Races you'd like to see

Post by Terry Kirby » Mon Feb 23, 2004 11:57 pm

I get tired reading all the tech dweeb stuff. No one ever talks about the actual races which is what Slalom is really all about.
There have been some Classic Match ups in the last 3 years. Heres a few that come to Mind...

Mollica Vs Olson... La Costa 01 GS
Dunn VS Gilmour MB 01
Dunn Vs Gilmour Catalina TS
Dunn VS Gilmour Breck GS
Arab VS Chaput Avila Worlds 02
Hester Vs Ryan La Costa 02
Chicken Vs Dunn Worlds TS

These are just some of mine. Who would you like to see duke it out this coming season?

Where is Gary Cross?

There was so much talk last year and this about whether or not PD was really going to hang it up. Will he race or won't he? Now he comes out with a new signature board from Bahne and it's kind of a foregone conclusion he'll ride his own board.

But what happened to Cross? I read where he went skiing, went bike riding or whatever, but he just disappeared from the scene last year with nary a howdy do.

What's more, who besides John O. will be pumping Comets this year? Are bamboo boards old hat?

Cross is a hardcore competitor. He came back from a loss in his first race from every heat at the worlds ts in 2002. Crushes the start and kills offsets. I wonder if he'll be back also. The Comet decks work. Are they making them any more? TK

Hey what's up with this! I pretty sure TK started this thread in "Off Topic" for a reason.

I personally would like to see Maurus Strobel and Luca Giammarco in both a TS and GS head to head heat. I saw Stroble race at the 2002 Morro Bay race. I felt that he had good technique and style. And Strobel beat Luca at Antibes in both the TS and GS last year. And Luca, well, those that saw him this year know that he will be a threat at any race. They both have a very distinctly European style to their slalom skateboarding.

History!

Post by Andy Bittner » Tue Feb 24, 2004 8:46 pm

Past... Skoldberg vs Hutson (La Costa '01) I was a little medicated, but I think I recall this match-up as the finals of the B Class.

Future... GBJ vs BoBo (for cash)

I'm accepting rental advertising space on my ass from slalom manufacturers. 'Cause that's all Brady will be seeing and he's their target audience.

"Mr. Maxwell? This is Gareth Roe of Roe Skateboards. We heard about your offer and we'd like to take you up on it. Unfortunately, TK and Dong have been sucking wind at the races lately so we're a little down on cash right now."

"What I'd like to find out is if you'd be interested in just doing a half ass ad campaign for Roe?"

Gilmour VS Walker

Post by John Gilmour » Sun Mar 07, 2004 3:21 am

I might have a shot at this race this season...mostly because Walker, my pet Turtle, doesn't know how to read a course yet.

I'm likely out this entire season. With 3 screws just 1/2 inch under the plateau of my tibia I couldn't see crashing so soon.

I finished surgery on my first leg and in 4 weeks I get surgery on the other...and in about 2 months after that- its rotator cuff surgery- at least 6 month rehab for that.

See you all next year- I waited a long time for this truly International season of skilled slalom on several continents- it kills me to be a spectator.

I think I might be able to do some filming though. I still would like to travel to the races.
One good turn deserves another
