I am glad to inform that the Federacao Brasileira de Skate (brazilian skateboarding federation) has joined us.

This means that we are now a South American Slalom Contest for the Minestry of Sports in Brazil. This also means we are entitle to a financial help that will allow the three best slalom skaters to receive a financial help of the equivalent of 500 euros per month for a period of one year.

We are all very excited about this contest.
Porto Alegre is the leading center when it comes to slalom skateboarding in Brazil.

I know I am suspect to say this but we all know that Brazilian skaters are indeed a force to be recognized in the Vert and Street scene, in the Vert Sandro Dias has been the world champion for the last 5 years and I do not need to talk about a skater call Bob Burnquist, many many time a gold medalist in the X-Games and Megaramp master. Just give the skaters in Brazzil some time to practice and we will see what will happen. I know motivation is running HIGH!

Oh yes and before I forget..

Brazil will apply to host the Worlds in 2010.

The first three best placed brazilian riders on this event will receive from the Brazilian government a purse of the equivalent to 500 euros per month for a period of one year.

This has just been confirmed.

The rider must be older than 14 years old and bear a Brazilian passport.

This is a major step to develop slalom skateboarding in Brazil. I dare to say this is unique in the slalom skateboarding world but may be I am mistaken I don't know.

I would like to say THANK YOU very much to my friend Edson Scander from the Brazilian Skateboarding Federation for making this possible and for making our competition a South American santioned event for the FBSk.

You would be certainly very welcome Antonio.

We had a radio interview yesterday evening.
This week the radio will start with 100 calls, during the week to promote the contest.

We will also have girls competing.
Christie Aleixo will take part on the event. Christie has been featured on Concrete Wave magazine and she is a driving force in girls skating in Brasil

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlOAbMXr ... re=related

When I started this whole thing about a month ago I never though it would become such a event so fast.

I am now really looking forward to next week-end's competition and to my one month vacation in Brasil!!!

Yes!!!!!!!!!! :-)

What are you planning now? Putting on a wig AND getting a Canadian passport? It is amazing to see what people will do for money!! :-)

No Ramon, this money comes from the government, this is money that they give to sports associations to help develop a certain sport in the country. This is something to help the brazilian athlete.

What we have seen happening in Brasil now is that skateboarding has become the third most popular sport in the country, only behind soccer and formula 1.

We kind of lucked out on this, we came in at the right time. So it is now a question of promoting slalom skateboarding. The scene is big in street and vert. Downhill, as you probably know is coming up as well. Dalua gets money to skate and a few other riders too.

The girl situation in this contest is pretty funny, because there are only three girls competing, all of them brazilian, so it is a SURE thing all of them will be entitled to the money.

Finally someone takes this seriously! If only more goverments will understand the potencial of this sport we could have a blast all over the globe.
A big hand for Brazil!!!

I'm bringing a real girl and she's not gonna take 4th.

From cold, wet North America:

Y'all have fun this weekend. Sounds like it's going to be a blast.

And don't forget: Dominik likes to slalom mostly naked. But, I guess in Brazil that sort of thing is expected, yes?

Wes,

I think the home team may have an advantage with the conditions, i.e. the sun is pretty high and intense down there south of the half court line...

Mr. Kolwalski might keep his tan in tune under a disco ball and I think Fadell might be genetically pardoned, but Konigshausen sounds pretty "sunburnable" :-)

Good luck to all and have fun!!!

I finally got to a PC here on the beach where I am right now.
We had a great contest, lots of fun. 27 men and 4 women. The time system let us down a few times but we were able to solve all the problems within a resonable period of time. We had all events. Brazilian riders share the 108 thousand reais (36,000 euros) prize purse and Dominik and Greg share the registration fees (minus expenses).

Donimik and Greg both said they wanted to stay out of the competition to allow the Brazilian riders to take the first three places. So they just gave demos. Had they competed they would have won. What these two guys did was NOBLE. All the Brazilian riders respect them very much.

To who do I need to email the reuslts in the ISSA?

Now be aware of IBERIA AIRLINES; THEY SUCK BIG TIME!!

They lost all my luggage. I still don´t have my skateboards!!! I am competing with equipement I borrow from other riders!! Very bad.

All they say is that they are doing their best to find my lugage. I will go to Sao Paulo without my boards and my equipment. F*&¨%$%UCK!

I will leave for Sao PAulo tomorrow. Dominik and Greg will be on the same van.

For me it is back to the waves now. Yes there is a nice 6 foot swell breaking to the left today at Praia Brava.

Frank don´t worry about your trucks (yes they are in the missing bags), I am insured.

Congratulations to Kako, Iuri and Marcio, and to Akemi, Christie and Bruna, but I bet Thiago is bummed! He just barely missed the top three!

And was the prize purse really 36,000 Euros?!!!! WOW!!!
