Hey everybody-

I just wanted to know more about the race at wlac on the 24th. I am flying out from Connecticut to race that morning so I'm gonna need some basic info. How big is the hill? What kind of wheels should I pack? what kind of course do you guys usually run?

I'm really looking forward to coming out and slaloming with you guys. I'm leaving school early to do this and the deans gave me permission to do so so wlac will be a great opportunity. Also, are there prizes at these races? If so I will bring some Deerfield t-shirts.

See you there,

Henry

Henry,
I'm not an expert on WLAC, only been there once. But I recommend getting there before they set the cones. That way you could hang and learn how they set the course, you'll get a course setting lesson . I think Attila is the one who usually does that or Richy.

But I think these guys are into fast slalom, and the hills have some steepness to them, with not to smooth surface.

But the whole group is super friendly and helpful. Introduce you self right away to Rene and Richy Carrasco, Attila, and expect to get a ton of support and encouragement. They are so friendly and more sportsman like than you'll find in any sport.

Hopefully one of these guys will answer your questions here. If not, email Rene, Richy, or Attila direct for wheels and board setup. I think Rene has his email in the member list.

You'll have a blast,
Glenn

Henry,

That is cool- your interest and effort to get to a WLAC race!

These races are always FUN-
especially if Ed Economy shows up- and most everyone I've talked to, afterwards, come away with more undestanding and improvement
in their slalom abilities!
.
What is really cool- is , you can see what equipment, and gear, works- - and what doesn't, OR- if it's not YOUR cup of tea-.

Even down to what shoe you like to race in-
makes a difference!!!
The first time since 1976- - - the ONLY TIME I didn't wear my Vans tennis shoes in a major competition, you should see what happened to brand X ! {foot braking!} - when I wore them at the Morro Bay World Skateboard Championship! ! !

I've scanned in a photo of what happened to make my point on this post.

Email me directly [my adress is on the members list-] and I can go into detail, or we can discuss back and forth things I hope I can help you with.

God bless bro. -Rene' TEAM CARRASCO BROTHERS.

kinda off topic a little but right on Rene, at Avila i had to send Kim to the truck to fetch my old Vans i wore at La Costa! the new shoes i wore looked just like yours from foot braking at Avila after about 4 runs! my old vans are still together. I got a deal on some Osirus from the MB surf shop and they seem to be holding up ok too. support the companies that support us!

......I was just at the Vans headquarters today, talking to Kristy Van Doren..........
she seemed pretty impressed about the slalom scene - I was explaining about the races- like WLAC and FCR's-
-how it's getting more coverage, especially on the internet,
websites like slalomskateboarder.com , ncdsa.com , and, that it's popularity seems to be spreading across the U.S. !

...getting back to WLAC, it sounds like there's gonna be a healthy turnout- at this upcoming race! - Nov. 24 ! Cool!

....I'll see you out there @ WLAC next week!

Thanks for all the info fellas! I'll probably see most of you at 9am at WLAC on the 24th, if Megan (my friend whom I'm staying with) can get up in time. I'm sure it won't be a problem.

The fastest time of the day will get a cool Deerfield T shirt. I will also try to bring Krispy Kremes if I can.

See you in a week!

Henry

I really had an awesome time at WLAC today! I can't even begin to put into words what today's race was like for me. I'm pretty tired so I'll post later after my flight back to connecticut.

Side note- as I was packing up my board I noticed that the whole day I was running my 80a Avalons on the right side of my board and the 85a's on the left... I guess I messed things up when I switched them around as Richy suggested... Doh!
