Kim and went throught the same thing....at race we organized she went off the road on her luge and broke her hand up pretty bad. Later we received the same type of letter and we answered it stating that she fell riding her skateboard ( a luge is really big skateboard right???) and there was nobody to go after to recover their funds.

Funny how insurance companies charge for an insurance policy and then feel they should be reimbursed when they have to pay out on the policy they have been charging for.

Chewning - I get those letters all the time from a third party medical insurance contractor that works for my insurance company (I have a family of five, but I'm mostly the cause for the letters). I understand that your response to them is not mandatory. In fact it may even be an invasion of your privacy. Anyway, I ignore the letter every time.

Well, I've survived pretty much unscathed since I started skating again eight years ago. A broken finger and a few scratches are about it.

So, what did I do last night?

Planted my wet foot on dry linoleum. I went down not too hard but twisted the knee. Nothing ripped or broken but this morning instead of baseball size it's softball sized. I can walk on it but every once in a while I'll take a step, twist it just the tiniest amount and it feels like I've been tasered.

Well, at least it's not like I needed to move furniture today into a new house.

Oh, wait . . . . . . dammit.

If you haven't already, be sure to treat yourself to some RICE: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. And if that doesn't work, get thee to a doctor. Hope it mends fast, though.

No need for a doctor. The swelling is down and it only hurts when I move it like that so I don't move it like that.

The frustrating part is it stiffens up every time I stop for longer than two minutes. Then when I get ready to move and walk the loosening up starts all over again. After about five minutes there's just a slight twinge.

It's a sprain. No fluid, ACLs, MCLs or patellas involved. I just tried to make it do something it ain't supposed to do.

Of course, as you can obviously see the other side affect is crashing really early and wide away at 5:00 AM. I don't know if that's a bad thing or not. It just seems nothing is more exhausting than favoring a sprain. Whether the ankle, back, knee or hip, just all that limping and waddling around trying to move while not exacerbating the situation is just draining. I was sound asleep last night at 10:30.

(My posts says I did this at 4:38. That ain't right. Off by an hour. Hmmmmmm . . . . )

My worst injury to date was the knee, demonstrating some silly thing to the kiddies on the bunny slope. Pumped weird, stepped off the board then stepped on it as it rolled under me doing a low speed split/knee twist that had me hobbling and barely able to walk the next day. Same thing, it wasn't bad 'til it rested a while, then could barely move it again.

Strange how the accidents happen - sorry to hear about yours.

For the record, this year I eschewed the November trip to the ice track in order to take the mountain bike to Jordan for a final summer fling. The tarmac out there is great. Wish I'd taken a longboard to tackle the descent of Mount Nebo:

And yes, I did ride a camel, float in the Dead Sea, sleep in the desert and spend a long time in Customs because I'd forgotten that I had a bullet casing in my luggage. Doh. Blimmin' X-rays! Lucky I didn't take the Pocket Pistol to the Middle East.

Well I am still going downhill fast.
Covering more distance and doing more turns in a day than a whole summer of racing slalom.

For anyone interested at this point, who may not be aware of it - there is a revamped ISSA BOD voting thread here:

Ballot requires your name, which is much better than the first ballot that was sent out with potential for abuse of the process.

I'm guessing this means the idea that ALL current nominees will make up the board, but if someone else knows otherwise, speak up.

What I think needs clarifying is whether those that have voted BEFORE it was necessary to leave your name need to vote again?

Probably it retains the IP address of the voter (possibly in combination with something else) to identify if you have already voted or not. Probably not a fool proof system, but could have been enough fair, if instructions had been clear enough. I voted from another PC (in another country) so I got away with voting twice, once in the old poll, and once in the new. So if there's only one poll (also technically speaking) it means I voted twice.

The only option? Dump all the prior votes, send an e-mail to all ISSA members & start this chocolate mess all over again. One vote per person.
My friends 7 year old daughter had the same idea. Brilliant.

What I want to know is where are all members that are so vocal at races? These people would rather complain behind everyone's back than help make a decision on something as important as the future of ISSA. We hear things like, I am grateful to everyone who work so hard & I'll do anything I can to better the future of slalom............. your opinion is needed, Make yourself heard.

Or....... could it be that everyone has given up & stopped logging on to this website? It's possible.

Hey Skaters,
First I want to thank you all for your passion here on the forum for this 2011 board election.

Secondly, I want to apologize for screwing it up. It was my not-so-bright idea to use SurveyMonkey and I didn't realize I was making a mess of it.

We are capturing IP addresses, and restricting votes to one per computer, but as it was pointed out that doesn't restrict one from using multiple computers to cast multiple votes.

I've added a requirement that you give your name with your vote (yes this negates confidentiality, but only I will see who you voted for, and I will take that to my grave).

So now I need everyone who voted BEFORE I required your name to vote again, if you haven't already. You can do that here; <a href="http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ISSA_BOD">2011 ISSA Board election</a>

As Cat pointed out, the one-vote-per-computer thing restricted her from recasting her vote, so I've turned that off now. If you voted before we required names, you'll need to do that again.

Given this hiccup, I will keep the vote open until Friday at Midnight Eastern US time.

Also you will notice that Dan Gesmer's name has dropped off the list of nominees as he has recused himself from the election. If you have already cast a vote for Dan, and you would like to recast your vote, you can enter another vote. I will confirm it with you once the voting closes. If you leave your vote as is, your other four selections for the board will be counted and your vote for dan will simply be ignored.

The idea of scrapping the election and giving board posts to the nominees was discussed and declined, so we're going forward with the vote and I'll announce the results next weekend.

Congratulations to those who have been elected, and thank your for those who accepted nominations.

In the coming weeks there will be some hand-offs from the outgoing board, but speaking for myself, I know the outgoing board will remain involved and available to the new board throughout the winter and coming season.

To all the racers that have come to Ottawa to compete in the canaday races since 2004 you will remember our lovely ladies that ran the BBQ for us. For those that came last year you may remember a last minute canelation of the BBq for the 2010 event.

It saddens me to inform you that Karen (the ladie in her 40's or so) was diagnosed with cancer and that is why she had pulled out last minute. News travelled through the dovercourt recreation center today shortly after noon that karen has passed away.

Please take a few minutes to say a prayer for Kelsey (Karens' daughter who also worked the BBQ) for us over the years.
