Front Truck development pictures

After testing the rear with success a little bit more work has been happening to the front truck. We've added a spherical bearing to the hanger, and worked on a 60 degree baseplate. One reason was to replicate the excellent handling characteristics that integrated risers are showing with the rear. The base plate is 5mm or so taller than the 45 degree baseplate under the pivot cup and kingpin, as although we could go lower I wanted to have it at a height that would minimise riser need. I personally like a small amount of 'shockpad' as you see in the pictures. If you add a wedge and a bit of riser to the 45 degree baseplate you would end up at a very similar hanger position.

Mike,

Am I correct in saying the Virage has no pivot bearings?

Wesley, you are 100% correct. The pivot is spherical, machined and polished, into a standard Khiro hard, small pivot cup, slightly greased. The pivot also is spherised past the centre, to allow for free movement in every axis.

I chose to go with pivots for 'feel'.

Have to say, the 60 degree baseplate is working like a dream. The combination of steep angle and the extra stiffness an integrated riser design giving direct transference of power through the bolts is making for a very speedy truck.

And for all of those interested in how the Virage trucks 60 degree baseplate works, well just think fast and tight. It's a slippery little number!

Spent a little time (it started to rain) with e Alec and Wafflesole Nat at Dorney lake, hoping to try the Virages on a bit of long distance...rain stopped play, but we did manage a short scoot. Have to say the Subsonic Pulse is a beaut.....steps away from the 'order now' button.... more details on longer distance skating at http://www.skatefurther.com
