The Race Start I'd Like To See

George posted this pic over on NCDSA.com. This is my idea of a great start for any race. I've mentioned it before a couple of times in discussing ramps and gates, but here it is in all its glory from the 1970s.

With Mike Goldman in the chute in his leathers, I'm assuming this is a start for a downhill event. The same idea, though, would work for any slalom race. A gated start (hooked up to Tway's Trakmate 3.0) and then a strong sprint to the first cone. This provides for the athleticism of a good push start while disallowing the advantage some skaters have for having access to start ramps to practice.

Maybe not everyone's idea of a great start, but certainly what I would like to see. Certainly something I would build if I had the funds!
