WHO IS ROOKIE OF THE YEAR 2006, NOW REALLY

as much as i hate to point at this,it has to be done.
i received a complaint today that the rankings of last season are not adequate.
the reason for this complaint is,that there are races not listed, which play an important part
in summarizing the points for the roty awards or whatever you call it.
i was told that the dixie and the great western II are missing in the calculation.
this has been forwarded to corky already a few weeks ago and they can't be in an exact calculation of points to be given for anybody who is now in the slots for the roty.
please tell me i am so wrong corky,or otherwise correct the list!
thx don

Dixie results are posted; Western #2 are not

I did a check on slalomranking.com to see which 2006 events have the results in.

Navigate to: RANKINGS/EVENTS/2006

There are hyperlinks labeled "RESULTS" on the right side of the page, none of those hyperlinks work. However, for most races, the hyperlink on the left side of the page (race title) do show the events, broken down by racer group and discipline.

There are 6 events without even the hyperlink on the right ( "RESULTS" ).

For 2 of those 6, results are available by clicking the left (" Race title") hyperlink:
Dixie Cup
Great Western Race #1

For 4 of those 6, results are not available on either hyperlink (and presumably not available to calculate total for a racer) :
Swiss Race Series 2,3,4
Great Western Race #2

I do not know why... (Race not held? Results not sent in? Results not input into computer? -- who knows..)

Anyway, that's what I saw in a few minutes of checking it out.

This is my view on this matter, Corky will certainly add his:

It's impossible for Corky to run around and chase results. I would think that he normally looks for them here or on NCDSA in the contest calendar. If you have posted the results here, make sure it's in a topic where they are easy to find. And do make sure you post the complete results. After having posted the results for an event, also make sure you inform Corky of where they are. Then, always check the SlalomRanking site (after a month or two) to make sure the results are in, if not resend them.

...if it still doesn't work. It's Corky's fault.

Don I assume you've done most of the above, but even so, just do it again. Corky has no interest in leaving results out of the listing.

It's about time we declare the official winners for and distribute the prizes for Rookie of the Year 2006. I thought I was late, but if there is still some doubt, let's make sure the math is correct before distributing prizes.

How about a separate thread for the sole purpose of forwarding race results to whoever is in charge...

Changes you say? Unaccounted points? Well, whatever happens, it was nice while it lasted I guess. :D

Who is the Rookie...I checked Slalomranking today and I saw that Chris Barett is the Rookie nice but he skated in 2005 3 Races so why he is the Rookie???
Dominik skated 1 Race in 2004 and because of this he felt out of the Rookie Ranking 2006????

Nothing against you Chris but this is not possible.

And where are the points for the Great Western race 2. It is listed in the calender, you guys got the results but there are no points????????????

Frank Beste was really good at the Western race and these are really importand points for him when we look at the Rookie Ranking. Maybe he is the Rookie???

The current Rookie awards are not true that´s a fact. I think it is only a little mistake what can be changed easily.

Kind regards

Heiko

Status:
I spoke with Corky yesterday and he said he's waiting until the end of January (today!) to see if there are more objections to the current standings, then he'll update all rankings for 2006 and post them.

Previous race participation:
There are rules specific to the Rookie ranking as to which events count and do not count for previous race experience:

Pro – Rookie of the year: As best placement in the "World Ranking Men, Pro" after first season racing as Pro in a Main Status competition.

Am – Rookie of the year: As best placement in the "World Ranking Men, Am" after first season racing in a Main status competition.

(extracted from Rules at www.SlalomRanking.com)

Great Western 2:
Donald replied the other day that Corky had responded, so those will probably be in the next update.

In a couple of days, we'll probably have the final update and we can congratulate the winner and I can open up my wallet and distribute some cash and other prizes.

You guys make me laugh. Maybe you should pay more attention to your skating and less to some numbers.

Corky is ill I heard yesterday, but of course the ranking is more important than anything else, so let's hunt him anyway.

BTW Donald, what happened to the homepage updates you promised for this site?
It's been months now, or is it a year? We're waiting. Just like you I hate going public with stuff like this, but it has to be done.

jani,it's not about corky and it's not about the points,i really don't care so much about the points, even the people complaining don't think that their life depends on it,really.
on the other side awards are spoken out and riders are declared roty without having an exact database/recordings to justify that.
it's easy as it is.
i have no beef against corky at all,if you think that is the case then you are dead wrong,ok?

regarding your second statement about me not living up to my promises i have the following-you will of course interprete this as an excuse or a flat out lie-to say.
i approached you last summer about beefing up the superboring front page,to make it more interesting and so on.i had in fact a special homepage in my vision which is:www.concretedisciples.com.everybody go there and check it out.

i also volunteered for that job, which is right.
since i'm not a programmer you suggested someone else to do it.you also spoke out the thought that this might be way too difficult for me anyway, which is ok if you think so,i took your advise on that.
jbh was in the talks, but got lost somewhere on the road for whatever reason that is.
i think there is even a thread here documenting that conversation.
i am still here, willing to bring new articles and stuff to the front homepage, but there still is the need for a guy who can implement this to the front page.

since you and a few others want to maintain control of the content featured on the first page i will be the last in line at the moment, dependant on what you deem suitable as content.

in the end it was me who cared about the front page and it was me who contacted you about this.and the last few sentences are the summary of our conversation.

so please let's bring this to the public,i don't need to be afraid of that anyway, but since you try the"you promised and you didn't do it"game i'm all game too.

Donald,

I'm just having fun! (by reusing the terms you employ yourself)

You are always criticising everything and everyone. Sometimes that's needed, but you also know that pulling everything off and getting it all together requires real work. People (Corky, event organizers, ISSA BOD and whoever is on your list of people to critisize often) spend a lot of time and actually do get things done, but not always as fast as you (or I) would like, but this is not anybody's full time job. This is stuff those guys (and me too - although I'm reducing my prescence) do for their love of the sport and in their scarce free time. They have other responsibilities, such as day time jobs, families and more. The end result is that these people (include me) sometimes don't even skate anymore. And everytime they (and myself) logon we find another topic from Donald (or close friends) whining.

Chill down a little now and please be a bit more constructive.

The reason is I'm an idiot. To borrow a phrase from Our Fearless Leader (GWB), I completely "misunderestimated" the amount of time I had and the amount of work involved, and "misoverestimated" my computer skills to do the job.

I even wrote to Donald a couple of months ago saying "I haven't forgotten," thinking I could make the time to do it and learn the necessary skills. I was wrong. My apologies both to Donald and to Maria Carrasco, who provided the articles and photos on the Encinitas Open and the US Nationals that were to be posted on the front page. Any blame for the updates not happening rests squarely on me.

Jani, I'm glad to know you were just humorously poking back at Donald, but I feel guilty about the part I've played (or failed to play) in this whole thing.

Having said that, I agree with both of you (and others who have posted) that having a more attractive and exciting home page for this site would be a very desirable thing. And I think that perhaps I still have something to offer, but in a more limited way. I would like to offer my services as a copy editor to ensure that whatever DOES get posted is spelled correctly and makes sense. THAT I can do even if my schedule gets busy.

Beyond that, I am still interested in helping to update the site, but I would need a lot more help and/or training before I could do anything in a meaningful way. I don't know how realistic that is (probably not very) for anyone else, so for now I will just offer my apologies for not doing what I said I'd do, and repeat my offer to copy-edit any new material.

ConeRacing, this years Rookie sponsor would like to congratulate the following skaters for their extraordinary performances in their first year of racing at their respective level:

Pro Rookie of the Year 2006: Greg Fadell, USA

Am Rookie of the Year 2006: Chris Barrett, CAN

Women's Rookie of the Year 2006: Trisha Erickson, USA

Junior Boys Rookie of the Year 2006: Viktor Hadestrand, SWE

Junior Girls Rookie of the Year 2006: Ella Roggero, GBR

Congratulations to all of you! Please contact me if I haven't already managed to contact you for arranging deliveries of your skate goods. The pro money (USD 200) is already on it's way to Greg for his Pro class victory.

I would also like to congratulate and thank all the other rookie skaters of 2006. It was an amazing year and an fascinating struggle to follow during the year. Most of the season it looked like two coneRacing sponsored riders: Vincent Berruchon, FRA (with a very solid and strong first year as Pro) and Adel Ahmed FRA/SWE (winning the European Championships GS, in his first year ever competing in slalom) would take top honors in the PRO and AM categories, but in the end they were outperformed by Greg and Chris, who moved up to the top slots after the season was over in Europe.
