset transmitter with the single press button momnetary switch. I couldnt find it on the website. Its the same reciever though.

We tested it on Saturday, the distance is superb, even in a crowd, over 600 feet and counting....BUT I found that the speed of a skater crossing a tape switch does not press the on/off circuit long enough for the transmitter to trigger. (It did work with a hand or foot press) SO I am wireing a simple circuit with a chip that will 'hold' the button down electronically for a second, to make sure the trigger works. Its here, the fifth circuit down '1 second oneshot'.

http://home.cogeco.ca/~rpaisley4/LM555.html#4

That will trigger instantly but hold the remote closed for 1 second. That will make sure the trigger will work. I will report back after our next test.

The timer is from ruready.com but bought from gunfighter.com look under barrel racing timers.

Gunfighter.com adds slaom pics to the website

Post by Michael Stride » Thu Dec 06, 2007 8:21 pm

Really nice guy to deal with , Howard , at Gunfighter.com in the US has added pictures of the RUready timer system they sell to their website. Ive been using this system a fair bit and I reckon its excellent. I know they dont really frequent the slalom scene so thought Id do a plug for them.
