[2006] ISSA membership information

Post by Pat Chewning » Fri Jan 20, 2006 11:12 am

Thanks for the membership list.

Maybe you could post "Sticky" all of the membership info all in one place?

How much it costs.
How to pay.
Duration of membership.
How many votes you can buy.
Transfer or "proxy" of votes from one person to another.
Etc.

I sort of forgot that I obtained votes when I sponsored the site for 2 months, and now I have 2 votes! So now you'll hear twice as much from me :)

Hey...let me in...how do I get in? Where do I send the dough....do I have to prick my finger and share blood with 66?

Seriously, I am very supportive of the ISSA....so tell me what do I need to do to get on board?

By the way, the American Slalom Skateboarder Assoc. (ASSA ....don't you love it?) is NOT in competition with ISSA. It is a Group Purchasing Organization put together by Gary Fluitt and myself to create some clout with race insurance, timing system purchases, other products/services, etc. ......It is an association exclusively for RACE PROMOTERS and is not out to set up our own governance of slalom skateboarding.

Ok, so how does this hillbilly get in ISSA?

ISSA membership information

Here it is:
Pat Chewning wrote:How much it costs.
EUR 20 or USD 25.
Pat Chewning wrote:How to pay.
paypal to issa@slalomskateboarder DOT com
or email me for alternative methods.
Pat Chewning wrote:Duration of membership.
At the moment unlimited. A new board of directors will ultimately decide how to progress from where we are now.
Pat Chewning wrote:How many votes you can buy.
Max five per person.
Pat Chewning wrote:Transfer or "proxy" of votes from one person to another.
Personally I'm against it. Each person votes for himself, unless of course there is a meeting in a physical location, in which case we'll allow transfer or "proxy" of votes to someone who can attend.
Pat Chewning wrote:Other info.
ISSA members get one vote,
Site sponsors get membership included in the "package",
Old ISSA representatives got one vote each at the time we announced the new ISSA.
The original site investors (Jack, myself, Donald, Heiko and Gilmour) got three votes each for their USD 75 contribution to assure the site ownership.
Pat Chewning wrote:What for?
- We need to assure the continued existance of this forum.
- For certain decisions we need to be able to decide through some kind of democratic system.
- We need a body that we can refer to when organizing events. "This event is sanctioned by ISSA". Even if nothing else, at least it sounds good.
- We need guidelines to some aspects of race organization.
- We need guidelines to competition rules, so we know what to expect when going to a race.
- It would be cool if there was a joint effort to bring out another issue of Slalom! mag

How this is done remains to be discussed and decided. But at least we have a group of people who are allowed to vote on this topic. Together we'll take the next step.
Make sure nothing relies upon just one person. I've carried the ISSA hat for a while now, but have been unable to really step things up. I now invite you all to take over the hat.

The site sponsorship for 2006 has been settled (unless someone falls out, which doesn't seem likely at this stage). Any payments right now will go towards ISSA members only.

Thank's for your support!

Yes. Same as most organizations -- you need to pay to be a member and you need to be a member to vote.

ISSA has been a great deal, though. I paid in 2004 and 2005 and am allowed 2 votes. That is a great deal compared to most organizations where you get 1 vote and pay every year.

Once you have paid you should be added to the group ISSA Members. You will be informed by email and that will open add the forum ISSA Members only in the associations group for you.

If you don't, it probably means I forgot to add you to the group. Remind me!

I´m ok with pay to be member, member to vote. In most Democracis I believe one man one vote, but I could be wrong…

I think it is more like a publically held company. Voting rights are on a per share basis. The more "shares" of stock you have the more votes you get. From what I can tell, those who have more votes have sponsored the website more times. Just an observation.

I think there will be for sure a change of the voting when a body get running.

There is no democracy where you have more than one vote per person.

As the current president of ISSA I devised a system that I thought would suit our situation. My intention was to give a stronger vote to those who invested money to put this site into community hands. However I didn't want this group of people to always have veto rights or too much power in case the organization took off. Thus I invented a system in which you purchase votes.

We used to have equal country votes in the early days of ISSA (and sometimes one vote per coordinator, some countries having one, some three). That probably wasn't fair at the time, but it worked. I wouldn't imagine re-introducing something like that today. I don't think that countries or regions have the same value as before, also people in one country aren't likely to all have the same idea on a topic (which used to be the case when boarders where harder to cross and we communicated less).

The current voting system will remain in place for the first decision(s) until a new ISSA board has been elected, or until the current members vote to do something else.

I will not use any other power than words (just like anyone) and my current 4 votes to suggest or impose something. It's time for me to withdraw from the head of this organization (to allow it to move forward) as soon as we have elected new members of board to represent the ISSA.

Where do we start?

This is a good description of where we stand right now. To me it was fair that those who cared enough about this place to invest their own money to keep it going, would have a saying in the sites future.

I put the ISSA logo on the site, and made the site synonymous with the ISSA, thinking that this was the best way we could move forward with an international cooperation.

We're on the right way and it's good!
