My favourite travel companion used to be a Eurocana (Swedish skate shop) skatebag sized after the board, large enough to fit a board and a full set of protection and maybe a sweater or a few pieces of clothing.

When the bag wore out and the shop didn't exist anymore I really started missing it. It's true that nowadays the stuff needed for a slalomsession wouldn't fit in a single bag (it now takes a car), but I still think it would be neat if there was a good skatebag out there suitable for slalomequipment.

On a recent visit to St Petersburg, Russia I came across this bag used by one of the skaters.



Rula was a brand of boards made in the Sovietunion. I think they were made in Estonia, which is now an independent country (like their neighbours Latvia and Lithuania).

You can fit a LOT of skates (like 10) in the Independent duffel bag.

The Alva skate bag comes in 34" and 36" lengths, and is large enough to fit two completes, or one complete and all your gear.

The Pig wheels bag is in-between the two sizes.

And the Longskate.com longboard bag will fit 2 50" boards nicely.

Sounds like the Alva skate bag would be more what I was thinking of. I don't like enormous bags. The reason I like the old Eurocana bag was that it was rather small (compared to most bags today) and you could either carry it in one hand or on your back as there were two straps. One on each side of the zipper. It worked pretty well as a back pack.

I remember Per Welinder being a long time user of the same bag too.

I don't know how many skaters golf? Anyway, maybe one of these might be good for getting from parking lot to the hill. not to bad of a price.

I really like my SKB travel case. The hard shell is perfect for air travel. It also has locks and when flying, it`s just a simple matter of having it inspected and they can lock it back up.

I use soft foam padding inside for protection and can pack 6 decks, assorted trucks and wheels, or 2 completes, helmet and pads and assorted wheels, etc. The base and lid each have 2 interior straps for securing the boards inside. You`d think this case was made with skateboards in mind.

They also come in differant sizes but this 36.75" x 12" x 8" case is perfect for me.

Jani I think you might like this. Soft sided padded cases just large enough for a 36 inch board with a zippered compartment on some for tools and grommets. Cheap at around $33.00 And as an added bonus you can buy them for around $15 at the end of ski season/ start of skateboard slalom season.

I use 2 K2 bags of this type of design. The bags are too slim for park decks- just large enough to fit two slalom decks wheels to wheels if you want. They always fit on the plane overheads.

John, are you sure that those particular skiboard bags are big enough for even a slalom board?

I got this Snowjam/Zuma brand bag and it is not big enough for even one of my of my complete slalom boards.

It looks wide enough in the picture because the bag is empty and flatened out, but the interior dimensions are only like 5.5” tall and 4.25” wide. Only a deck by itself, with no trucks or anything, would be able to fit in it.

I know that the bags you use are big enough for two boards because I've seen/marveled at them. So what's up with them? Were they made for skiboards that are extra wide?

They were made for K2 skiboards. I've fit 3 decks in, but they barely zip now with the wider Roes- they do close though and hold my pads as well as a few sets of wheels

I’ve found the K2 bags on web searches - no more left though
I guess I’ll hope for a new batch to be made next season.

For the record though, all skiboard bags that I’ve found on the WWW, other than the K2 bag, are not wide/tall enough for a complete slalom skateboard. Sure is a bummer.

Maybe there is enough interest from the members of this site that we could get our own design of bag produced. I know of a few small companies in the US that will make any design of bag out of high-denier cordura, probably in small batches and maybe even individual bags. The price probably wouldn’t be more than $35-$40 USD for a simple bag the size of the K2 bag, with a pocket on the side for skate bits, and a zipper that opens the entire side up, allowing easy access for even a 36”x9” complete board. Basically, an unpadded, deeper, taller version of this:

We’re not talking about bags that fit everything needed for a skate session.

We want bags suitable for travel - Don’t want space for cones (although you could use one of these bags for about 40 cones plus a Trakmate system and chalk/tape).

A duffel bag can be used, but it flattens out and extends vertically when you carry it and is too awkward - It flops around too much, which makes it especially difficult to put in the overhead compartment on the plane. You can always put your boards in your suitcase, but what do you race on if your suitcase doesn’t make it to the same airport as you?

Try this, good padding room for a couple of complets 30in and lots of parts.

ok rich what do you use? you make it sound like you know of something better. i dont know of any skate co. other than the alva one at the top of the page that puts out a padded skate bag. so will you show all us what we should be using. that is what this topic is for. next time try not to be a dick. by the way my bag is a tennis bag.

Jeff, I mistook that bag of yours for a snowboard equipment bag. So that image is good enough for slalomers.

I was born a Dick, but choose to go by Richard. Anyway, what's wrong with the Alva bag? I just got the 36" for $39 including postage. It was a special offer for members of an actual skateboard forum but they should now be available here and there - from Alva, from Tail Tap, from Z Sports Distribution, etc.

wes my bag fits in the over head of plane. i think that makes it great for travel. i only paid $45.00 for mine at a local shop

It's surely and actual forum. Whether it's about actual skateboarding or not is sometimes hard to tell, ha! (fwiw, I don't know how the word "actual" got into that sentence.)

K Mart...20 bux. 36" long. Holds 3 boards and my tool box and has a shoulder strap. Found it in the luggage department with the rest of the duffle bags. Gawd im cheep!

i am a manufacturer of boardbags etc and could easily make a skate bag padded or otherwise.why not drop me your ideas and i will make up a sample and post some pics and costs

i am looking for a slalom bag (a rather small one) about a 33 inch long and 5 inch wide. 2 straps one on each side of the zipper. Padded. mabye a small pocket on the out side of it for tools. and the whole thing one color, like brown or white or black.

if you could make a sample of it and post a pic and cost that would be so awsome cuz thats like my bream bag.

Go to an Army Surplus store and get a camo laundry bag. Perfect for a TS or Hybrid setup. Of course this is just for protecting a nice foam core or carbon finish deck and does not have handles like the above. Basically just to keep the bottom from getting scratched up in transit or the non-skid on top from scratching your other(s). My friend Steve Collins had a couple the last time we skated together a couple of weeks ago. Said he got them for $5 each. In fact, if I had one of the above upper-end bags with the handles I'd still use one of these.

I can fit two boards on their sides in my 36" Alva bag...along with my helmet and pads, and a small toolkit along with bushings in the side pocket.......easily

But i tore the handle strap.....twice.....so if you pack it full, dont whip it around too much

Alrighty then, here we go, my skatebag preference:

Make it like that Alva bag (with the whole side panel opening up), but long/tall enough for a 37”x9” complete slalom board, and square ends (not half-circle). Make it wide enough for two complete slalom boards bottom-to-bottom (I’m guessing about 8” so that maybe a sweatshirt or something can fit too). Structured with foam to keep the general shape and to make it comfortable for someone carrying it with a shoulder strap. Mesh pocket on the outside for a helmet. Mesh pockets on the outside for pads & skate shoes. Small outside pocket for small tools. Triangular D-ring on each end near the top for a shoulder strap. Standard carrying-handle bag straps. Outside made out of non-descript green 1000-1500 denier cordura. Inside lining made out of bright yellow, at least 1500 cordura to protect it from the griptape of the boards. That should meet the general needs of just about all slalomers.

This is my old school skate bag, a Rollet (french skate producer in the 80's an 90's). I received this when i was 12 years old (now i'm 24), very few used and still a good look. Fit for a slalom board and 15 cones.

Just as a follow up, I have the Alva bag and recently it carried my little krooked zip zinger (7.5" wide or so with indy 129 and the abec11 "bertz" wheels) and my son's typical street skate setup and our pads (but helmets had to go into another bag) on a trip to Japan. They made us check it since it's a bit over the rules (though others have reported that they were allowed to use it as a carry on bag). I also took the Alva bag on my trip to Morro Bay and fit the zip zinger, my 9" wide afroman pool set up, and my pocket pistols slalom set up. Not much room left with three boards in there though, just wrist guards and spare wheels and such between the decks

I had no intention of doing this, but found a deal today I couldn't pass up. This is a MURANO ROLLER GOLF COVER with a matching sport duffle:



As you can see, it's long enough (48") to hold my 44" Gun and two slalom completes. Also, I threw in my Hillary folding chair, helmet, pads, gloves and tool bag:



Now, here's the good part. The list price on this combination is $149.95. I went into Dillard's Department Store today (I think they are regional in the Southeast and maybe the midwest?) There were four on the floor and marked down 75% (SEVENTY FIVE PERCENT!!!) to $35.95. I grabbed it. It's got some reinforcing wrap-around straps, an exterior zippered pouch and roller wheels on the bottom. When you pack it up, it's heavy but perfect for flying or rolling to and from a race site.

Oh, and unlike the hard golf cases some guys are using, I can fold this up and stuff it under the bed with the rest of my "luggage."

so you say it holds a folding chair also?
is that important for a bag to hold a folding chair?

I went to Sportauthority.com and ordered a hockey gear bag on closeout for 22 bucks. I went to Target and got four heavy duty canvas laundry bags with rope drawstrings for 7 bucks each. The canvas bags hold an individual board up to 36 inches long, the four fit into the hockey bag along with all of my pads, helmet and a folding chair too.

For the Farm I checked it and had no problems with the airline. It also carried all of my spare wheels, Khiro kit, wrenches, etc in a small bag. Oh and it held spare pair of tennies too and was only 1/2 full. It's a sweet deal that ran 50 bucks total.
