SPSR- 8. SAFETY GEAR

Post by Jadranko Radovanovic » Wed Nov 08, 2006 9:53 pm

8. SAFETY GEAR

8.1 Helmet, Elbow pads, knee pads MUST be worn. A skater is not allowed to start if he does not have sufficient safety gear. Wristguards or gloves are recommended.

I would suggest revising the rule to read: "A helmet must be worn."

If more safety gear absolutely has to be required, then it might start with hand coverage. My feeling is that all safety gear besides the helmet should be optional.

Make helmets mandatory, the rest optional.

yeah, helmets only. If someone was to get hurt, at least they could take themselves to the hosptial, you know, becasue they still have brains.

Here's the way I see it:

Helmets YES. Always.

The rest is up to the race promoter. I think everyone will agree the DHB's rule of FULL PADS and hand protection at Hobby Park was required. Probably the same sort of requirement at Pump Station would be in order. Also, sometimes such things are determined by the insurance rider.

safety gear

I also think there should be some responsibility towards the age and level of the racer.

We would be totally irresponsible in not enforcing pads for beginners and people under say 18 or so.

I'm not interested in destroying or damaging the youth that choose to enjoy our sport like the industry of skateboarding has done in the past.

"General" rules should not be repeated

Post by Pat Chewning » Fri Nov 10, 2006 4:36 am

This rule should be under the "GRxxSafety Gear rule"

Each event should not have it's own safety gear rule.

In fact, many of these rules should be trimmed down in the following manner:

A) Rules about administration, reporting results, accomodation, etc. -- these should be separated out of the RACING rules. They apply to the event organizer and not to the racers.

B) General rules section should be at the beginning of the document and should apply to ALL disciplines without repetition.

C) Dicipline-specific rules should be very short and ONLY outline the specific items that apply to that dicipline (e.g. cone spacing, hill pitch, cones in a straight line or not, etc)

Jadranko posted these polls on Wednesday.

It is now Friday.

13 people have voted.

Let's try and avoid any exit polls this early in the process.
