How often do you TRAIN?

Post by Adam Trahan » Sun Nov 30, 2003 1:40 am

Whoa, I don't train often and my results at races show...

I do however have aspirations of training a bit more than last year so that I can do a little better.

When AZGRS gets together, we set up a hybrid course and run if for a couple of hours. Sometimes it is a GS and once we set up a 100 cone @ 7' centers.

I definately need to ride more.

How often do you train and what work out makes up your training time?

I would hardly call it "training", but I did put some thought into my skating a few times last year.

The weeks leading up to Breckenridge, I doubled the amount of time I spent riding my local hill. Using the heavy 36" Bahne oak kick to work out my arms as I walked up hill. I still felt winded in Breck (shouldn't have been a surprise), but I was pleased with my performance.

The weeks leading up to my race in Georgia, I worked the ISSA straight parallel course constantly, acquired Radikal trucks and a Plankrr2. My tight skills are leaps and bounds ahead of where I was earlier this year.

St. Louis also had me thinking ahead, and again I was happy with my skating that weekend.

Other than that, most of my training consists of the edited variety.

I don't get to run a course as often as I would like, but I ride my board to school and practice pumping on the way.

Practicing flatland pumping on the local bikepath has helped me the most... I feel very comfortable on my board now. Also I think during training it is important to leave your comfort zone a little and figure out your limits then... better than blowing out or crashing during a race. Also I bring both my boards to train on now and ride both of them on any course I set.
