California Slalom Series #4 Results
(California Championship Series date 6)
West LA College, California
November 2, 2003

The fourth slalom of the 2003 California Championship series
(and sixth date of the race series) at West LA College
featured an tight slalom set by Richy and a fast slalom with some
tough turns to challenge everyone's grip, plus a jump in the fast
part of the course. The weather was cool and clear and attendance
was light.

This time it was the skateboard fast slalom that was closest, with
the top 7 finishing in the same second. Many thanks go
out to the volunteers who made the race run smoothly!

Interesting results. Especially compared to the previous WLA races.

Scott, you always have the fastest time on GS on skates. What about tight? How your inline time compares to fastest skateboard time?

On GS, longboard and SuperG courses my own time on inline skates is .5-1 sec faster then on a skateboard. Does it make me a fast inline skater or a slow skateboarder? A fruitbooter or a frootboarder? :)

Maybe we’ll race one day.

THAT HILL - - - @ WLAC !

Post by Rene Carrasco » Tue Nov 04, 2003 12:34 am

Vlad -
....Scott Peer has the FASTEST record on THAT HILL @ WLAC !
Thats counting inline & skateboard racers .
Richy is the closest to Scott's fastest time ON THAT HILL !

The reason I puncuate it as "THAT HILL" - is that IT IS GNARLY -
and there's quite a few racers that would agree.

It's got a wild appearance -
When you approach THAT HILL - it curves up and to the right - like it's going into the sky - and then dissapears ! ........you can't see the top - from the bottom !
...And when you take off from the top - you cannot see past the middle -
as it curves to the left - and then you see the riders dissapear ! Wild !

The surface is - to say the least - is CHALLENGING ! - Rough, blacktop bulges, reflectors, roadwork repair, gashes, cracks, whew !
My brother the "Brown Bomber" has been timed @ 26 or 27 mph there...
by a lady holding a police radar gun !

At yesterdays WLAC race, my brothers and I were filmed and interviewed by the host of Telemundo Television's Extreme Sports Show.
....that was kinda cool ....

Vlad - come out and race at WLAC Nov. 23rd - it's always a blast !

Take Care, bro. -

Cannonball Express

Post by Chris Barker » Sun Nov 09, 2003 3:40 am

Hey Cannonball,

Whenever I think of WLAC GS hill, I have a flashback of when I finished my run and looked up and saw you tucking the bottom. You looked like a huge beachball on wheels. I wish I had a real picture of the image of you that's stuck in my brain.

I am coming back for more in 2 weeks. This time I know where the secret cone is that hides the big reflector, not a good one to criddle unless you want to superman on that hamburger hill.

You need a new XXXL Short Shirt

Post by Chris Barker » Sun Nov 09, 2003 10:24 pm

Rene, you know the (big) ribbing is all in fun. I can't wait till I stay en la casa de Richie & Maria. Do you live nearby? I figure if I see 3-4 brothers and sisters a day, I might get to meet the whole family.

I've put on 10lbs since Worlds, but I'm not sure my tuck will compete with yours on GS hill. Until our COSS#4 race yesterday, I only skated slalom once and parks twice. I've got to get back out cross-training, my legs and wind are suffering.

My JPL/WLAC goal is to be within .75 secs of Richie and faster than the rest of the Flying Burrito Brothers.

Now seriously, you need a new shirt that has all those sponsors (Longskate.com - SK8KINGS.COM - Abec 11 Wheels - Tracker Trucks - Vans - Dale Smith Racing - Stifle Clothing - MoNsTeR EneRgY DriNK) on it.

I didn't know you were an actor also. Where are you in the movie?

cb

P.S. I think we should have a separate side-bet pool for B-class instead of donating to the Richie/Chicken/Attila fundraiser. Or at least a pitcher bet with you Carrascos...

Hey Vlad, I can't even finish the course on a skateboard! But in general I think inline is slightly faster for a top racer on GS, and the faster the course the bigger the difference. For a really tight course like JPL, it seems like skateboard is faster. And for tight slalom, skateboard is definitely faster, Richy and Chicken and Attila and the whole bunch of guys are ripping!
