Slalom Demo/Race Ft. Wayne IN area August 14, 2010

I'll be hosting a smallish slalom event in Leo, Indiana on August 14, 2010. The current plan is to have a slalom demo in the morning to teach new people with a race in the afternoon (beginners and open classes). This is being held in conjunction with a farmer's market that will be happening every weekend this summer at the church were the event is happening.

Who's up for it?

NUTS! August is out for me. Inventory time at the warehouse...and band season on top of that. Busy time. I wish you the best of luck with your race. I'll pass the word as often as I can as the opportunity arises.

If I don't need shots and a visa to go to Leo Indiana then I'll go. You had better send me that clear Radikal bushing first...

Talked to Tod Oles and Chris Favero at Slalom St. Louis, and it sounded like both of them were hoping to make it out... Lavin, maybe you can hop in the car with them!

There's not a huge place to race but we should be able to get some decent TS/HS in anyway.

Sounds like fun! Jay and I will be there. Hopefully we can get some of the other michiganders too.

Only 13 days out and still no signup? I assume this was canceled then.

whoa settle down willy. I don't have internet access at home any more and stuff slips by!

There will be a signup coming in the next few days - I just emailed NCDSA about it. This is going to be a low key event but still a lot of fun. It's mostly flat but we should be able to pull off a single-lane HS and probably dual TS race. The entry fee will be low - only $5 - and the main purpose of the event will be to show the public what slalom racing is all about.

There will no longer be a formal 'demo' portion of the day, partly because the corresponding event ("Convivium" - basically a farmer's market) only runs from 9-1. However, all racers are encouraged to interact with the general public and spread interest in Slalom. As long as the weather cooperates we will plan to do the TS from 10-11:30 and the HS as soon as it gets set up. TS will be push start, HS will be ramp or push start. Hopefully everybody will have time to get at least a couple runs in.

Think of this as a glorified practice session with prizes. I hope everybody can make it out and we'll all have a grand time!

::edit::
the entry fee is to help cover the cost of getting the timing system in and to put toward prizes

Will be in Hockley, TX for a small Texas Outlaws race that Sat, but wish you the best of luck Peter, and a big turnout, I hope!

Oops! I never posted the results! Here they are.

We ended up having four people and racing both HS and TS, both single lane with a ramp start. We each got several runs in on both courses before it started to sprinkle a bit of rain, then kept skating until it turned into a downpour! :D

In both events, the standings were the same:
1) Derek Yerke (winner of "slalami" skateboard)
2) David Harris (winner of "peppermobile" skateboard)
3) Chad Hegerty (winner of "rusty bearing" award)
4) Peter Metzger (winner of nothing but a good time!)
